Ivan Rodriguez and Yadiel Molina top if not the best catchers in history. And a proud Puerto Rican saying it. The catcher dynasty started with Benny Santiago and Sandy Alomar, this 2 are by far the best that island has produced.
Another dynamic part of Pudge's game I didn't see in this video was his quick release to 1st base. He back picked so many runners, he changed the game. Opposing teams had to adjust when they played against him. He was so quick to 1st base, you were out if you were leaning.
For those bringing Yadi to this discussion. Pudge Rodriguez is a 13x Gold Glover. Has a higher caught stealing % than Yadi. Has more seasons with 50+% caught stealing than Yadi. Committed less errors and passed balls than Yadi. Has more double plays as a catcher than Yadi. All of that while catching more games behind the plate than Yardi. Pudge Rodriguez is unmatchable defensively as a catcher. The only thing Yadi was better than Pudge was commanding the pitchers.
Forgot how many teams he played for. Great plays here but my favourites were when he threw behind runners at first base. His pickoff was faster than most pitchers.
GOAT defensive catcher. Like he was so good you couldn’t even be mad as an opposing fan. For the younger generation try to imagine if Yadier Molina wasn’t a giant crybaby
These plays are awesome, but just watching Pudge catch a game was like physical poetry. Whenever I watched him play, I was more interested in seeing him catch than the pitcher pitch. He was just so smooth and fluid in all of his movements.
Rangers vs. Royals in the Ballpark at Arlington. A very young Johnny Damon had just stolen 2nd on Pudge and, full of bravado, started taking HUGE leads toward 3rd. Pudge picked him off of second. Wish that one was in here.
And there's been some great defensive catchers in baseball history, but the thing about Pudge was that he was a legit middle of the order bat, he wasn't a one way guy. He'd beat you on both ends.
Please make a Tim Lincecum 2007-2008 start by start highlight reel. I want to see every out he gets. And throw in a high strikeout start from that time too please 🙏🏾
His value is today's game would be tremendous. Most catchers now couldn't throw out runners if their lives depended on it. And pitchers don't have unlimited check pitches to first anymore.
I had a detroit tigers pudge jersey i kid you not almost everytime i wore that jersey i had good luck til this day i have no idea what happened to that jersey
Did Pudge ever pitch an inning or two? I can’t remember. If he didn’t, it would’ve been interesting to see how he would’ve been on the mound. He was a very accurate thrower.
Lots of realky great catchers...they all have rocket arms....but most steals are the kead the got iff the pitcher....a lot if Major League pitchers do not hold runners close enough and sre too slow with pitch delivery......EOD..
When he was briefly with the Yankees I was excited about that but he only stayed for that season then he left I was upset because sorry to say he was a way way better cather than Jorge posada who was never a good defense cather but a very good offense cather so I figured pudge can handle all the defense part and posada the offense part I thought good thinking on the Yankees getting him so they won't steal on the Yankees while pudge was there I'm sure no one ran on him while he was a Yankee he had to much respect in the American league at that time what an arm i mean never saw anyone steal safety and make it to 2nd base with pudge catching many well known players ran on him and he threw them all out unbelievable 🙂👍

I remember watching Ivan Rodriguez growing up , a Texas Rangers icon and baseball ⚾️ legend forever.👏
Pudge, Ryan, and Griffey all in the same highlight. Wow.
Henderson and alomar 🔥

Pudge was a better hitter too
OK I get it Pudge was better than Yadier. But guess what he's going to the hof too.
I’m a cards fan and a huge Molina fan. But this post is accurate.
He's throwing out Hall of famers Left and right.waoo
Was a clutch hitting machine in the 03 postseason. That play at the plate in the divisional round against the giants! Chef kiss!

3rd greatest player of the last 30 years(behind Pujols & Arod)
@@tatertots0046bonds more than doubled pudge’s WAR & HRs. he also leads him in hits, average, obp, slugging, pretty much everything
@@tatertots0046possibly the most braindead baseball take ever
@@philip_pasthing7297 of course Bonds is greater but he started in the mid 80s. Different generation. Also WAR means nothing for catchers
You out your mind I love em both but NOBODY touches yadi defensively
Anyone wanna talk about the play at home where wade boggs became a fidget spinner or is it just me 😂
Literally he goes WEEEE
Purge had HOF defense & an awesome bat too! Greatest backstop in Ranger history💪😎👍
I watched Pudge catch Nolan Ryan at the OLD Arlington Stadium. SUCH GREATNESS! Man, those were the days, as a kid!
These plays are awesome, but just watching Pudge catch a game was like physical poetry. Whenever I watched him play, I was more interested in seeing him catch than the pitcher pitch. He was just so smooth and fluid in all of his movements.
Pudge was a badass
Puerto Rico the catchers factory

Nuestro Iván Rodriguez 🇵🇷
He took steroids though.

Absolute cannon of an arm! Don’t even run on Pudge! He could throw you out on his knees!🤯💪🏻
Cannon and his time out of the squat is so damn fast.
He absolutely revolutionized the position
Pudge caught Stephen Strasburg's first game. I had the honor of watching it live. What a great player.
Greatest catcher of all time no question
Johnny bench was better
@Big-three492 , Bench, Yogi, Cochrane, and others paved the road for today's catchers like Pudge to walk on
3rd greatest player of the last 30 years(behind Pujols & Arod)
Even if steroids inflated his offensive numbers. His defense was so incredible I'd have to agree.
@@Big-three492not hardly.
Back then there was no video replay or challenges, if those happened today, I bet managers would be looking at them.
And there's been some great defensive catchers in baseball history, but the thing about Pudge was that he was a legit middle of the order bat, he wasn't a one way guy. He'd beat you on both ends.
I like that he throws out both Posada and Henderson in the same video.
Why anyone traded him is well beyond my train of thought
Money
Badge of honor to throw that legend out. Now Rickey can say he was thrown out by a legend too
My son watches video of him. He liked his game behind the dish. He is aggressive just like Pudge was.
Awesome player watched him live so many times. I didn’t see Yogi play but he was AWESOME
1:29 “Nice tag by Dicky Thong . . . He unloads on it”
Amazingly the marlins were able to score him on that one year deal (‘03 championship team), not sure how that happened
Marlins Pudge is the MLB version of Raptors Kawhi Leonard. One year, one ring.
one night stand
I got to see him catch plenty of games back at old rangers stadium sitting in the cheap seats
If ever a number was retired for one year on a team it would be due to his 2003 Marlins year.
7:32 😂 look at that jump. How lol😅
At 3:51 "he's out by a mile"😂
He is the ultimate best of the best Cather he tries the ball from his neece like all others !
Pudge was the GOAT defensively. He and Johnny Bench. Bench reinvented the position and could hit and hit for power. Pudge stood on Bench's shoulders.
PUDGE 🐐RODRIGUEZ👌🏽
5:06 "Wow" says it all..
“He’s a dead puppy!”

Pudge so damn good
Roids made him better than what he actually was
I had a detroit tigers pudge jersey i kid you not almost everytime i wore that jersey i had good luck til this day i have no idea what happened to that jersey
Un receptor como ningun otro. Leyenda con los Texas Rangers, campeón de Serie Mundial con los Marlins, Guante de Oro.
I would record rangers games on the vcr and just watch him behind the plate over and over. I wanted to play like him so bad
Pug one of my favorite Rangers of all time
Johnny Bench. 🐐
Ivan is the hamberger grill ! You are throwing your self in the grill !
Love Pudge. His statue looks weird. Griffin Jr was safe at 2nd
not me watching this while listening to "another one bites the dust by queen"
GOAT!!!

They better stop playin around with pudge. Threw a guy out from his knees is crazy
Goat!
When he won a chip for the marlins he made me live baseball

Fantástico
Boggs breakdancing at home 🤣
Yadi wasn't bad, but he was a big crybaby and got pretty out of shape compared to Pudge.
You don't run on pudge
Love Griffey, but running on the battery of Ryan and Pudge...really?
Reason I played catcher. Why you would ever try to steal 3rd on him is beyond me. He threw as hard as a pitcher.
Dang!!
Griffey looks safe

Junior was safe 😂
I don’t know why they attempted to steal bases on him 😂
It was always him and Mike piazza
I wish they would of added picking off nick Johnson at 3rd in the world series
Where are his PEDs? 😂
Exaclty... so obvious he took roids but lowkey flew under the radar
Goat catcher. However, a bunch of dudes were safe. Watch it slower.
💪 Cannon.....
Wow he took out Ricky Henderson?
People biased and with blinders don't want to see and/or acknowledge what 's on record.
My C1
instant replay back then some of those runner were safe! wow!
How many career throw outs for stealing does Pudge have ?
EL CABALLO!!!!!!
why do they call him Pudge but have his name show "Ivan"? i never understood why.
Pudge was Carlton Fisk's nickname. Always assumed it was a passing of the torch.
@BubbaStylefly oh okie. thanks for explaining it for me.

Steroids tho
Steeerrrroooiids!!! Total cheater
I grew up watching pudge, definitely the G.O.A .T at catcher!!!
