Wow, I've looked at a lot of tutorials for the best way to do a roll strum and a muted strum and yours is by far the most simple, and short explanation. This really helped me, thank you! :D
This is the best video showing a few ukulele strumming technique. Anyone can learn from this young lady. The ukulele appears to be a Fender (as I have tried a few of them in local Guitar Center), same look. I play a tenor that I built myself (all solid mahogamy) and it sounds as good as the one in this video.
1:51- the mute is accomplished by using a slight palm mute for strings that would be left open (C =3 open strings G C E... ) for a Bmaj there are no open strings when playing a barre chord at second fret... the mute comes from strumming right hand while lifting pressure off the left hand fingering while keeping contact with string and then applying more pressure for notes/chords wanted to be heard. Hence -- no need to push down with right hand... should feel like a snare drum shuffle that adds rhythm structures ...notice how when explained it was said but when played it was not incorporated... just sayin.. good video and good practice... my students seem to over compensate for the “palm mute” because it is odd... (however once playing it becomes second nature) Also the Roll can be over extenuated when playing Hawaiian music.. you on island come and say hello!!! We teach Uke on bay front in Hilo, HI! Aloha
Very pleasing video. Your outfit is striking and your instructions are the best I have found. Thank you Do you have some contemporary songs you could demonstrate?
