- Cruise news today: The port of Seattle has put cruise ships on notice that they must have shore power by 2027 or they can't dock there. A crew member jumped off the MSC Musica on Monday and still has not been found. Juneau pushes back to ban even more cruise ship but fell short on the ballot. Cruise line stocks for CCL, RCL, NCLH, and VIK.

Thanks for the B-roll footage of the massive power plugs for connecting to shore power. I have been wondering just how large the plug has to be. . .
That is so sad to lose another crew member. Prayers for the family and friends.
Afternoon Doug
Prayers to the missing 🙏 crew member and all involved .ty for your updates. Have a wonderful Thursday 😊
Afternoon Kathy , have an amazing Thursday !
It’s Thankful Thursday!!!!! Have a blessed day 🛳️🛳️
Have a blessed day as well !
Plugging in. It will do absolutely zero to reduce pollution. Liberal logic. Never the brightest, or the smartest
Agreed!
Damn right!
You seem like a nice guy
Do freighters and tankers also have to plug into shore power?
Not at this time; cruise ships were prioritized because they dock along the downtown waterfront and spend an average of 10 hours offloading/loading passengers and supplies, all while their diesel engines are on and churning out air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Also more and more cruise ships are equipped to use shore power; 100% of HAL and Princess ships that dock at Pier 91 are shore-power capable; I think the other cruise lines that call at Seattle are at about 50-55%, last I checked.
Port of Seattle is expanding electrical shore power to its regional cargo facilities at Terminal 5, and the Port of Tacoma (just south of Seattle) is also expanding shore power for container/cargo/tanker vessels, with a goal to install shore power at all container berths by 2030. Now they just need to get all the ships equipped to be shore power capable.
@@CAVU123 would they not have their engines also running? Freighters don’t just unload in a matter of minutes but do stay tied up for multiple hours. I don’t understand how there is much difference if this is so. It sounds like a bunch of brainwashed environmentalists found a target to put their finger on. The cruise ships also have scrubbers on the exhaust to clean the output and burn a cleaner fuel rather than bunker c while in port. I imagine this rule also applies to freighters and such. I can’t say this as gospel, I’m curious.
@@TripReviewsyou said it: brainwashed environmentalists. I have other words for them but I'm too much of a lady to say it in p public... 🙄
@@TripReviews Cruise ships using shore power use cleaner, landside electricity, and turn off their diesel engines while berthed.
Also open-loop scrubbers dissolve chemicals from ships exhaust but then discharge them into the water, which basically turns air pollution into water pollution; if you ever see black oily discharges off the side or back of a ship, that’s scrubber discharge.
I’m not “brainwashed”, but I live here, and I’d like to keep it clean.
@@CAVU123 but no one has talked about what the freighters do. Are they all hooked up to shore power while at pier side? Or are they running off of diesel? That is also my question. Kind of curious if environmentalists are after them too. So since freighters are not tied up close to downtown it doesn’t matter what they do, that’s the way it was expressed.
does not allowing a ship to dock on saturdays mean it can't actively dock or does it mean everyone who's parked there on friday has to be gone by saturday and no ships can dock until sunday?
No ship on Saturday. Maybe one come Sunday (or Monday).
Did you cover the Carnival Pride setting 3 records on the (not quite) Greenland cruise? I’ve been looking for anyone that reported on it since I got off and can’t find anything.
As always, efficient and to the point. I LIKE IT! Thanks.
Thank you very much.
So hard to understand why ?
Tragic to loose another crew member. Thoughts and prayers and the friends and family 😢💔🙏🏻
That is sad , tragedy for the crew member family and the crew.
What a way to plug in!!!! Have a great Thursday😊
Have a good Thursday !

Juneau info thank you
Thanks Doug! You are awesome!
You rock!
God be with the crew member’s family 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏
Good morning Doug! I hope Jacksonville is not going underwater like your southern cities. One can only imagine what leads these people to jump overboard, total desperation. Have a great day.
We’re not underwater , rather HOT .
Happy Thursday Doug… Hope it's a good one for you😎
Good morning Doug Thanks for the updates 👍
No problem 👍
Fantastic news updates YOUR AWESOME ❤😊❤❤
You rock!
Doug good morning. Thanks for the update
Thanks for watching !
Shore Power? But what Coal or Oil burning Plant are They getting
There Power from ?
Good am Doug ...
Washington state is primarily hydroelectric. Their last coal fired plant is scheduled to close in 2025.
From the Seattle Times: “Electricity from dams on rivers across the state made up over two-thirds of Washington’s energy generation in 2022.”
That's Great in areas that
have those Rivers Fast moving ....
@@helent1835 Yes, 80 percent is what release said.
Cheers Mate
Thank You Doug.
Very welcome Jana.
Ahhh New York actually required it two months ago. So because of the crime and Unkown if they board could plug in/ I canceled two cruises for Sept and December 2024. I ain’t playing.
New York has a relatively low crime rate.
@@billcook4768 No it does not. Stuff just don't get reported and DAs let cases go.
Good afternoon thank you
Thank you too
Morning Doug,
It’s great that Seattle wants to enforce this. Ships can pull out and leave out of Vancouver, which to me was a lot more fun than Seattle. Overall, I agree with ports doing this.
It’s sad when person overboard, regardless of reason. Glad MSC gives minimal details.
Thanks Doug.
What is going on with people jumping off the ship, it use to be passengers jumping off now it’s the crew jumping. Maybe they should start doing psychological testing on the crew.
I understand why some of the passengers are jumping because they are drunk or just nuts, I don’t think the crew is drunk so maybe they should check for the other?
I'll be happy to have a conversation about energy when people acknowledge what powers the electric grids and the mining/energy/workforce involved to make batteries. And "who" profits from this agenda.
Leave it to the dang Pacific Northwest to require that
We don't talk enough about crew member's mental health
100%. Cruise lines front like they do. They see $$.
What's with MSC and staff jumpings?
LOL - bless their hearts. Seattle is something...
Have a great day.
Have a nice day
Hi Doug these people who keep jumping off of cruise ships I think staff should go some sort of evaluation for mental health been stuck on a cruise ship for so long I don’t think it is good for the mind and Alaska is making to many demands just stop going there,
This is the conversation that needs to be had. Not someone saying, 'Well, it's relatively a small amount compared to how many people there are at any given time.' One life is too much.
Another packed thurs report. Sad jumpers/ob count at 10! Good Seattle aims for 'plug- in' ! I think NYC already has, pls ck this out. Guess i have to get back to Alaska . Plus other topics
What’s up with these folks jumping overboard? Mental health is a serious problem!
🙏🙏🙏 1:18
Hahshaa goals
Good morning I wanted to ask you what is a reasonable price hotel with shuttle service to the cruise port in Jacksonville Florida leaving in February 2026
I would say an airport hotel to be honest. They are expensive downtown and sketch on the southside.
Seattle is just stupid!
That's an understatement.
It seems like there is an uptick in suicides lately.
I wish all the cruise lines would leave Seattle.
Thats how i feel working on crew ship... it's exhausting and abusive. Reports need to look into the life and health of crew members on board because they tend to be forgotten about as there is not a genuine organization out there looking out for their mental health and wellbeing.
First!
Good for Seattle with their environmental awareness soon to be requiring plug-in power for all cruise ships. But Seattle must do its part by fixing its airport. What a mess!
All you SJWs who fall for the environmental scam are making the rest of us suffer. You wring your hands about our nation yet turn a blind eye to China, the world's #1 polluter. Why - are they funding all the studies that support your beliefs?
All cruise ships should be consigned to Davy Jones locker for all Eternity!
Arr, thank ye kindly fer yer comment, matey!
More bad news about crew people going overboard. Otherwise great report.
Hi Doug,
I believe Charleston requires shore power as well.
Happy Thursday Doug! ❤😊❤
As someone who worked on cruise lines crew threatening to jump overboard is kinda common, cruise companies treated their crew like shit. And the restaurant/hospitality crew have it the worst. Expecially the bar tenders working 20+ hrs a day ever other day , and buffet workers having to work 13-16hr days 6months straight not a single day off. And crew aren't even allowed in guest areas anymore on different companies ships.
If that is indeed true that is inhuman. Cruise lines need to explain those practices if true. I don't think any other industry would get away with such practices.
@@kathleenswarm8564 it's true, the crew works boat loads of hours because of the laws in which the ships are registered in, some foreign ships are nightmares because they can work people 170+ every two weeks for low pay if it's restaurant service which is what I was in but on an American liner but got paid pretty damn good, others don't have it that easy, and it all depends on mindset too some people are just built for it like myself. Also to add if you don't meet expectations you could be fired quickly and left stranded at the next port so saving is extremely important for crew Because if they get fired and stranded with no money most of the time they become homeless in a foreign country
