Ugh, I don't know why (I have some ideas) but guided reading was ALWAYS my weakest area as a teacher :( how long do you typically spend at guided reading? Do you do more than one group?
Guided reading is my favourite. It depends on the class but I typically have 4-5 differentiated groups. I try to see all of them every day, but if I have to miss one group I miss the highest. I spend the longest amount of time with my lowest group (about 15 minutes) and less with my higher ones. Lower ones need to practice sight words, be front-loaded with the words in the book and then read the book altogether practicing whatever strategy we're focusing on at the moment. Afterwards they self assess to see how they did. Higher ones read in their heads and answer questions about the text. I teach what Americans would call kindergarten/1st grade. Hope this is of some help.
12 kids!!! I'd be the "Yoda" of Teachers!! 22 kindergarteners in 1 room is mayday. No teaching takes place, routines are screwed and the worst is there's never time for anything. 22 soon to be 30😭😭😭 sadly teaching has become a drag!
27 + in my SoCal kindergarten! People hear that and say "So it's half day?" noooo, whole day. "So you have nap time?" noooo. "So you have help, an aide or someone?" noooo, just me, all day. "27 kids!?!"
What' s the use of spelling the words? If they had been taught the phoneme/grapheme correspondences, they'd have been able to read the words themselves...Can't get the meaning if you can't read the words!
@@gregsmedley Absolutely great teachers set up structures before the work begins so students know how to conduct themselves during small group sessions. This is essential for city teachers who lack for assistance, parent volunteers, or any support outside their own skills.
I want to be a kindergartener again in Mr. Greg's class because he makes kindergarten learning FUN
I like this teacher's systematic approach. I have six in a small group and it is a much different dynamic than working with 2 kids.
Thank you! I moved from 4th grade to Kindergarten and First grade and I have needed some guidance! Your videos are amazing.
I really like that the book, sight word writing practice and sentence all link! Very cool!
Your classroom is so quiet! How do you do it????
They are precious
Poor lil kid, by the door is lost!! 😁🥰
Omg I'm sitting here watching this almost to the end... lol.. with no kids around. How do I request you for my child next year?
I have a question, what week of school is this?
It is January 13, 2015
keep going

Are all of your guided reading groups this small?
Nicely done! Where did you get those dry erase circles? Did you make them?
you can print them and then laminate them if you can't find them anywhere (late response, but you might still need it lol)

30 kids!? What?? Texas has 22 limit but the school may sign a waiver to exceed the limit...
@@erinc6997 25 kindergarteners in New York with no para. Just you and God.

they have to know how to spell the words so they can write them in the future
He's good Teacher, but he does not have a lot of kids in his room.
Classrooms these days have a lot of students, and it's hard to handle them all.
tgckelvin1 Gulley you’re right. This year our class size is small. But we average 16-23. Class size doesn’t dictate how good a teacher is.
