@@hezuuu8 the second republic lasted from 1848 to 1852, it was succeeded by the second empire from 1852 to 1871 after a coup by the first ( and only ) president of the republic who happened to be the nephew of Napoleon and reinstated the empire.

I'm currently learning Spanish, one day I hope I will learn French, I really admire the glory of France and it's culture, I hope to visit France, French Guyana, and perhaps more of their colonies/former colonies.
That country has had a huge impact on the history of the world, I don't care what the stereotypes say about them, I support them, I feel a great solidarity with them in this world that seeks to undermine our history, culture, and very existence. My connection with them is comparable to that which I feel for my own country, it truly is an honor to have them as an ally.

@@patart3846 C'est vrai que ce serait compliqué sachant qu'il est né 9 ans après la première Révolution, et puis on voit bien Gavroche sur le tableau qui est un symbole important de celle de 1830, on le retrouve d'ailleurs dans Les Misérables qui se passe à ce moment là.

Come on, if you include the unofficial "Maréchal, nous voilà !" you should at least also provide "Le Chant des partisans," the anthem of the French Resistance (personally, I would only provide the second song 🙄 ).
The French Resistance's song is not an anthem of any sort so it's not included here.

Super fun... but i just realized that aside from the old royal hymn (about Henri IV) and the one after the end of the 1st Empire, ALL our old anthems were about war and dying for France. But in the end, our hymn is the same as it was in 1795 (the war song written in 1792). It is about fighting monarchy and slavery, protecting the land of freedom against foreign monarchs. It is worth noting, too, that our first black deputy was elected in 1793 (one of the few who deputy survived the Terror and the Revolution), and that slavery was first abolished everywhere in 1794 (although restored to some extent later on).

@Leukos The problem is that Napoleon inherited the Revolutionary wars. It is not like he started all this crap. He fell because he wanted to end it once and for all, by depriving the last opposing country, the UK, protected on its island, of any support from Russia.

@@arthurbarber7546 if you want to talk about Napoleonic Code and many law he introduced then yes. But he did not however have a cultural or military legacy that last too long. He was the conqueror of Europe but his gain was too short-lived to be called legacy, and Louis XIV in the other hand while less succesful, his border of France didn't change too much(the reason France geography is perfect is the work of him and Vauban). And Louis XIV cultural legacy could still be felt and last more longer than Napoleon's, so saying that no French Monarch could've match his legacy is weird, but yea then again if it was about his achievement then yes no one match it.
Excessive bureaucracy may be the only caveat in France, but in rest, it is awesome.

@FERNANDO GONZALEZ You have to know (or to remember) that France is not a single people's country, and certainly not only Parisians', as it is made out of several components that united under the same nation by constraint or interest throughout history : bretons, vascons, catalans, provençaux, corses, savoyards, alsaciens, lorrains, flamands, to name only the most peripherical (not minor) cultures. France without them is not France anymore (call it Francia, perhaps, like the western-most part of the Charlemagne's Frankish empire). I don't know why you point out the Moselle. Of all "peripherical" languages that have vastly impregnated standard French, Low German is certainly one of the most dying these days.

Nice compilation but some maps are wrong: Corsica is French since 1769, and even if Alsace-Moselle was annexed by Germany in 1871, it was returned to France after WW1... And the pic used for the French First Republic is the one of 1830

Il me semble que l'hymne officiel sous Napoléon III était "Veillons au Salut de l'Empire". Il faudrait ajouter de Domine salvum fac nostrum imperatorem Napoleonem de Gounod... Lequel a d'ailleurs composé aussi l'hymne officiel du Vatican.
