The first time I saw Queensryche was when they opened for Metallica on the And Justice for all your. I saw them again in 1990 for the Empire tour and they did Operation Mind Crime in it's entirety it was awesome.

Hands down the BEST and most unique metal band to come out of the 80’s!! I was hooked as soon as the ep came out and it only got better from there, Warning is my all time favorite album and never gets old. They sadly never got the recognition they deserved but it made no difference to me, I absolutely love this band and their music for me is timeless. Such incredible talent

Geoff was the best vocalist I've ever heard. It's strange he could have ever smoked cigarettes unless he started after the first few albums were recorded. Even Bruce Dickinson fails to measure up to the early Geoff. Regardless of radio and mtv playing their music, Queensryche is still underrated. They're one of the greatest bands of all time, especially in terms of live performance.
I think he started smoking early on but begone chain smoking with recording of Mindcrime, then lots of touring, smoking and drinking, they was on the road for a long time, I think the empire tour killed his voice, that tour was like 3 years long, but you hear him on the MTV unplugged, you can him sound like he did in 86/87, his golden years i think was 82- 94

Yup. 1987 was Geoff's last true year before he started slowly declining due to heavy cigarette smoking. On the OM tour for the first time you could see he could no longer pull off the beginning of Take Hold of the Flame or Queen of the Reich. From 1987 to 1988 the decline was evident and by 1994/1995 he lost it completely.

the magnitude of the creativity on Rage for Order is stratospheric. I loved this album in my teens, but I don't think I truly appreciated the true beauty of it until now in my 40s.
Now I see why I struggle getting into Queensryche without Tate. Todd is a great singer and can hold his own covering old material but by no means could he match a performance like this concert of Rage.
Thought you fellow QR fans might like this story.... In late 1985 I met Eddie the bass player literally right before the band broke big. I was the guitar tech/roadie for a great guitar player named Frank Still in an up and coming metal band. They unexpectedly broke up due to the singer not willing to practice (so close, Eric Claptons road manager was the bands manager, long story!) and the singer of Franks previous band (who had moved to the Seattle area) called him and asked if he would be interested in auditioning for his 'up and coming' band in Wa. and Frank said 'Hell yes!' He took me along for support and to help with the fuel costs of driving from Ventura Ca. to Seattle. With the help of copious amounts of blow and hard driving rock we made it non-stop in roughly 24 hours(!) averaging 80 mph (seems totally insane now!). Anyways, we did the visiting musician thing, which included going to a NICE recording studio to hear some demos of the band Frank was audition for, and rock clubs to see the local competition, and to do the all important networking. BTW, the highlight of the trip for me was seeing & briefly meeting Roger Fisher, the main songwriter and ex guitarist of Heart, a personal hero of mine. He was debuting his brand new band (which I don't remember) at the time. After visiting a few rock clubs, we returned to our hosts home with a small entourage of industry types and hangers on, and lo & behold, who's there but the very soft spoken and extremely shy Eddie Stone. Now, understand I had by chance just happened to have JUST seen not 3 nights earlier the debut video on MTV of 'Queen of the Reich' and was blown away by Geoff's vocals on the extremely low budget video, and the bands skills and original hard sound (hard rock popularity was at an all time low 85; new wave, heavy synth music, Cyndi Lauper, Culture Club, Madonna, Gary Numan, was all the rage at that time, much to my chagrin!). So fortunately I knew who he was, and was able to speak knowledgeably to him and compliment him on his band and the potential I felt they possessed. (I also met the drummer from the very first band that won what would become a very popular feature on MTV, viewer voted Battle of the Bands show where the winners got a recording contract. Amy Manns band Til Tuesday won the 2nd year for the excellent song 'Voices Carry' and IIRC was the only band to really see any commercial success out of the show, I could be way off here, who cares?). Anyway, Eddie noticeably lit up when he heard I knew who he was, he was wicked cool, had the 'look' with the big poodle hair that was all the rage at that time, but man was he a wallflower!! I liked him so much, he was the only 'stranger' that night I shared my coke with (back then, you had to be VERY secretive with breaking out at a party, especially if there were rock kittys around; I called them 'hoover whores', they would do ANYTHING for a blast!), I remember having to use a car key to scoop the shit out of the bag to offer it to him. The blow loosened his tongue quite a bit, and he proceeded to tell me all about the big things that were starting to happen with the band, which I found fascinating. BTW, for any of you who feel 'disappointed' about the drugs or don't believe, understand back then the entire music business literally revolved around cocaine, it certainly didn't have the stigma it does now. You almost had to do blow if you wanted to be taken seriously, a very very stupid ideal/attitude for certain, but that was the current reality. Also, on an aside, the 'Seattle Sound' was JUST getting its start in 85, Los Angeles being the defacto place to go to break into the music industry was finally loosing its monopoly, and Seattle was quickly becoming the new music melting pot of the U.S. It would later move from there to Memphis TN., etc. So, theres my story, too long I now, but I haven't thought about that time since it happened, so sue me for indulging myself!! :)
Rage for order is one of the best sounding albums of the eighties in my opinion! So sonically coherent and just perfectly balanced! For me, even though not all songs on the album are stellar, this album was the best effort of their career.
I always thought that an album was judged to be best based on the quality of the songs. This is why I don't understand all the comments about Rage for Order being Queensryche's best effort. Operation Mindcrime was clearly their masterpiece and nothing that they did before or after could ever touch it. Don't get me wrong. I love Rage for Order and that time period during the bands evolution was extremely unique.
@@EH1745Cane I truly love Operation Mindcrime and I think it's a brilliant album, probably one of the best albums ever, period! But I also think you can judge an album based on a lot of factors, such as best songs, sound quality, tone and overall feel. For me, I think that Rage for Order has as good songs as Operation Mindcrime, but with the addition of a more unique feel and the gritty sound. Plus for me Rage always has a special place in my heart, due to it being the album that got me into Queensrÿche. But choosing their best is hard since I think they are the best band ever (at least the period 1984-1994).
The power they unleashed, these guys were a "stand alone band" there was only one "Queensryche" each of them together were musical dynamite with the explosive "Geoff Tate " to touch it all off. Geoff was vocally "untouchable" in these days. His power and vocal range were inhuman, Queensryche was force unlike any other. Queensryche 🤘🏻
Awesome!, seen this tour(opening for AC/DC-who made who tour), and didn't know who they were but was blown away by the music and Geoff's stage presence, went out and bought Rage for order and was not disappointed, great band, too bad it over now....
Too bad about the quality but you can tell that Geoff sounded amazing. I wish i could remember seeing them back when i was 15 with Ozzy at the Sportatorium.
At this fleeting point in time, Geoff Tate had no peer at his profession with his timbre, delivery, and control... his voice simply sounds gorgeous here. Alas it was not to last forever.
Think about this...they hadn’t even dreamt of the epic, legendary, phenomenon that would become their next album. The greatest concept album in the history of music imo. Amazing to think about. I love Rage. 🥳🤘🏼⚡️
AngelofAnguish Lol try Chris Cornell in his prime. I love Geoff and his lower register singing is great, but he can't match Cornell's raw power when belting high notes.
John Santos Beg to differ. Check out these 2 live performances. And Chris's voice held up a lot better over the years m.ruclips.net/video/hTr8BNLqrOM/видео.html m.ruclips.net/video/fAV01JhxvfM/видео.html

Something new and wonderful was happening here.
I remember Queensrÿche with Keel and Black N Blue - 1986 Tucson, AZ Exhibition Hall.
Warning and Rage are my Zeppelin I & II
never saw Geoff with a giutar on stage ...
this video is stunning
I was at this concert!-I didnt know this video existed !!!!! great memories
This a bad recording, which is understandable as it’s 86, but you can still tell they sounded amazing!! That voice!! ❤
Yes, this is a unique album. Great band, great show. Thanks!
This is ridiculous!! Man I'd love to hear this w/ output from the soundboard...they sound incredible!!
Never a disappointment going from album to live. Geoff and the band were always spot on. Damn they were so great.
This is awesome. Tate was like a force of nature
Now I see why I struggle getting into Queensryche without Tate. Todd is a great singer and can hold his own covering old material but by no means could he match a performance like this concert of Rage.
I struggled after Degarmo left... Geoff leaving was the nail in the coffin...
Exactly the same for me too
WOW at 23:30 There would be no reason to be so ALAAAARRRMED!!!!!!!! Geoff was an arial bomber from the skies of vocal range.
Queensryche 4ever!!! ❤❤💯 RYCHE-N-ROLLER'S!! Where are you? 🤘🤘🎸🎸
We are all still here. Just saw the Ryche this week in Denver. Tate no more but La Torre does a great job. We will all always love 80s Ryche.
Sherwood Hall in Salinas, CA 1986 RFO tour was there and it was incredible.
AMAZING BAND 💖THE ONE AND ONLY QUEENSRYCHE 💖🤘
I saw this show in Nashville, TN when they opened for Ratt. It was incredible - we even got to meet Geoff and Chris after the show. Too cool.
So Good Nice listening to great music during these hard times Thank You
Same here ... QR was amazing on that tour!
amazing......and rage for order still sounds like it could come out tomorrow.
Damn. Wish I could have seen this in person - BEAUTIFUL!
Opeing with Neue Regal. How fucking great would that have been.
I seen them with Ratt, I left after Queensryche went off stage. XD
+The Chucker Really? I can only assume you're 10 years old. Grow up dude.
dont sweat it (almost) everyone was doing coke back then.
D Grundman so what happened to Frank Still?
So true but i still love him now he jas a more matured sounding voice
Rage for order is one of the best sounding albums of the eighties in my opinion! So sonically coherent and just perfectly balanced! For me, even though not all songs on the album are stellar, this album was the best effort of their career.
Agreed!
Mount Rushmore Metal God voices! Tate, Halford, King Diamond, and Ozzy! All P.FM.
Pure Fucking Magic!
80's Ruled Metal!
Tate's vocals were truly so impressive back then. Even live. Wow. Teuly impressive. Thanks for posting that gem of a video.
Chassytimi I had good seats for this concert. I was so blown away.
Fn queensrych best ever
Too bad about the quality but you can tell that Geoff sounded amazing. I wish i could remember seeing them back when i was 15 with Ozzy at the Sportatorium.
Rage is a legit metal masterpiece!
R4O without doubt 1of my favorite
top5 coveted releases! Way ahead
of it time. Only saw them once on this
tour w/ Loudness &King Kobra.
Incredible! I saw this tour stop in Sacramento, Ca opening for ACDC and QR just blew everyone away. No one could touch them during those years.
At this fleeting point in time, Geoff Tate had no peer at his profession with his timbre, delivery, and control... his voice simply sounds gorgeous here. Alas it was not to last forever.
Man was he fucking awesome back then.He still is good for age.saw him at the TLA in Philly was a great show..
I was there , they were opening for Ozzy , amazing show but first time I saw them was in 1982 , opening for Twisted Sisters
Think about this...they hadn’t even dreamt of the epic, legendary, phenomenon that would become their next album. The greatest concept album in the history of music imo. Amazing to think about. I love Rage. 🥳🤘🏼⚡️
I agree operation mind crime is the best ever ..the graphics on the cover were unlike anything and the music is unmarked mastery
OH YEAH...AND I SAW THIS TOUR...MY 1ST...AND THATS WHO I EMULATED VOCALLY FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS OR SO
I get excited when I here footsteps in the hall.the perfect stocker song
In awe That is all
Still love watching this stuff, this is Geoff at his best
***** 1651997 Geoff is on FIRE, absolute raw power! 40:03
+Simon Christensen Know of ANY MODERN rock/metal singers who can do THAT?
AngelofAnguish
Lol try Chris Cornell in his prime. I love Geoff and his lower register singing is great, but he can't match Cornell's raw power when belting high notes.
Yea , love Cornell but there's no way he came close to Geoff in his prime .
John Santos
Beg to differ. Check out these 2 live performances. And Chris's voice held up a lot better over the years

Have you heard early Soundgarden live?
m.ruclips.net/video/fAV01JhxvfM/видео.html
Even his live stuff late in his career was brilliant in a totally different style. Have you heard his cover of Nothing Compares to You?

What an atmosphere!
NOW THIS IS QUEENSRYCHE and TATE AT HIS PRIME!! Guitar work AWESOME!!! I LOVED THIS ALBUM!!!
Holy shit that’s good!
Thanks Mateus. Saw them at Alpine Valley in 86 on this tour open for AckaDacka. They still haunt me to this day. Had the Japanese laserdisc version of the concert, watched it over and over on this song, watching him hit the notes. Amazing back then, and on Hear N Aid.
Man, they tore it up!! Brings back so many memories, too bad they split up.
Saw them on the Warning tour Geoff''s voice hurt my ears and overpowered the band. The band was tight. I became a fan after seeing them live. Great band in the 80's & early 90's. Wish there was more footage of the early years.
I want a time machine!!
TOP 5 LIVE SHOW I'VE SEEN ..
