    The fact that Neptune is 30 AU is just wild 💀

    • @thebeautyofuniverse5250
      @thebeautyofuniverse5250 5 месяцев назад +136

      Neptune and uranus probably migrated to where they are today was, by trading angular momentum with an old Kuiper Belt that used to be an actual disk with the mass of 10 earths compared to current one at mars mass in total
      Which the amount of trading angular momentum accumulated caused noticeable and big change in these ice giants orbits
      Why the old Kuiper Belt didn’t collapse into extra planets? Because it was too distant and vast for the particles to attract eachother, so it was only enough to create dwarf planets at maximum

    For those who don’t know: “AU” means Astronomical Unit. An Astronomical Unit is a unit of measurement more commonly used within our solar system. It is the distance from the Earth to the Sun which is approximately 93 million miles or 150 million kilometers. (I hope I did not get anything wrong, I’m sorry if I did.)

      Yeah, each of the planets is usually somewhere between 1.5 and 2 times further away from the sun than the last one.
      Which adds up, or rather multiplies up, quite quickly.
      With Neptune and Pluto being around 100 times further away than Mercury.
      Orbit times grow evem faster because squared distance is proportional to cubed orbit time, with Mercury taking around 0,25 years, and Pluto 250 years per orbit, a 1000 times difference!
