There is a story about Boris Yeltsin visiting the US in the 1980s. He was the 2nd highest ranking official in the USSR at the time. Part of the tour was to visit an American supermarket. He was so amazed by all the food he did not believe it was real. He told the tour guides that this was just show for and he was not fooled by American propaganda. He asked to be brought to a different super market one that was not planned for the tour. When he visited the 2nd super market it had all the same foods and fully stocked shelves. Someone needs to send these guys to San Diego to visit the Midway. A retired aircraft carrier turned into a museum. You can walk through the entirety of the ship. Its awesome.
"Three Carriers are enough to start a war." Thing is... Carriers are never alone. And they can be anywhere in the world in about 8-10 days. A carrier strike group (CSG) is an operational formation composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, usually an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers or frigates, and a carrier air wing of 65 to 70 aircraft. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. Trust me, KJU don't want no smoke. That's why he hasn't popped off his bottle rocket yet.
"Three carriers are enough to start a war" And against North Korea, also enough to end it. Then go start a war against a comparable power Then end that one too

I'd be more thrilled with them visiting Two actual U.S. bases (Ft Hood being one, Norforlk being the other), and one active (Patrolling) Nimitz Class Carrier for 3 days each! Being around the soldiers, facilities, and equipment would be an eye opener!

Watching this makes me want to see them experiencing the awe of a carrier in person. Not even as a bragging thing, just because its a legitimately amazing experience to be on a massive floating airport.
I've toured the USS Midway Museum Ship in San Diego. Its 100-ft shorter than the current Nimitz class, but is still enormous in its own right. Its impossible to understand the size of it without actually being on it. And walking on the flight deck or the hanger deck seals the deal.
@@Carrack090 One can always count on Americans to boast about their military strength. Sure why not you get what you pay for and the US spends a higher percentage of their GDP than any other developed nation. So, do you have free healthcare? Affordable higher education? Didn´t think so. It´s a matter of priorities. And for these N-Korean soldiers "Ice cream" was "unimaginable". never even see a photo of an aircraft carrier. And in NK the sight of one aircraft carrier was considered "an emergency". So yeah the US has overwhelming military power: 1) No need to rub it in 2) Never underestimate an indoctrinated adversary (in war), defending his country, especially if it´s not in your region (Vietnam, Afganistan, Syria..)
I served on the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower between 2011-2017... Trust me there's sooooooo much more these guys would get a kick out of if they toured a carrier in person. It really helps give a sense of the true size of the ship. When I first arrived on board it took nearly 6 months before I knew how to get everywhere on the ship without getting lost. Are you aware it is powered by Westinghouse A2W nuclear reactors? Btw, just started watching these videos and I enjoy the commentary you guys give, keep up the good work!
I served in VFA-83 as an AO from 2018 till last month and deployed on Mighty Ike in 2020 and 2021, now "Iron" Ike, with VFA-83. I was only able to figure out the essential spaces for squadron personnel and rarely got the opportunity to truly explore the ship. I know there is so much more to it than I know already. The squadron spaces alone, the steel (not elastic) arresting cables, and the non-skid (not rubber) flight deck and hangar deck, would blow their minds
I visited the Kittyhawk when it was tied up in Alameda. Stepping from the dock to the deck I was immediately struck by how much more stable and solid the deck was. It felt like being on the roof of a building.
It would be easy if they can just find an active duty sailor and ask if they can give these 2 a tour. But i'm pretty sure they need special permission to film on a ship from the higher ups.

@Samuel Prince Absolutely not😂. Except for unique combat related missions, every aircraft that takes off and lands on a carrier is Navy owned and operated.
@Samuel Prince Yeah gotta agree with Valsgarde. The aircraft on Carriers are completely the Navy's. US Navy and Marine Corps. combined would be the 2nd largest "Air Force" in the world if they were considered as one.

Having done a few deployments on aircraft carriers, it is nice to see the awe on their faces. I have been out of the Navy for over a decade now, and this video reminds me of how amazing it is to see aircraft landing and taking off from a ship, which I kinda took for granted after the first 6 month deployment. While it might not be in the forefront of every sailors mind at all times, one of the reasons we were out there was to protect the freedom of America and to show the world that we can protect ourselves. I only wish that more people from oppressed countries like North Korea could have the option of becoming Americans and being treated as a human instead of a robot. 02:30 For anyone interested in the actual details, there's more to it than that. On takeoff, the aircraft are attached to a sliding mechanism in the deck powered by steam that catapults them forward to greatly enhance their acceleration (it's just called the steam catapult). They do certainly apply engine power for a bit before taking off, but a substantial portion of the takeoff velocity is provided by the steam catapult mechanism itself, which brings them up to well over 100 knots using 15-40 or so tons of force (varies by ship model). The arresting cables are used only for landing, to quickly slow the aircraft down. There are three or four of them, and the goal is to _not_ get either the first or last. Not because any of them do a better job, but because hitting the first or last cable means you're not very precise in landing.

This is so weird. I grew up in Hampton Roads, so I was always around military craft of all types. I remember as a kid getting to go on a Nimitz class carrier for the first time, and thinking it was *smaller* than I expected.
Landing and stopping is done with a steel cable with a breaking system under the deck and manned to adjust tolerances and weights. When the plane lands it has full power going in the engines in case if misses the cable and has to take back off and do a go around. There are 3 cables that the pilot aims for. If one cable should snap, then the force is so great that if anyone is standing around it will literally cut them in half.

You should show them "cities at sea: how air craft carriers work", gives a more in depth look at just how massive carriers are, and how threatening they can be
That would be some huge tail hook and I wonder how bouncy the landing would be because you'd have to have 'elastic string' (rubber cable) about the the thickness of a truck.
It is not an “elastic string” that the aircraft’s hook catches. Metal cables and there are mechanisms below the deck involved. Don’t know what rubber thing the narrator is talking about. There is a catapult mechanism that launches them. No secret. Probably improved since Vietnam era. Most dangerous place on a carrier is the flight deck. Hopefully cable construction has improved. Nets around a carrier are there to catch crew blow off or who jump away when a cable broke. Won’t go into the gorie things. The jet he road in is one of the Navy’s “Blue Angels”, a air team that participates in air shows at mostly Navy bases. Ex was on the now retired “Enterprise”. Probably a lot of improvements on the newer carriers.
Them getting excited about the ice cream reminds me of a story told by an ice cream maker manufacturer. During WWII, every US carrier would have one of their ice cream makers, but the smaller ships wouldn't. So, during the Pacific campaign the carriers made it known that if a ship recovered one of their downed pilots, the ship would get a huge drum of ice cream as thanks. You can imagine the effect this had on how quickly pilots were recovered! Eventually they had to be told to calm it down after two destroyers nearly collided in a race to recover a pilot.
This is my old ship. I was one of the guys that wore a green shirt on the flight deck. Yellow shirts handle the aircraft taxi, chain and chalk, Purple shirts fuel the aircraft, Green shirts control the catapults and arresting gear (the cables that catch the hook hanging off the back of the aircraft), The catapults that shoot the aircraft off the deck are steam powered and very loud. White shirts are QA they usually make sure everything on the flight deck is safe and productive. Red shirts handle ordinance (they move bombs around). And for the life of me i can't remember what the blue shirts do. Yes we were fed very well. Every new guy out of boot camp has to work in the galley for a month i think, that may have changed. I personally served pie the whole time. Strawberry rhubarb, cherry or apple. After that i worked some of the hardest days of my life, not only on the flight deck where the hours are long but the work under deck is often much more difficult. That being said i also saw parts of the world i would not have seen otherwise and wouldn't change it for anything. In hindsight I wish i would have stayed in longer.
There were a number of factual errors by the narrator. Navy plane are launched from decks by a catapult powered by steam or an electromagnetic ram. Navy planes have a tail hook that catches an arresting wire when they land. There is nothing elastic or rubber in the systems. We currently have 13 aircraft carriers which is more than all the other world navies combined.
elastic doesnt mean rubber or plastic...it means stretchable and absorbing. how it unspools after the catch could be misinterpreted as stretchy. so poor choice of word based on common definition in the u.s., but not incorrect really.
I'd given anything just to know what the US is hiding up their sleeve. I feel like China and Russia know damn well that there's more than meets the eye themselves. It's why they're trying to stall and expand their economies rather than take any meaningful military action. What they know of our military demonstrates a clear and monstrous advantage. What they don't know could end any potential war just as it begins.
@Avery Bullock basically any of the gulf states and most of the southern east coast states, not to mention the landlocked states connected to said coastal states. BBQ is quite popular all around the states, but these few states take the cake.

Our family was in Hawaii on vacation when the Abraham Lincoln docked as we were waiting for the Pearl Harbor memorial tour. It was the first time my kids had ever seen a carrier up close and personal and they were completely blown away by its immense size. Seeing one up close from dockside is the only way to fully appreciate just how ginormous they truly are! "Three Carriers are enough to start a war."
Thing is...

And until 1992, they ALL had nuclear weapons aboard.

And against North Korea, also enough to end it.
Then go start a war against a comparable power
Then end that one too
@@machinist7230 I'm fairly confident they still all carry nukes; it only makes sense. I was stationed aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt from '85 to '89. It was always "cannot confirm nor deny presence", which always sounds like "we have them, but don't want to admit it".

I served on the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower between 2011-2017... Trust me there's sooooooo much more these guys would get a kick out of if they toured a carrier in person. I served in VFA-83 as an AO from 2018 till last month and deployed on Mighty Ike in 2020 and 2021, now "Iron" Ike, with VFA-83.

I laughed way hard at the "elastic string" caption
I think it was lost in translation.
I love how it was translated as "I didn't get to ride on *the* airplane". Hilarious implication
The genuine admiration of the science and mechanics making such a fortress of war possible is pretty moving.
This is my old ship. I was one of the guys that wore a green shirt on the flight deck.
Yellow shirts handle the aircraft taxi, chain and chalk,
Purple shirts fuel the aircraft,
Green shirts control the catapults and arresting gear (the cables that catch the hook hanging off the back of the aircraft), The catapults that shoot the aircraft off the deck are steam powered and very loud.
They reacted to an episode of Dude Perfect😂
Honestly, Dude Perfect should be shown this video and pony up to show these guys a bit more of the world.
Tell them!!!
elastic doesnt mean rubber or plastic...it means stretchable and absorbing. how it unspools after the catch could be misinterpreted as stretchy. so poor choice of word based on common definition in the u.s., but not incorrect really.
@Otium Borealis translation error maybe
Also not to mention that statistically the US Navy"s air power IS greater than the US Air Force.
@@foreignmilk they are steel cables connected to a hydraulic system that absorbs the momentum from the plane
understand that this really is old tech.. the most deadly weapons are classified and not available on a your tube video.
This was really old tech in a really old video.
By their reaction to a steam catapult we can surmiset that the Kims banned Gundam the same way Marcos banned all giant robot shows.
Now feed them some real US BBQ....
@Avery Bullock I would say start with North Carolina first. Then go from there...
They had the army veteran lady, Kim Jong-Ah, try BBQ, the other video
@Avery Bullock basically any of the gulf states and most of the southern east coast states, not to mention the landlocked states connected to said coastal states. BBQ is quite popular all around the states, but these few states take the cake.
That pilot is a Blue Angel
Cmon theres gotta be someone with navy connections to get these two guys on an aircraft carrier for a day. Don't know which will blow there minds more, the flight deck or the mess?
Well failing the American ones you could try getting them onto our new British one, HMS Queen Elizabeth for a visit instead, her carrier strike-group's headed their direction next year anyway after all...
Jax Taylor I was mostly being tongue in cheek, these two defectors might get picked up by the MP's just for driving by a US military installation. Lol
I want these guys to come train with us!
Thank u for ur service I'm not even American but great respect
Can I ask u something??
We would have to feed them for weeks to get the strength to hold a m4
@@taskforcealto never mind a fully-loaded British SA-80A3 lol, good rifles those (problems the earlier ones had have been fixed now) but got some serious weight to them
@RS Gaming, sure.
Show them some of the safety films from aircraft carriers. Deck crew being "sucked" into A-6 inlets or EA-6 is always good. The Forrestal incident gives an idea of the hazards.
Maybe we should just schedule an up close and personal dockside tour for a few thousand (well guarded) NK soldiers and then remind them that we have 11 of them and 5 even bigger ones currently under construction. As Teddy Roosevelt said, “speak softly and carry a big stick!” 😆
"I couldn't imagine aircraft taking off and landing from a ship".
They were told it was called an Aircraft Carrier, right? They think it just drove aircraft around for sightseeing missions lol?
You have to consider the culture of giving things fantastic names and descriptions in North Korea. Hell they think (thought?) North Korea having a larger number of subs as some decisive factor w/o realizing that most of their sub fleet was subpar 25 years ago when/if they were new!!! Hell one of their national treasures is an old U.S. ship that was stranded there. They claim it as a "War prize"! lol
Maybe they just thought they MOVED aircraft and fuel, maintenance crew around to our different bases.
@@Forced2DoThis1 Ahhh, true. Hard to consider how much context really matters in such a simple phrase. That's a culture that we, thankfully, can't begin to really comprehend.
They should check out one of the big carriers.
I think it would be *amazing* for them to be able to be able to experience, first hand, an aircraft carrier! I wish I could make it happen!
So the thing everyone needs to realize is this is just a Navy recruitment video. Nobody is going to admit it, but it is.
Yeah, but who cares?
So was Top Gun. Still a good film though
@@talltroll7092 talk to me goose
It's old AF and was on some _"Most Amazing [insert thing here]"_ show. I remember seeing it on TV years ago. Trust me, the Navy has plenty of money to air _actual_ TV commercials, which it often does.
I kinds want to invite these guys to Pesicola just so they can see the blue angles up close.
They would show them dude perfect 😂 doesn’t get more American than that
1:33 North Korean's think three aircraft carriers are enough to start a war! Damn....wait until you see the 16 others 🤣
I don't think you're around to see the 16 others by that point.
and to think, this is JUST the navy, there is like the whole actual Air Force waiting and the Army just chilling, and now we could probably beat NK with just drone strikes because they wouldnt know what the hell was attacking them
Good good to see you guys.
“No it’s for ice cream” that definitely was just food dude😂
I would love to see their reaction to the United States Marine Corp boot camp crucible, the full video.
Pretty sure that's basically life in NK.
Rocking the 90s movie and rock star hair cut. Good job
Thanks to whoever said he looks like a rockstar. He’s not being himself anymore.
Or, plot twist, his exposure to freedom has let him finally be himself.
@@Gottaculat lol yeah no he tied his hair up because he didn’t want to get those comments smh shame on those people
He wears the sunglasses to hide his identity to protect his family in the north.... and his name is an alias. It was in a video on his own channel
@@Userhandle7384 true indeed.
If there is anyone reading this from the ROK AF then give these young men a ride! I'm certain the NKPA monitors this site and I'm certain they'll be apprehensive after seeing the strength of the South!
Those 2 seem really genuine. It's great to see.
" An elastic string " slows them down. More like 1.5 inch thick steel cable ....
Why can't we just call it the 3 wire or the 1 wire cause if u did work on the roof u know that's what all the pilots are catching all the time lol
@@josephbernard7705 No shit. My birthing compartment was right below the 3 wire. Back in the day when A7s were still in use, their lack of decent speed brakes make it sound like someone was throwing a UPS truck on the roof every 10 minutes. I'm surprised I got any sleep during flight ops.
