I seriously enjoyed all forms of this fight in particular from the books to the games to the Netflix show all of them did there own little twists and I love them all respectively
I love how he just embarrasses the striga just bc he can, like a striga is portrayed as one of the most difficult things (atleast in show) and Geralt just starts beating her with his bare hands and then slices her hair and then has the cheek to make her run away just by saying “boo” 😂😂
In the books, he kind of turns a manifestation of the hatred that cursed the princess back onto her like 'a mirror' so that she has to experience the horrible emotions for the first time, and it overwhelms her long enough for him to run to the crypt
What Tyler said. But I played the first game before ever reading the book so it seemed to me back then (and tbh while watching this now as well) that it was more a matter of establishing dominance as a means to intimidate the prey without having to draw blood :)
My hunch was right, going here while I was watching ep 3 and seeing that striga is the one from cinamatic intro of witcher 1. Not even finished watching it lol
Geralt in Witcher games and books: Beats Striga so bad that it runs while whimpering. Geralt in Netflix’s Abomination: Runs and hides from Striga, because she is a strong independent woman.
@@premaritalbread6824 because its classic and soundtrack, drinking potion, sword moves are more cool also this striga is not throwminator at least she is trying to kill geralt not throw away like in the tv series
It's aard. In the books Geralt used it for such long time while Striga was coming closer and closer. In the TV Series aard is used to throw Striga away for short ammount of time.
It was more a stylistic choice. Netflix-Geralt uses much subtler magic and uses it less often than Game-Geralt. NG uses a short-burst Aard like four times in the show total, and besides that only uses obvious magic to seal the Striga in the building with him and to seal the lid of the tomb. I think it was done to put more emphasis on sword-fighting and to better differentiate between Witcher-magic and mage-magic without spending much time explaining it. Plus once he does it once, the audience starts asking why he doesn't do it more often.
Playing through the first witcher game as we speak - I'm not sure if I should be sad that I have missed this until now, or happy that I get to experience it for the first time, even if the game feels dated, as the Netflix series is airing in parallel. I think I'm happy how it all turned out!
Probably because the writer himself was supervising the series production, yet the games similarity part probably was production and maybe even Cavill himself merit.
@@Andrecg99 Well we have instences of that through most series and movies eg. star wars and GoT.. the show runners do not always listen to the writer.. I've earned a lot of respect for the witchers first season lets hope it continues.
KidsAgain I agree... But in the later seasons, it seems that Triss has a bigger part in Geralt's life, and I don't see any click in Henry Cavill and Anna Shaffer having a relationship. It's just weird and ugh
Some people call TV Series Striga fight more realistic version while they don't know that this old cinematic trailer is almost 100% true to the books (don't remember jumping from high). TV Series version made Striga more powerful abd Geralt weaker which is good too but far from Sapkowski's vision where he meant to showcase Geralt as professional doing his job perfectly.
Geralt being more vulnerable makes the live action series more credible as a whole. If he was as untouchable in the live action series as he was in this cutscene or in the book, it wouldn't have been nearly as good.
@@rithrius5384 I disagree. Because Geralt as a Witcher after mutations was so powerful made fights more about shades of grey, rather than "if Witcher gonna survive or will he come out victorious". It's not Game of Thrones, story isn't about everyone being killable, even main protagonists. It's about those shades of grey, something more than just destiny and being good in such cruel world. + making Geralt so powerful helped boost the person who beaten him in the books and that loss echoes throughout the story.
@@pawe1721 EXACTLY. Geralt is Legendary White Wolf for fuck sake. but in the show..... he is an emotionless pussy wimp at best who got his ass handed to him by mid-tier bloodsucker
Netrunner But we haven’t reached that point in the chapters yet, and winning that final fight with vilgefortz was just pure luck, Geralt said so himself.
I've never read the books, I watched the Netflix series and played TW3. Idk what Gertalt is like in the books but compared to the fight in the Netflix series this is pretty much night and day. I don't see how people say it's similar. Netflix Geralt was struggling like crazy against the Striga, he was barely able to climb into the tomb with the Striga right on his tail after being beated up pretty badly, similar to how the fight with the TW3 Striga was. In this version Geralt's absolutely dominating the Striga in every way. In the beginning he's basically beating the Striga in a fist fight. After that it seems to me like he's almost toying with it, letting the Striga get close at the Igni moment and letting it fly away. He's incredibly nimble, climbing the tower like he's weightless, and after he pulls out the silver sword the Striga runs away in fear like a scared dog, the even added the scared dog sound effect. Geralt then calmly walks to the tomb and locks himself in there, almost like fighting the Striga was an afterthought. Thb I like this version a lot. Geralt is incredibly strong after all, and fighting monsters is what he does best so it makes sense that he would do quick work of a single Striga with ample time to prepare. But either this Geralt's way too strong, or the other depictions of Geralt are way too weak, 'cuase there's no comparison between them.
And in the books, during the fight, he only received a scratch to his back that was stopped by his armor so no major wound or bleeding. He only nearly died at the end due to the surprise throat slash
Geralt usually overcomes anything in the books. He's not a mumbling buffon who doesn't express much opinion about anything unlike in the show, he's not as quippy as he's in games either, but that's because he spends most of the books with some relentless chase that he's not enjoying at all. He is more violent, not someone you'd wanna cross, doesn't draw his blade that qucikly, but once he does, usually maimes, butchers or severely traumatises people who face him. He's also quiet unpredictable, when faced with impossible choices, he does't he least probable thing
This cinematic plays WAAY better than it did off my old 2008 PC. Back then I had to shut everything off, including the antivirus to get it to run. There was no frustration like playing for half an hour then having it crash only to remember I forgot to save my progress. Just one or two 'rage-quits' there. Lol
@@Beanthemx What was more realistic? Wtf id that suppose to mean? This cinematic showcases word to word what Sapkowski wrote, how he meant to showcase Geralt as professional. What's not realistic in being true to canon?
I like this much better than the show. It's way more accurate to what the short story in the book describes and doesn't make Geralt look half dead from the first two minutes. Sure, he doesn't jump buildings but at least I can compare my imagination with this illustration unlike the show that just made into a horror film.
Book and this cinematic: Geralt frees Ostrit so that he may lure the striga outside were he has a lot of space to fight and dodge. Netflix: Geralt leaves Ostrit tied up so he can fight the striga on thigh corridors were he has little space to move and get trowed around...
Also in books: Striga jumps on Geralt with her sharp fangs and claws with intent to rip him appart Netflix: Striga tosses Geralt around without using her deadlies weapons
@@Jun-Kyard so why did Netflix copy so much of this cinematic shot for shot? I've read the books, and they don't tell a director where to place a camera or how to light a scene. So they shouldn't really copy this cinematic, should they? you dumb fuck.

Um, no...Geralt got his ass kicked in the Netflix adaptation...this is a much much accurate representation of how it happened in the book. Geralt wasn't even touched by the striga until the end when he let his guard down.

Just read the first book had to come rewatch this. They did a really good job
Meanwhile, in Witcher 3, you collapse from a 2m fall.
Yet you can slay detlaff...hmmm
Geralt in Witcher games and books: Beats Striga so bad that it runs while whimpering.
Geralt in Netflix’s Abomination: Runs and hides from Striga, because she is a strong independent woman.
Still better then TV series
How?
@@premaritalbread6824 because its classic and soundtrack, drinking potion, sword moves are more cool also this striga is not throwminator at least she is trying to kill geralt not throw away like in the tv series
@@TheBurak47 Yes sir.
Reading the book now, glad this got animated
It's part of the first game
and now live action(with a good budget)
@@HelloThere-zt7jm but horrible writing cast and all and all horrible adaptation
This is actually 100% true to the book
Haven't really played the old Witcher games. It's hard to go back to these graphics after Witcher 3.
Would have been cool if they had him use the magic move at 4:04 on the Netflix series.
Too expensive?
Cost too much mana. Witchers were using signs rarely, only when sword and potions were not enough.
Had to watch this after seeing Henry Cavil fuck that Striga up with brass knuckles.
Cinematic was better than the show
Playing through the first witcher game as we speak - I'm not sure if I should be sad that I have missed this until now, or happy that I get to experience it for the first time, even if the game feels dated, as the Netflix series is airing in parallel.
I think I'm happy how it all turned out!
The series stayed so true to the books and cinematics... good to see that good producers still exist

@@spadeecstasy8709 Well yea... i kinda see that.. But at the same time im not let a ginger change ruin the show for me.

Geralt: Fuck!
@@cappymons8191 wrong. THey are making mish mash of the stories trying to cram everything into one season.
This is the best video of the Witcher series.
he puts up a way better fight here than in the show
3:55 FUCK !!!
Btw. at the end of the fight when these there nails appeared geralt had his neck cut to the point that only a bit of time and it would be it.
Just finished reading that part of the book 2 years after I played this game for the first time. This is a pretty good recreation
I can't say if the series did it better, but this scene was epic in both adaptations and I love that
I've never read the books, I watched the Netflix series and played TW3.
There's no Striga in TW3 bro
Omg he is fucking OP!!! I like both fights, this and the series one! An awesome character
Even without the potions, young Geralt looks like a ghoulish elf
When THIS

Just like the book told! I am really impressed with this cinematic video.
This cinematic plays WAAY better than it did off my old 2008 PC. Back then I had to shut everything off, including the antivirus to get it to run. There was no frustration like playing for half an hour then having it crash only to remember I forgot to save my progress. Just one or two 'rage-quits' there. Lol
I prefer the strige from Netflix. Very vericeral, scaring. But damn ... this cinematic will never get old oO

What was more realistic? Wtf id that suppose to mean?
This cinematic showcases word to word what Sapkowski wrote, how he meant to showcase Geralt as professional.
What's not realistic in being true to canon?
Netrunner Not really. Geralt was almost killed facing the Striga. His throat was ripped out! The cinematic wasn’t really true to the book.
@@rickyevans2697 Because it ended at the exact moment where he got ripped out?
Ricky Evans he reks the strigga an then goes to check on her after hed pummeled her and that’s when he gets said scar.
I like this much better than the show. It's way more accurate to what the short story in the book describes and doesn't make Geralt look half dead from the first two minutes. Sure, he doesn't jump buildings but at least I can compare my imagination with this illustration unlike the show that just made into a horror film.

Netflix: Striga tosses Geralt around without using her deadlies weapons
