The last game of the tournament was absolutely nuts. Randall meaningfully intervened multiple times. There were several stock-saving offstage meteor cancels and techs. There was an f-smash read. Shy Guys both caused Junebug to miss an up air at 21:00 and helped Junebug to safely stall out his recovery at 22:22. Also, Junebug's neutral in game one of set two was *chef's kiss*.
It seems that Melee does, in deed, go a whole lot deeper than what people could imagine. Insanely sick by Junebug! GG's to Salt and June!
Man what a testament to how good June is at this game, and really to the viability of dk. These games were right, and salt’s punish game is one of the best in melee especially against dk. I don’t know how you can really argue dk can’t win a major, though idk if it will happen anytime soon. When June won xanadu you could argue it was a fluke or an undeveloped meta, but when he continues getting results *this* good while top players have undeniably learned how to play against dk and respect the matchup, how can you even argue

@@saffyonthebeat2447 it’s not an unwinnable matchup but yeah, sure, sheik is a hard obstacle to dk, just as she is to yoshi and pika; yoshi is definitely a better character, pika is probably so, but I also think the representation of those two characters is much better than that of dk and we’re still seeing dk win in his worse matchups (I mean, falcon is probably up there with sheik and this was a blowout against one of his best reps)

Huge congrats to junebug for getting the bracket reset and winning, but I'm going to have to disagree with falcon being one of DK's worst matchups. neither character has projectiles, so DK doesn't get camped, DK can 0-death and edgeguard falcon easily, falcon doesn't have any frame 1 punish moves like fox or falco do so DK can slip in an up b to get out of pressure, DK is heavy so the timing to combo him from grab is tight for falcon, and DK can scrap with him really well. Given it's still a bad matchup since falcon still has a wicked punish game against him (as he does against the rest of the cast) but I think sheik, fox, samus, puff, and falco all are significantly worst matchups for him because he either can't deal with the projectiles, or can't combo them as easily.

Don’t listen to most commentators for actual Melee knowledge lol, they rarely know what theyre talking about I figured out. Unless they specifically play the MU themselves, HMW comes to mind where he actually knows good MU knowledge with Falco/Fox but yea when neither of the commentators play the characters on the screen they wont know much about it.

1:25 ... just to throw it out there for future commentary, dk up b has a hit box above and behind his head and low in front of his feet. it's just that people are used to not wanting to be in front of shields in lag, but dk can punish hitting the back of his shield uniquely well.

I hear it too, but nipple doesn't have a different sfx unless modded in, and looking at the stomp it doesn't seem to be a nipple spike. So it's a mystery indeed why it played that sound

It was nowhere hear the chest though, Falcon’s foot beamed the top of DK’s face clean, so there’s no chance it would’ve been that hitbox

21:48 it looks like the knee landed on the getup endlag & pretty much immediately after hitstun it looks like dk kb canceled as if landing, though i don't recall your collision point being able to land cancel if it's maybe off the ground during the animation?
This looks like SDI down. I don’t know the specifics of it but when you hold down at low percents during an action you can greatly reduce your hitstun. I think it works by having a move hit you into the air but you ASDI down to land immediately after leaving hit lag so you enter the landing animation instead of hitstun. I might be spewing fake knowledge but that’s how I understand it

I think something that melee commentary need to implement with match ups you're not experienced in is to default more to play by play. It minimizes misinformation and keeps it honest. More play by play for mid/low tiers please. No hate just productive criticism 🎉🎉🎉
