"Innovation and technological change" UN Commission on the Status of Women - Press Conference

- Hybrid press briefing by H.E. Ms. Mathu Joyini, Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Africa to the United Nations and Chair of the Committee on the Status of Women. She briefs reporters on the preparations for the forthcoming United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67).
The sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) kicks off in New York next Monday with “a record number of women from all over the globe”, said this years’ Chair of the CSW.
Speaking to journalists on Friday (03 Mar), the chair, Mathu Joyini, Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Africa, said “[These participants are] from government from civil society, young people are going to join us.”
“And of course, the theme of this year's CSW is innovation and technological change and dedication in the digital age for achieving gender equality and employment of all women,” Joyini continued.
The Chair said the Commission is “hoping to have bold conclusions that set norms and standards to push forward, making sure that women are well represented in the tech sphere.”
Joyini added, “that education allows them to participate in the innovation, ecosystems that are there, that women, young women in particular, are given space to design technology, to develop technology, to deploy technology.”
The Permanent Representative also addressed the challenges for women and girls that have limits to their education that go beyond the digital world.
“That is unfortunate, what is happening in Afghanistan. When we are now talking about digital education, how do we make sure that girls get digital education, that they get computational education, so that they can participate meaningfully in the digital world… in other parts we were faced with a situation where there's not even education for girls, so it's quite hard,” concluded Joyini.
‘I salute women around the world who have helped their families and communities grow and endure in the face of hardships. I would like to thank them for all that they have done, and call on all of us to enable them to work and excel in society. We must also criminalise violence, injustice and marginalisation towards women while ensuring their rights are maintained without discrimination.’

Hello, I am a refugee 10 years in the UNHCR office in Malaysia. For 10 years, the office has been of no help to me, and I don't know my file in any discarded desk drawer. I want a personal card so that I can go to the hospital for humane treatment. When I go to the UNHCR office in Malaysia, they treat me with all the dirt, rudeness and humiliation. Then a man comes from inside and kicks me out and yells at me. I couldn't complain? Who can hear my voice? Where is my right as a human being? I have wasted 10 years of my life. I did nothing. I just waited for the UNHCR office. I want my right to resettlement. I only demand my right, and I also want to open a full investigation of those who traveled for illegal resettlement through bribes. Where are you? Why do you turn a blind eye to these abuses?
I share. It is not the same in all the world. What I can see? When a man feels weak he become also dangerous. So yes women are mistreated but you have to heal the roots of the probleme.
There are diffences of gender so they can not be equal but complementary.
There are fields now where females are biological more challenging.
The same for others skills where male are better. This in big shape ...
Civil society? I would like.
You should take the old good costumes and brought it the future.
Sure it starts from private sectors.
Education in some places must change.
Filtering? Mhhh yes it depends really where and how. Not equality, equal rights or also different right that respect the gender.
Example? Very easy one? A woman should stay with the child until 3/4 of age. This same rule is not useful for the fathers.
I would say better the respect of not equality of gender.
