Bastion is heavily inspired by the film The Iron Giant. The iron giant was made as a weapon and his light will blink red in the presence of weapon, just like Bastion. He even has emotes and sprays in honor of the movie
I love that short, it brings so many feels and brings home the truth of PTSD in such a strong way. Ganymede (the Bird) saves so many people in that video by giving Bastion a chance at being good. All the Animation is done in house by the Blizzard in house team, the guy it was in memory of was Yvain Gnabro who was one of Blizzards animation team that worked on all the overwatch trailers he was killed in a Motorcycle crash on his way home from work. R.I.P Yvain. Nice reaction
Great response Dave, thank you! I (Jane) use to ride a motorcycle but you hear about too many things like what happened to Yvain Gnabro. Super sad. Thanks for giving us some back story on the video, it makes it even more amazing!
Owlmare Well, seeing as this is a world where robots are sentience, having a mind of their own and free will, possibly able to feel emotions. Basically just mechanical people, it is PLAUSIBLE that Bastion could have PTSD. Not 100% true, but possible.
Babigurl4lif303 I'm gonna spare you some detail, so here's a short version on Overwatch universe concerning this topic: 1. His actual name is E54, not Bastion. Bastion were the name of peacekeeping none-sentient robots built by humans, later repurposed by God A.I.s in the 1st Omnic Crisis, as they stole the blueprints. 2. Machines can't feel or have mental disorders, since they do not have the chemical compositions to do so. 3. E54 is this a machine, it's possible that some self-improving algorithm got left in him. DOES NOT however, change the fact that he's just a machine, and that whatever self-awareness he shows is just another algorithm in his system. A simulation. 4. It could be possible, but seeing how there's NO MAGIC in Overwatch universe, and everything can be explained with tech, unless the developers say otherwise, he is a machine, and machines can't feel. 5. Last FACT - According to his official bio on Overwatch website, he has a programmed reaction to possible threats. This pretty much confirms that he doesn't have PTSD, but simply, it's another algorithm.
JV, those are man tears, don't be embarrassed. I shed them watching this one myself. With a story like that about brothers, it SHOULD make a man tear up. Please react to the Overwatch Short "Alive" next!
Bastion believed that he does not belong in the peaceful world of the forest and that all he had was his mission. Some believe the bird (Ganymede) saved that city but Bastion was really going to his death to join his fallen comrades. He probably would have been cut down long before he even go close, but that city was his objective. He was a soldier displaced out of time. In the end he was able to choose for himself his own purpose and finally turned his back from his original program. And stuff like that there.
i am a 21 year old man and just had some tears in my eyes xD so many emotions in a short film where no ones even say a word ( still watched the german version :D)
The castle you saw was Eichenwalde, a map ingame. The city Bastion was heading to is Stuttgart, I believe. The guy wih the shield was Balderich von Alder. He was he leader of the Crusaders, which were a german group of soldiers that wore those armours. Reinhardt also was a Crusader. The Bastions were built as guard robots, but at the beginning of the Omnic Uprising, the Omnic Leader, I believe his name was Osiris or Anubis, hacked them and programmed in that red mode. Unlike the Omnics, the Bastions didn't have personalities, but Basion developed one and became an Omnic, I think. I don't think it was PTSD though. Bastion went offline and shut down before he engaged in combat. It probably just was his combat mode that reacted to the sounds.
This short is amazing. It shows that no matter who you are, or what you've done in the past. Even if you're a war machine. You can always choose peace over war. Just like Bastion, even if you're on a path of destruction, you can turn your back on that path and choose peace.
This video will definitely get you to cry. For most people, it will not at their first try. Just keep doing for months, then you would cry cause of it.
Funny how a five minute long animation meant to add flavor to a fictional robot from a video game does a better job depicting PTSD than some big budget hollywood productions.
Blizzard has been making top of the line cinematics since 1997 so I dont know if you can say that they took from Disney/Dreamworks/Pixar since they all started around the same time or later.
Weird fact. I left my desk and the character screen was on overwatch and it was bastion's screen. My cat was on the floor trying to climb onto the desk and freaking out, because the bird on his finger looked so lifelike she thought it was a real bird.
I dont like Reinhardt anymore 😢 He killed a load of Bastions. Before you go ranting on to me YES I know there were more Bastions and Bastion used to be evil. I just find the Bastions really cute 😭😭😭
The feels. Blizzard is amazing. They can tell a great story without saying a word. Their team is in-house.
'Bastion is one of my favorite characters' *triggered*
Lore wise I love the dude, but in game he can be annoying af lol
le cringe when you know that Bastion can't shoot through walls.
@@bcn1gh7h4wk im just glad i never saw his personal turret rein shield

There's some Castle in the Sky: Laputa in there as well (with the combat robot covered in grass and flowers from disuse).

No worries Keep up the good work
Just a heads up, Bastion has no PTSD. Robots can't have PTSD.

haha, You caught me Black Ice Studios. These stories are amazing.
The last bastion is my favorite short out of all of them.
before we all new it. this video was about PTSD all along lol
We saw this one right after the "alive" short of Widowmaker. Talk about having your feelings swing from one extreme to the next.
They don't need help from disney or any other studio for this, they've been the best in cinematics in the game industry since the early 90s.

It's ok to cry in the most beautiful thing you've ever watched, I did too...
All Blizzards animations are done by them and them only :)

LOL
Not a single word was made, and they still managed to tell a story. Blizzard really knew what they were doing when they were making these trailers
Good stuff . Just continue with the other Animated shorts , and maybe leave the Dragons one for the final . Take care
Thanks for the feed back Fobeal DtMtl. We love Reacting to Overwatch trailers.
"use of tobacco"

The animation starts
Music: SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL ME...

To me the last bastion animated short is the saddest because he doesn't remember anything and he finds out he is the last bastion alive
This video will definitely get you to cry. For most people, it will not at their first try. Just keep doing for months, then you would cry cause of it.
This is actually very powerful and portrays, essentially, what it's like to have PTSD from war. That's what bastion has D;
The look on Jane's face when Bastion had his PTSD moment was the best.
Bastion : yeah screw you nature 4:08

jane's be like "oh no he killed the bird, now im sad...oh wait the bird's live now im happy again"
I’ve seen all of your reactions to overwatch I love all of them I just subscribe and shared your Chanel 🥰🥰
Now you guys need to react to "The Bastion Song A Musical by JT Machinima". It's related to this video.

It's not skytrain, it's infiltration with Sombra
with all of this animations that blizzard made they should try and make a movie out of there games
Show, don't tell
Perfect example
so much feels with no dialogue in this short
Bastion, the robo-druid. Lol
Hey i wanna ask
What do you think youtubers do after they stop recording?
Fun fact Bastion actually has a voice actor even though he doesn't speak.
bastion's your favorite character, oh no.
I dont like Reinhardt anymore 😢 He killed a load of Bastions. Before you go ranting on to me YES I know there were more Bastions and Bastion used to be evil. I just find the Bastions really cute 😭😭😭
That wasn't Reinhardt, it was Balderich Von Adler, he was kinda like Reinhardt's Boss.
BEST D.VA Oooohh
