- Ehud Olmert, former Prime Minister of Israel from 2006-2009, joins Lewis Goodall to discuss Trump’s Gaza plan, which has been rejected by both Western allies and Arab states.
Olmert tells Goodall that he doesn’t take Trump’s plan seriously.
He also talks about Israel’s future, stating that a two-state solution is 'the only way to peace' and expresses hope that the Israeli people will soon 'get rid of Netanyahu.'
The proposal, presented at a White House news conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggested that the US could take "long-term" ownership of the territory, with Palestinians being permanently resettled elsewhere.
The US President detailed a plan to build new settlements for Palestinians outside the Gaza Strip, and for the US to take "ownership" in redeveloping the war-torn territory into "the Riviera of the Middle East".
The proposal has triggered a wave of reactions, as a variety of senior UK politicians have voiced their opposition.
