Godzilla Battle Line: Monster X and Keizer Ghidorah Meme Matches

  • The long awaited Monster X is finally here in Godzilla Battle Line! I'm a big fan of Monster X and I was super hyped when he was revealed, but after using him a bit it became clear he has some issues. Toho really dropped the ball with MX in several areas, from his kit to even his model and I was thoroughly underwhelmed by him. I felt like they could've done things differently with him.
    Monster X is a 5 cost ground unit who charges into battle at a very high speed, and evolves on death like Rodan 93. He has a beam attack for long range and a spin attack up close. Yep, that's all. There's not much else to this guy other than that which is really a damn shame. They just made him a suicidal throwaway character. I really think this was a good chance to introduce some sort of new evolution method. One that would make Monster X more useful than just running in and dying, because he's such a cool and unique character on his own. It sucks you can only use him once. Even sadder, I think his pre evo is actually better in battle than his final form simply because of his rushdown capability, and that's not saying much.
    Keizer Ghidorah is a 7 cost ground unit that walks slowly and zaps enemies with his gravity beams, but up close he does a blood sucking bite attack that heals 20% of his hp whenever he defeats an enemy with it. That sounds good on paper, but Keizer has such a sluggish attack speed that it will rarely come into play even if he does walk forward a little bit in between each attack. He also will never bite the fliers even if they're in range which sucks ass. On top of that there seems to be some animation bugs with him. He just feels super clunky like he's having a hard time switching attacks, and sometimes this will cause him to not deal damage, and other times he won't even heal. Y'know I'm starting to notice a theme here. Any characters with multiple attacks in their kit all have the same kind of issues, where the switching animations make them move even slower than usual, or they just have bad targeting. MG21, Kiryu Kai, MG74, Eva-01 and 02 all have these issues just to name a few. These characters are buggy as hell and are taking forever to change animations to attack making them super unreliable. It seems like Toho doesn't know how to program multi moves properly. They need to get their shit together and fix all of these characters.
    Keizer is just a big bag of missed opportunities. I would've preferred if Keizer just healed every time he used the bite instead. It's kinda silly that only kills count for it, because usually another teammate steals his kill or he's just not in range for it. He also should've been able to pull enemies closer with his beams, that way he'll have an easier time biting them. Cause in the movie he used his beams like whips to literally throw Godzilla around into some buildings. That sounds broken as shit, but like, he's a 7 cost evo unit. He should be doing more than a 5 cost flier, but right now he's not.
    Keizer's model is also stupidly small which is more of a nitpick of mine. I know the scale of monsters in this game is inaccurate by nature, but it's like they didn't even try to resemble it with Keizer. He actually is shorter than G04, when in the movie he was nearly double G04s height. This is supposed to be one of the strongest versions of Ghidorah but he just looks so pathetic in comparison. They also made his foreheads too big, he's like a three headed Megamind running around. We know Toho can make big characters big, just look at Ghidorah 2019, his wingspan is massive. So wtf happened with Keizer?
    The other Final Wars units got some buffs and I use them again here. G04 hits harder and Gigan is now tankier and faster. I don't really think Gigan needed any more buffs, he's already cracked. I also threw King Ceasar in the team too, who's another character that could use some buffs. KC has been severely power creeped over time and usually Mothra Leo does his job better. However KC did alright for me if my opponent wasn't sweating their balls off running Kumo or Mothra 19. One change I would give KC is to make him ignore water like Gigan 72 does. Water slows him down significantly and gives your opponent so much time to react to him. If he ignored it he would be much more useful on New York and London.
    Unfortunately MX's season was just not it. They lowkey butchered another beloved fan favorite kaiju the fans have been eagerly waiting for, but at least MX is not as bad as Shin was on release, dear god that was trash. Hopefully MX gets some fixes down the line, he definitely needs some. Next time I'll be taking a look at my favorite Godzilla, G2K, along with Destoroyah and Jet Jaguar 73 who both got MASSIVE buffs.
