They've been doing this for a while for all best offers. The problem I found was I wanted to to use my PayPal Credit and take the 6mo no interest option. You cannot use that when making a best offer now
It's a great change! I'm sick of non-paying buyers getting away with not only removing listings, like you said, but there's no punishment when they do it. They aren't suspended or banned by Reverb. You can't leave negative feedback for other sellers to see, and it's BS. I lost out on a 10K sale yesterday, and although I pretty much require immediate payment, they asked for two extra days to pay, which I gave to them. Over two days that my listing wasn't reaching other potential buyers. Their feedback score was 72, with 100% positive, but I had a weird feeling right from the get go with this buyer that there would be issues and I don't know why exactly. Any thoughts???
I’m a buyer and seller. As a seller, I love it. As a buyer, I love it too. Here’s why. 1. I usually pay immediately for my item anyways, but now it forces the seller to get my item out quicker as well. I want my stuff lol As a seller, I don’t have to worry about the BS and I get immediate payment. It’s a win win!
Yeah. As someone who’s been burned on Reverb like a good 7-8 times, where a buyer accepted an offer and never paid, I really appreciate this policy. Kinda convenient as a buyer, too. If I put up an offer, I’m ready to buy!
Biggest problem is Ebay gets a cut, force you to give Paypal a cut then Uncle Sam gets a cut and you get very little. If you have a complaint against a large volume seller Ebay will not listen.
As a Ebay seller of 18 years. One thing I have learned is Ebay seems to always botch things. They change things that are not broken and usually make it worse. Hopefully this new change will be error free.
eBay should be the cream of the crop but they don’t do much to stay on top of massive issues with their platform. And when they do make changes, you’re right, they’re completely half baked and useless. I wish a real competitor would come along and put some pressure on them. I thought Mercari was going to be it but that’s app is a ghost town now.
@@falcongunner33 I just had problems printing a couple labels off their "New and Improved" label software that changed a few weeks ago. Smh. I think if anyone came close to being able to compete with Ebay, ebay would buy the company and squash it. They are horrible but probably the best of the worst for small sellers.
Not sure when you stopped selling, but just so you know they have become super greedy on fees. Before you would pay fees on the price of the guitar of say $500. Now you pay fees on price+shipping+tax. So now you are paying fees on say $700. Heavy items kinda screw ya.
@@crosswalklarry Yeah I got pissed at eBay when I figured out they were taking their fees on price+shipping. That's so unfair considering I do a lot of extra packaging work for free, like bubble wrapping collectables to the point there is a low chance that it will get damaged in shipping. Like always in life, I'm never rewarded for going the extra mile for people.
Apparently this is a seller side setting that can be turned off...basically eBay turned it on for all sellers - so its causing some confusion. I think Im going to turn it off - since I don't have issues with no-payers.
Im not that bothered as a seller, but I almost never have no-pays in my categories. But as a buyer - I don't like this. I've already skipped bidding on items just because I didn't feel like checking accounts, etc. Im also less likely to bid on multiple auctions because its hard to predict how much you might need to cover.
I agree. Anytime If I make an offer for something, whether it's on eBay or anywhere else, and the buyer accepts it, I consider it to be a binding contract.
A great change. A few times selling guitars I’ve had messages saying “I bid on multiple guitars and won so I can’t buy your guitar” type messages. As a buyer I always treated it like an irl auction, if I bid I’m committing to buy. This change is how they should have set it up from the start.
People who dick around with promises of money should be booted from society. If you make an offer, you'd better be committed to handing over the cash. Period. Anything else is WITHOUT HONOR.
As someone who's sold a thing or 2 on reverb, I'm for it! I've been "offer ghosted" several times, even when responding immediately. So annoying, or they message me asking to make the transaction outside of reverb. Nope.
Both platforms suck. Fees are high, and if you sell an item(s) thats worth over $600 dollars now you need to file a 1099-K form with the federal government where before it was like 20k. Taxes on a small micro transaction plus seller fees, may as well give your item away for free.... CASH IS KING!
Huh... I'm in Germany and eBay offers here have been binding for as long as I can remember. Also there are absolutely no private seller fees at all.... there used to be some, but they got rid of that.
i have bought and sold alot of guitars on ebay and not ever had any problems either way and this goes back to like 2000. and not guitar items ive sold a ton on ebay. really never had a problem. reverb scares the crap outa me with their scam sales and you have shown me plenty. ive joined reverb but never felt comfortible buying yet!! thanks buddy for you video and posts. love all your videos. course i dont love all your guitars but you do and thats good to me. I got scammed like this last month, a guy made me an offer on my Keeley Nova Wah, but after I accepted his offer, he sent me a message saying "I'm sorry, but I went with a different pedal, so cancel my offer." I had to wait 5 days to cancel his order so I could relist it. Funny thing, though, I got a message from the same person 10 days ago, asking if I still had the pedal!
eBay needs to have popcorn auctions. That way it adds 15 minutes to the listing allowing other people to bid and preventing people from bidding at the last 5 seconds to snipe you.
I heard you mention 'buy it now price' on another post. I think that is a relief, rather, than wondering if it will sell or not sell at auction if you are a seller. As a buyer, I am no nonsense, the 'buy it now price', is what I look for as a buyer. I always think that auctions are dubious.😂🎉
This strikes me as a massive security issue. Once you’ve set up/accepted the auto payment for offers if someone then manages to gain access your account they can essentially spend your money without going through any additional payment verification/approval steps. Under the old model they would also need access to your payment method too thus limiting the impact of any access gained. Personally I like to authorise all payment Im making, even if it does make it “slower”.
It's not often ebay actually does something positive. I haven't used ebay for years to buy or sell because of their policies and fees constantly going up
I used to like the 4 day grace period when you won an auction gives you time to pay. This really helps the sellers. I don't see an upside for the buyer.
Thanks for explaining this so thoroughly. I used to sell a lot on eBay. From that perspective, I think this is an excellent policy. In the last few years I have been more of a buyer. I have always paid the moment I win an auction. From this perspective, I still think it is an excellent policy. Cheers!
As a buyer the downside is that, lets say you want to spend 2000 on a guitar that normally goes for 2500.. In the past if you found 5 sellers selling that guitar you could throw them all the same offer, and whoever accept first you buy from.. But now if the offer is binding it mean you can only throw up an bid/offer once to one seller (or you might end up with 5 guitars...), and then you have to wait for him to accept or reject the offer before you can have a go at the next. So if the seller is on vacation or takes a few days to reply, the other guitar might be gone..
The bidding process on eBay is often a scam itself. For example-and this has happened to me many times- a seller will have a price but will provide a "make offer" bid. Then when you want to place a bid, three prices will show up and you place a bid and it will kick your offer back saying you have to choose a higher price because you're out bid...but the current bid is not posted, so you have to keep bidding up but never actually know what the current highest bid is.
Whatever the current highest bid is should be posted so you'll know where you stand in the bidding process. The "make offer" post shows three prices low to high. I've hit the highest bid before and it tells me I'm out-bid, then automatically post three more higher prices . Yeah, I get it,they're driving the price up,but it gets frustrating because you don't know where the high bid is. I usually jump out then because I don't like being jacked around. If the seller wants a certain price, they need to state it and quit the click bait jive.@@cataclysmicconverter
Actually, I think it's not just the seller, but eBay as well coming up with ways to get a better price for the seller. After all, the higher the price, the more eBay makes. Almost everything is a scam nowadays and the buyer has to think along the same lines-buyer beware.
0:42 eBay is still cheaper than Reverb as far as fees go. The processing fee is built into that total of 6.35%. If your sale exceeds $7500 then there’s an additional 2.35% added.
There’s a whole other thing going on too regarding VAT. Don’t know if it’s just a post-Brexit UK tax change that has forced eBay and Reverb to take action, but both sites seem to be adding VAT to sales from UK sellers. If you’re a business, you are likely already VAT registered and can supply the site with your VAT Registration Number. But if you are a private individual selling your own surplus gear, you cannot legally apply for a UK VAT Registration Number, so cannot comply with Reverb’s new tax policy rules. To compound matters, Reverb’s tax policy page will not accept a zero % rate so you’re screwed. I believe Reverb is applying this catch-all in error and I’ve told ‘em so. Does anyone have an answer please?
I’m for it. A few months ago I did a buy now and immediately put in payment. Three days later the @*%# seller informed me he didn’t have it any more. He must have had it for sale elsewhere and was waiting to see if he got a better offer. Meanwhile I’m on pins and needles.
I found this out a few months ago or so with Ebay. It wasn't a big ticket item maybe under $30. But didn't know that if my reasonable offer got accepted then I had to buy it. Luckily I wanted it and it wasn't an expensive item. So long as you know this and are ready to buy it if your offer gets accepted then you are all good. So its kind of like poop or get off the pot. It separates the real buyers from the "fishers/ playboys/foo-foo boys" 👍
Anything that cuts back on scams is a good thing in my book. Now if they could get rid of fake reviews, make it to where it HAS to be a verified transaction matching the listing or something. Either way we can't have nice things or a trusting society because people like that, so again...ANYTHING that puts a stick in their mud is ok with me.
by preventing the taking it off the market the person making the offer cant abuse the offer system to take an offensive item off the market for example. lets say you post a guitar that has a sticker of the statue of david on it and the buyer wants to take that guitar off the market because of the statue of david sticker because of the nudity they will make an offer and let the offer acceptance time out in the mean time the listing has been removed or filtered out so it wont show up in search results. of course once the acceptance period expires the item would go back up. i think ups offers saturday delivery as well as fedex. you could just ship usps priority mail unless the item is so much that you need extra insurance witch ups offers for 50 cents per $100 of insurance + $100 that comes with the service. i thought ebay can trace the accounts? if they see 2 accounts from the same ip address they can suspect shilling.
Yup, ebay (oddly enough) FTW! I have seldom had a smooth transaction on reverb, tbh. Always some weird flake out to spoil the sale/purchase. Ebay is just a more mature platform.
I don’t know…I’m a brick and mortar guy (sorry sellers.) I can go into my local store, see what I’m buying, get to an acceptable price, and walk home with my prize. I’ve been scammed too many scams online-I’m outta’ here.
I see this as a good thing, but I also see alot of people not realising this. The payment going through and them immediately going to their bank and cancelling the transaction
What about the seller after accepting the offer, waiting until the buyer makes the payment .. then cancels on them and leave them with their money stuck in the system waiting 5-7 days not being able to even buy something else .. smart azz ...
As someone who buys and bids on my fair share of stuff on Ebay I appreciate these changes. I think it's several steps in the right direction. As a serious buyer I'm ready to buy when I make an offer, to me every monetary transaction and the things surrounding them are "opened book/closed book" issues. There are a few other things I would like to see changed too but all in due time. :)
if this is a change sitewide then i support it wholeheartedly, i work third shift and a lot of time auctions end or offers are accepted while im asleep, and i feel terrible when the seller has to wait sometimes 10 hours for payment though i will say, if they could implement a feature to prevent "bid sniping" that would make the buying experience on the site much more pleasant, countless times ive been the only bidder on something for the entire week long auction, then at the last 30 seconds someone bids and you dont have time to outbid them simply adding 5 minutes per bid would prevent that and likely lead to more profit for sellers since it will cause "bidding wars"
So…. What if the scammer accepts your bid and sells you a plastic toy guitar instead of a 59 gold top? Are they more likely to get caught? Or does EBAY cover your loss?
I think this has been a thing for a little while now.. I ran into this a few times, months ago. Maybe it was a slow rollout, or optional feature, but maybe it's a site-wide thing now? Not sure, but it's definitely a positive and will prevent "tire kickers" from wasting your time. 👍
It must be a Slow rollout as it started for me a week ago as a Buyer (Always paid anyway). The past week offers I've had I had to wait until they paid? So not sure what The issue is. Also what's stopping a would-be buyer from linking a card with insufficient funds/No overdraft etc? I prefer it as I'd always check back in a few hours then Pay asap now I just wait for a charge to pop up on my phone.
I stopped buying on eBay when they killed the Bonus Bucks program. In fact, Bonus Bucks led to quite a few impulse buys. But killing shill bidding might convince me to try auctions again.
About Fn time, Ebay! I need to look if this binding commitment is for other areas besides musical instruments. I sell a ton of professionally graded comics and vintage 80s toys to support my GAS addiction 😅 Nothing sucks more than some asshat that accepts my offer immediately, then pays when ebay kicks them in the arse. Now, anout eBay fees .......😮
I don't do a whole lot of buying guitars anymore (I already have several) but I love that EBay is doing this. I really hope Reverb does something like it soon!
Why is there a Seymour "Duncan Performer" pickup in that Gibson ? Correct me if I'm wrong but, I thought Duncan Performer was the low end line of what a Seymour pickup is...Just find that a bit odd to place such a pickup in a Gibson. I'm pretty sure you can find Duncan Performer in $500 guitars new
I too like the new format on "fleabay"...the only thing I can't stand is all the constant over loading of the Chinese junk on there. Do a search for something and you'll get a million references for crap you don't want, nor asked for!!! Or a rash of other things that don't even match what you put in a search!
As an Ebay seller , I love this new feature !! I have been stuffed around so many times by buyers . At last this is one change they have made I support
Generally if I've sent an offer I'm ready to buy it right then, so fine. However even more so, I'm throwing things on a watch list and waiting for the seller to send me offers, putting the ball in their court.
This kind of sucks if you are a person that uses gift cards. Safeway offers discounts on gas by using rewards points, and one of the best ways to quickly stack up the rewards is with gift cards. So with any type of home project or big purchase I go grab a gift card for whatever store I'll be making the purchase from. For example the $300 guitar I bid on and win through eBay, would also save me $0.30 - $1.00 PER GALLON of gas by running to Safeway and getting an eBay gift card for that purchase. Funny, because for me at least, I will be actually losing money by having to pay for auctions and offers by being forced to use the new payment method.
I stay clear of selling and buying on these platforms unless it’s a solid vendor such as a Sam ash or similar. Selling is a nightmare on these sites. This change helps.
nope - they do have the "text" that says you have to, but they don't automatically just take the payment and no other way to enforce the sale (yet.) Ebay takes it as soon as your offer is accepted / auction ends now
My only reservation with this is you should be able to nominate your funding source before each individual best offer or buy it now. Having a family ebay account, we have a few different PayPal accounts. This means we'd have to constantly add and remove our accounts. Good idea, but they need to refine it for these kinds of situations. Otherwise, it's a great move.
The new offer system from eBay might be good for the seller but I don’t see it for the buyer. In the last 6 mths I have won 4 auctions where the seller has refused to send it, obviously because it did not attain the amount they wanted. Protection for the buyer in this instance would be a better implementation!
With the payment coming through instantly - they would have to ship. If they refund your order, they will end up "losing" money in fees so this would help fight against that a little bit
Wow, I'm totally for this. I'm really only a buyer, but I honestly thought that's how it worked anyways. I've bought many things on both reverb and ebay over the years, and always just assumed if I placed a bid or an offer, I HAD to pay.... lol, silly me. This now makes me realize why sellers (usually particularly large ones) give me such immediate good feedback; I guess that it's just because I paid right away...

It separates the real buyers from the "fishers/ playboys/foo-foo boys" 👍
That’s the way Mercari works
The problem is if you opt to pay with paypal, you can't select "pay in 4" or "pay monthly" with this option...so not a good thing for some buyers.
Reverb should do this too, it's pretty annoying getting offers from non-serious person...
So helpful. Thanks for sharing!
by preventing the taking it off the market the person making the offer cant abuse the offer system to take an offensive item off the market for example.
lets say you post a guitar that has a sticker of the statue of david on it and the buyer wants to take that guitar off the market because of the statue of david sticker because of the nudity they will make an offer and let the offer acceptance time out in the mean time the listing has been removed or filtered out so it wont show up in search results.
of course once the acceptance period expires the item would go back up.
i think ups offers saturday delivery as well as fedex.
you could just ship usps priority mail unless the item is so much that you need extra insurance witch ups offers for 50 cents per $100 of insurance + $100 that comes with the service.
i thought ebay can trace the accounts?
if they see 2 accounts from the same ip address they can suspect shilling.
Yup, ebay (oddly enough) FTW! I have seldom had a smooth transaction on reverb, tbh. Always some weird flake out to spoil the sale/purchase. Ebay is just a more mature platform.
I've bought probably 100 items with the give an offer. Love it
EBay does take two or more business days to deposit your money from the sale into your checking account! I don’t ship until I receive the money!
Ive literrally never purchased any music gear on eBay... reverb is the only place I feel comfortable looking for used gear.
I don’t know why this wasn’t the regular process in the first place
I don’t know…I’m a brick and mortar guy (sorry sellers.)
I can go into my local store, see what I’m buying, get to an acceptable price, and walk home with my prize.
I’ve been scammed too many scams online-I’m outta’ here.
@Trog One correction, eBay's pricing includes the payment processing! Reverb has a separate fee, so eBay is actually cheaper!
It's stupid. What if you make an offer and the seller takes 3 or 4 days to respond and in the meantime you find one cheaper then you're screwed.
Another issue - it seems to deny sellers a chance to use their "spendable funds" for these listings. This also cuts down on my buying.
if this is a change sitewide then i support it wholeheartedly, i work third shift and a lot of time auctions end or offers are accepted while im asleep, and i feel terrible when the seller has to wait sometimes 10 hours for payment
though i will say, if they could implement a feature to prevent "bid sniping" that would make the buying experience on the site much more pleasant, countless times ive been the only bidder on something for the entire week long auction, then at the last 30 seconds someone bids and you dont have time to outbid them
simply adding 5 minutes per bid would prevent that and likely lead to more profit for sellers since it will cause "bidding wars"
What about the 12 days of Trogly Christmas shipping?🌲🎸
Here we Go!! Trogly!!! Truth is I'm a "Buy It Now" kinda a guy!
So…. What if the scammer accepts your bid and sells you a plastic toy guitar instead of a 59 gold top? Are they more likely to get caught? Or does EBAY cover your loss?
eBay caters way more to the buyer. You can't even give non-positive feedback to buyers... So they will likely nuke the seller if one did this
I think this has been a thing for a little while now..
Yeah... I liked eBay Bonus Bucks too
Honey, we don’t live here anymore and this is our new son named Greenie.
This is a real study into the paranoid world of online sales chess.
About Fn time, Ebay! I need to look if this binding commitment is for other areas besides musical instruments. I sell a ton of professionally graded comics and vintage 80s toys to support my GAS addiction 😅
Nothing sucks more than some asshat that accepts my offer immediately, then pays when ebay kicks them in the arse. Now, anout eBay fees .......😮
It's all categories, not just musical instruments.
great video thanks Trogs
I don't do a whole lot of buying guitars anymore (I already have several) but I love that EBay is doing this. I really hope Reverb does something like it soon!
_I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a DeLonge Signature ES-333 today?_
Thanks mate
It's great for sellers. Sucks for buyers. I have a product I charged for, but the seller won't send it, so im screwed.
its a no downside update tbh, im a buyer and a seller and I adore it.
Why is there a Seymour "Duncan Performer" pickup in that Gibson ? Correct me if I'm wrong but, I thought Duncan Performer was the low end line of what a Seymour pickup is...Just find that a bit odd to place such a pickup in a Gibson. I'm pretty sure you can find Duncan Performer in $500 guitars new
I see a lot more scammers coming from this and getting your money quick. I think this is a big no!!
I too like the new format on "fleabay"...the only thing I can't stand is all the constant over loading of the Chinese junk on there. Do a search for something and you'll get a million references for crap you don't want, nor asked for!!! Or a rash of other things that don't even match what you put in a search!
Finally the consumers are protected better. Took them like 10 years...
That last guitar is an old joe Bonemassa signature.. modded tho
As an Ebay seller , I love this new feature !! I have been stuffed around so many times by buyers . At last this is one change they have made I support
I am for it.
I like it as a seller. So many scammer scammers try to get you off reverb.
Awesome B roll footage.
Yeah buyer beware
I got stung with an epiphone fake 🙄
I didn’t do my due diligence properly
I stay clear of selling and buying on these platforms unless it’s a solid vendor such as a Sam ash or similar. Selling is a nightmare on these sites. This change helps.
Now if they could eliminate auction snipers…
Reverb already has this. If you make an offer then you have to pay for the item
nope - they do have the "text" that says you have to, but they don't automatically just take the payment and no other way to enforce the sale (yet.) Ebay takes it as soon as your offer is accepted / auction ends now
My only reservation with this is you should be able to nominate your funding source before each individual best offer or buy it now. Having a family ebay account, we have a few different PayPal accounts. This means we'd have to constantly add and remove our accounts.
Good idea, but they need to refine it for these kinds of situations. Otherwise, it's a great move.
This happened to me during bidding as well. I won & it arrived in a couple days.
I recently bought a Rick using this new offer arrangement and I was really happy how fast this transaction happened.
I always bid to buy, so these only seem like good changes to me even as a buyer.
