Thanks for this video. Great sounds! I've been messing with microcassettes for awhile, but I never thought to make a loop tape. FYI "Certron" M60 microcassettes have 4 screws which make the disassembly much easier.
How on earth do you get exactly the right amount of tension to get the wheels to grip the tape? There's barely any contact and almost no friction if it's even a little too loose, and if it's too tight then the tape won't budge.
Wonderful tutorial. Very useful, and the process is shown so clearly. I was thinking about making a microcassette tape loop for a while, so this will motivate me to finally do it. Thank you for sharing you knowledge!
You've inspired me to try this and it was easier than I had anticipated. Thanks! Also - you wouldn't think so but microcassette tape is the same width as regular cassette tape, so if you want to experiment with different tape quality you could use regular cassette tape in the micro housing.
Thanks for this video. I recently picked up 3 different dicta phones and my favorite is the Olympus. It has a good internal mic, 4 speed settings and a clear tape cover. The Sanyo I have is less defined and has more motor noise and the Sony is in between. The worst part about the Olympus is the 2.5mm jacks. Don’t know why they went with those.
finally someone bit the bullet and made this! quick question - how do you go about erasing prerecorded material? leave it on record? cause it seems to just sound on sound record

Thanks for this tutorial! Been wanting to give this a try.
Great comparative photo of the tape thicknesses between 60 VS 90 min cassettes. I wasn't aware of this and bought some 90 min cassettes for music. They are way to hissy for me! Like ultra-annoying lo-fi! I'll get rid of them and stick with 60 min max!
Hi there, Can I start a recording after I have tinkered the loop cassette, or does the recording / sound have to be recorded on the tape beforehand? I had tried to first build the loop cassette and then make a recording, but I always heard a crack when the recording stopped! Can you tell me how to do it right thanks in advance Regards
I tried to build one by my own, but somehow the wheels are moving, but the tape does not. Maybe the 12,6 cm are still too wide or something? Does anyone has any tips for me? Thanks a lot
I had the same problem. I think that my tapeloop was too far. Also, I didn't glue the tape together very well, so a small piece of tape got stale and kept getting stuck.
@@gertschmidt932 I do not know the English name. In Germany we say paketband (or something like that). But this is comparatively thick and inflexible. I think that if I want to make more tapeloops, I should switch to thinner tape. I have not measured the cassette tape, so I can not tell you how much I have taken...
Hello, I have a lack of ideas to be able to record sounds on the cassette, how can I get those sounds? What sound source do you use to record on cassette? Thank you
@@projectnull Believe me, I get it. I've gone through plenty of periods of inactivity, including this year-not making as much music as I wanted to although I am slowly picking it up again. And I understand you not wanting to release stuff you aren't satisfied with. Whenever you do decide to release something I'll be here watching it. Good luck with everything else, its been a rough year for everyone to say the least.

These little beauties are great for demonstrating wow and flutter!
Have you considered putting in thicker standard cassette tape? It is the same width. You could even try metal.
Great to see m/cass loops are gaining popularity, wish this tutorial was around when I started making them haha!
awesome tutorial and demo of all the dictophones. really useful video to start out on micro-cassettes

Really nice, thanks for the video. It was great how you filmed it so close up, it must have made it pretty tricky.

I FREAKING LOVE THIS CHANNEL HOW IS IT THIS SMALL
A newbie question. how do you get that perfect looped sound? how do you know when to start record and stop record
Excellent work, sir.

Awesome video. Really enjoyed it and the resulting tones too.

This was fantastic! New sub here.
I got lucky with one of my microcassetes. The Olympus XB60 has screws!
it has screws and i don't hav the screwdriver to remove the screws

Very nice tutorial and the overview! Any recommendations on the dictaphones with line-in?
How would I go about putting a line input into my dictaphone?
Did you find a solution? (3 years later)
✨👍✨
does anyone sell one of these tape loop casettes?
This is just beautiful !!
wow looks pretty great!

@@Piggeldi0 What kind of tape (the sticky one) did you use? and how long (cm) have you made your tape-strip?

Hey, which cable are you using to record into your cassette?
Wow this looks like it takes patience to make :P
thank you!
Awesome tutorial man!! :-)
great job!

Any public domain music coming from an FM radio makes a great source.
Where were you before I made that dozen of tries? 😅
do any of your microcassette tapes tend to coil up? I can't work with any of mine because of this.,..
@@projectnull what do you do to keep 'em in place? it's drivin me crazy haha
I swear man I’m having so many issues!!! Let me know if you find out
@@poopsack199 making the loops the right tension is the key I think. Very difficult haha
wow awesome cool job :D
hey not sure why but my tape won’t turn
I have this same issue. The pinch roller is too aggressive and won’t let the seam pass through. It just sticks instead.
@@guerrilladigital i fixed the problem by making it a more perfect size with a better seam
super finicky and took me many many tries
You should post more.
