Great to hear the vocal talents of Fred Wedlock, spent many an hour with Fred sitting around waiting for the time to go on stage, always had either his flask or a few tins and was always writing something in a note book or a small piece of paper... always coming up with original comedy. Can't believe its 10yrs since he's passed. A true gentleman who was as genuine on stage as he was off. Only met his wife a couple of times when he'd forgotten something or other and we'd arranged to meet in a layby somewhere on route to who knows. Sadly Missed, strangely enough only went through Timsbury on my way somewhere or other just last week and passed the end of his road... RIP my friend. Andy James.
thanks. I saw Fred Wedlock at the Clevedon Sailing club when I was 14. It was my first folk club and I was hooked. Saw him again several times over the years, most memorably at Nailsea School folk club the same week the Adge Cutler died. Fred sang an Adge song then and promised to keep on doing so. I hope others will continue to sing Fred Wedlock songs. His great voice, gentle humour and clever writing deserve to be remembered.
Well loaded. Saw Fred a number of times from my home town folk club to Cambridge Folk festival. Last time I saw him was 6 months before he passed away, at the Strawbs 40th birthday weekend. He was only booked to MC but someone dropped out so he opened the Sunday, must have been one of his last few appearances. We had a long chat during the break and I now treasure the memory. I've done the odd open mic slot and rotate They're Only Kids, Somerset Weather Poem or Vicar & the Frog and always let 'em know it's one of Fred's. Can't believe it's over 4 years since he died .
Great stuff Fred. We need your SOH badly these days once more.
Wonderful Fred - wish you were still here...

I miss him as well. A great character, and very generous too. His after-show sessions were even funnier.

Saw him in Shepton Mallet Center in the 70's (after getting into The Folker, and Frollicks) performing as "Fairy Nuff". Loved him.
Thanks for this. I have been thinking of Fred Wedlock a lot recently - I did see him once, maybe at Bristol Polly.
'Beer's a drag, man, it makes me fart' - the funniest line of the whole piece maybe
Found it at last. It makes me laugh so much
Could someone please post Fred's version of John Barleycorn.
