I literally ate lunch, watched this video, then went out on a fishing pier and did this, I caught a stingray. Then I put a pyrimid wait on the end of it to just let it sit and I swear I caught about 10 fish that day using a jig and live shrimp, my line broke like 7 times so I need a stronger line next time. Amazing experience and only way I’m going to ocean fish, when I’m on the lake I fish with a frog always works for my large mouth bass.
He didn’t explain why the tail needed to come off. It’s like telling you to do it a certain way but not really explaining why it’s done this way. For everything else he did a Fantastic Job, with a good explanation on each of the methods.
Although it takes away the ability of the shrimp to kick, it is a great presentation in my opinion because shrimp tend to swim backwards get fleeing from predator fish. I like it.
Thanks for the tip! I always lean towards squid for bait on the left coast because it’s hard for fish to steal, but I think I’m gonna try shrimp on my next outing.
I agree. People may argue, but your paying extra for live shrimp for a reason. To have them alive. Hooking a live shrimp even in the simplest way would still end up killing the shrimp over a short period of time. So ripping off part of the body and hooking the shrimp from tail to body doesn't help one bit of it living any longer.
I have question recently started fishing and i have spinning set up i have jig hook but can i use that jig hook to hook bait it it has metall ball at the top with 15g weight
Hello there, I had a problem with hooking the live shrimp on top of it head.(behind the horn) whenever I cast it, it slide off easily from my hook and lost me quite a few live shrimp I don't what is wrong?! I'm using gamakatsu octopus circle hook for it though...
This video is incomplete without showing the technique for fishing a live shrimp that is rigged in this manner. Do you fish it like a jig (slow retrieve and bouncing off the bottom) with the shrimp moving backwards??
@@josephsevilla2501 it’s not about what’s humane it’s about what is effective. Like I said a dead shrimp would fall right off after jigging it a few times

With so many "expert anglers" out there in RUclips land saying they have the right way to rig a shrimp. It's confusing which is the best technique. Guess the phrase trial and error apply here for this novice.
@@RadReelingFishing believe I asked this question because I saw one of your examples...thru the head. I've been using the thru the tail method w some success.
My husband and I went fishing and were putting the shrimp in head first. That’s the way the man at the bait shop told us to do it and we did. Every time we’d throw the line in we’d get a bit just to pull it up to be disappointed and our shrimp gone. Maybe there guy didn’t know any better OR he knew a way to get people coming back for more. Either way thank you for this helpful tip. We will definitely try this tomorrow and hopefully catch some fish.
He is correct using live shrimp vs dead. Just like you can tell the difference between fresh sushi vs week old sushi. Dead shrimp will catch you more scavengers than quality fish.

Salt Strong I’ve been looking for that Jighead. Who makes that ??? Can’t find it.
That shrimp went through hell. Lol
He was still alive
Wonder how many vegans he pissed off
😂😂😂
Shrimp lives matter!! Great info. Can't wait to use this technique in Cuba tomorrow. Do frozen and thawed shrimp stay on the hook as good?
@@shompzz live shrimp or nothing at all
This is an awesome tip. This also keeps the shrimp on the hook rather than easily losing it on cast

All i could picture in my mind was this shrimp screaming in agony.😆
Go back to the salad bar and cry

It is much easier to rig the shrimp this way without the tail

Good setup for dead shrimp, but rigging a live shrimp this way just doesn’t make any sense.
It depends what you are fishing for.
Sometimes I’ll do this for a bigger presentation to entice the bigger fish.
Ryan Kissee theres no correct way, whatever works best for the angler that particular time of day and what type of fish hes fishing for

The shrimp had tears in his eyes 🥹
Does it work with texas rig as well? Or just in a free line, no weight?
Yeah that's the correct way to kill a shrimp dude
Do you have a video of a better method? I'm always looking for a better way.
@@tedheglund1331 I just do it in the tail, don’t have a video but the shrimp will swim strong
Why do you take the tail off? Could you not run the hook thru the hard part of the tail and help the shrimp stay on the jig better?

Thanks for the great explanation!
Good stuff as always saltstrong
What brand/size jig head are you using? I tried that technique today (7/29/2020) . My shrimp did not hook flat.
Thanks Buddy. I can't to get out there and try this!

Very nice presentation

No problem!
But if doing that on a long shank hook like a tenya , it will be very difficult
Can I bait in a similar fashion with an octopus circle hook?
Same deal. I think its better and the shrimp may actually move n attract a fish

Thanks for the tip, because of this, I was aple to catch a juvenile spottail shark, pretty rough guy to say the least.
That's the way I do it ,with Gulp too.
