Billy a great idea. Watching this and other quilting u tubes all we see is perfection. Which makes it harder for us to view our projects. I’m not perfect I make mistakes however I love quilting and this with “the box” would let us all know, we are only people none is perfect!! Thank you all

For the long-arm quilter who wants a change: One of the most needed services is helping those of us who want to quilt our own quilts. I don’t know of anyone who does that in person. That could mean holding classes on how to choose quilt designs or designing your own quilting designs. Just a thought.
Thanks so much for another great podcast A Quilting Life Team! I really look forward to your podcasts and am a little sad on the Mondays that you don't air one. Chelsi, seeing your early quilts would do so much for new quilters that have similar insecurities about our work. I realize that quilting is a journey, and I am enjoying the process, but to see someone like you and be able to view your progression would be so inspiring. The first quilt I started was the 2021 A Quilting Life BOM. I decided to make the 6-inch blocks (which mostly turned out to be 5 1/2-inches) with the idea that if I messed it up, I wouldn't be wasting so much fabric. Boy, there were some really small pieces in that quilt! I think nearly every point is cut off. I was embarrassed to take it to a long-arm quilter, but I did anyway. Now that I have been quilting a couple years, I look at that little wall hanging and I can see that I have actually improved. It doesn't look as bad to me now, either. Thanks again for all the great info and inspiration that you provide.

I love the orange peel quilting design on the pumpkin quilt and the quilt behind Billy. I am currently hand quilting this design on my mini Happy Spools quilt that I am working on right now. I think that is going to become my go to background quilting design. Thanks to all three of you for all you do - love the podcast and all of your fabric and designs. I am always up at 6 am with my cup of tea on the days the podcast comes out!
Finished is not better than perfect. Finished IS perfect!
Question & Request: first I love watching your videos and love your fabric line. Chelsi your designs are very beautiful and expose true talent. Sherri, you are an excellent quilter with so so much to teach us, thank you. And…Billy, what can I say…you are the icing on the cake,
Question: can you explain the relationship between Moda’s Bella solids and the colors used by the designer. Do designers have to choose there colors within Moda’s personal fabric color palates? I am a new y and do not want to waste precious money purchasing outside fabrics if they are not going to be the best match. I see how designer fabrics can mix nicely at times…but I would like to bring in the solids.
Request: when you introduce a new line, could you also show 5 Moda Solids that would best mix in with the line. The dark beiges and grays can especially trick my eye. It would be very helpful to me, and maybe others to present those fabrics with each collection.

Hi there - I am a day late, but wanted to comment on self judgement. I am a longarm quilter and all quilts are not created equal but each one is precious to the maker and to me is a personal work of art. I am privileged that these creators trust me with their quilts. Love this pod cast. You all do a terrific job. Keep it up.
Loved your sharing of first time presentations- I have such a fear of speaking to people! For the past 3 years I have been the bookkeeper for 6 parishes. Giving annual financial reports. I have come a long way!! So, I really understand what you shared. I can do a presentation now with much more confidence and I don't um my way through it! I just love listening to you all 3 of you!! Thanks for continuing to have RUclips videos!
I know that when I really pay attention to when the pattern says that the block should measure whatever the size is, I stop and measure to see if my block does measure what it should - then the blocks go together so well and I see if I need to adjust something. Great

I had a serger quilt I made maybe 4 years ago. I didn’t love it and sew many mistakes. Well I challenged myself to finish it and now I keep it on the couch for the pups. I like it much better finished! Would love to see an episode with Chelsea’s boxed quilts!
Chelsi, I'm so excited about the quilt along! I have the pattern and I made it for a gift using Cider by Basic Grey (it was beautiful!). But I want one for myself because it's such a great pattern. I'm going to use Christmas Morning/Christmas Eve by Lella Boutique.
Chelsi, I actually recently re-discovered my 2nd quilt top I ever made (it was stuffed in a drawer for over a year). I hated this quilt top, but decided what the heck and quilted it myself because I'm learning how to longarm and thought it would be a good "throw away" to learn longarm techniques on. It's now quilted and bound and I absolutely love it. I'm so happy I quilted it! My husband loves it as well and it's been really nice seeing how much I have improved over the last few months.
Congratulations on finishing your quilt. Even though I've been quilting for 30+ years, there are still times as I'm almost finished with a quilt that "I don't particularly love it...let alone like it".
I've experienced the joy of learning that it doesn't last but a few days or a week or two. (I do always finish a quilt before starting my next one...personal choice). I've come to believe that we are so up close to our quilts while working on them, both physically and figuratively speaking that our ability to 'See' them is hindered at times.
Separation from the quilt allows time to regain one's perspective. Definitely not saying this happens frequently nor saying it happens a bit often. But on an occasion it 'May' occur.
And, Oh the sweetness when my mind becomes aware of the delightfulness of the quilt.
To me, each quilt is as different and unique as each snowflake and each person is. Therein I take my joy and delight.
So happy to read how you are enjoying this quilt and many more wonderful quilts to follow.

Yes Chelsi!!!! Cant wait to see the "box" quilts! Youve been talking sbout them so long I'm dying to see them! I bet you will be pleasantly surprised once they are quilted no doubt they will be beautiful!!! My first quilts are quilted & loved and no one but me sees the "mistakes"
Another great episode! I so identified with Chelsi's concerns about her beginning work not being up to snuff. I was a very experienced sewist when I started quilting after a huge life change that left me feeling bereft. Plunging into quilting was almost a desperation move. I needed it to work for me. I too folded up those early tops and stuck them away. Recently I took the plunge when I was decluttering and putting together items for donation - I opened that box and examined those early tops. Outcome: I hadn't sewn on the border for one of them, but the border fabric was folded inside the top. It was like a message to my today self, finding that border yardage. And the top is not that bad! It's not perfect, but, also not bad, so currently I am hand quilting it. I decided since this would be my first hand quilted full quilt that a less than perfect top is really low risk and will probably look fine. I'm having fun doing the baptist fan motif. So I say finish those quilts, too. I know I can't be alone in having this experience, and I hope all quilty newbies give themselves grace and allow their artistry to develop over time. My accuracy is now light years away from where I was back then, and I have the confidence to start more advanced, time consuming projects.
My mother-in-law did tap and jazz dancing into her 80's. Her motto was "You rest, you rust."
I think you will love seeing the tops quilted, Chelsie. You will have a record of you growth in you quilting skills.
I usually fail first and then it clicks then the sun comes out! Sometimes it takes more than one fail. I am okay with fail!

Chelsi I am looking forward to you letting us see the quilts you think are not up to par! It is a big step for you! I have two baby quilts I long armed when I was just learning. They have minky on the back . I had the stretch of the minky going the wrong direction and they don’t lay as flat as they should. They have been in a bin for several years just needing a binding to be finished. I have been inspired by you to take them out and bind them. I will gift them to a little one even if they aren’t perfect!
Love the idea of revealing the box on air. We all start somewhere and strive to get better with piecing,, cutting, etc with every quilt. Maybe you could look at each quilt, let us know why you don't like it and how you would have done it differently knowing today what you may not have known then. Some of us may have that same problem today. Maybe the borders are wonky. Tell us how to keep that from happening.
Chelsie I want to see them. I will feel so much better because I have mistakes also and usually I see the Vlogers with perfect quilts and I feel so bad because theirs are always perfect! It would be great if they would at least tell where some of the "Hard parts" are and some tips to work on that, and so on so we can get through the patterns a little easier.
Would love to see your quilt tops, maybe your perspective will change when you see them again.

Chelsi. I am struggling. I have these 3 quilts I started 22 years ago. I recently wanted to get back into quilting now my 3 kids grown, but am working. I have 1 top finished and pinned ready to quilt, another top done but struggling to finish the scrappy backing. I keep buying your fabric and patterns but can't start until I finish. I'm so stuck. But I'm loving your podcast you guys do inspire.
Who says you can’t start until you finish? Pick a small project that you are excited about to get yourself back in the groove.
But you don’t ever have to work on something you don’t love. Put them aside until you are excited to work on them or until you know they won’t ever be something you’ll love working on. Life is too short and quilting is too joyful to waste time on “have-to’s.”

I would love to see your quilts from your beginnings. But why don’t you show them one at a time as they get Quilted,so it inspires people over a longer period of time(in case somebody joins your podcast several months from now then you’re still showing your learning quilts, and this may inspire more people)Joan
Technically, you ARE the influencers. While you maybe inspired by others you don’t need to be stuck with or limited by someone else’s opinion
