One of the most underrated and beautiful Journey songs, "Winds of March"! Saw Journey so many times in concert, and never heard them play this great song! Infinity is a great collection of songs as well!
Journey was my first concert and I saw the Infinity tour. When they played Winds of March I stood there and cried. Not from sorrow but from beauty and joy. As the long notes carried off, I could hear the Pacific ocean crashing on the beach (Ventura County Fairgrounds, CA). I was 15. Magical.
As a soldier doing guard duty at midnight at a missile base in Germany in 78 i was told to play this cassette which was available to listen to in the jeep we were sitting in, we learned every song and the following day went to the PX to buy both the album and cassette (no cds back then) and became a lifelong Journey fan.
🎯 Excellent observation; I’ve thought the same thing for decades and love to replay that section repeatedly because Steve’s control is so staggering and mesmerizing. ♥️ It’s a fabulous diaphragmatic breathing exercise.
I sung this song to my son when he was tiny. He was born early March in the morning. Such a loving guy he was and still is! One of the loves of my life!
@Neal Schon I cant believe that its really you!!! You are such an icon in the music world, Journey is everything that I love! especially back in the 80's.
It's a testament to the band's portfolio that a song like this is overlooked because so many other songs are worthy of attention. Every instrument fits the part, and Perry brings the intensity the lyrics set up. It just crushes!
Quelle merveille !
Steve’s vocal on this song is something like Wheel in the Sky. His upper range is just unbelievable, love it. Neal and Jonathan are exceptional in their creative talent, just awesome. Just saw them in concert a couple weeks ago. Great concert….
@Ms Diane Clifford, FYI Jonathan Cain was not with Journey for infinity album, the man rocking the Hammond B3 organ is Gregg Rolie who left the band after the Captured Live album
Der absolute Wahnsinn...bin ( gottseidank!) nur durch blanken Zufall auf dieses Meisterwerk gestoßen! Ab jetzt läuft dieser Bombensong in Dauerschleife bei mir!!!!
This song came up as an answer on my daily crossword. I couldn't remember it so I looked it up. As I'm sitting here listening to it, I remember it almost word for word, note for note! Journey never grows old!
I just came across this song while watching a 1978 Soundstage Journey concert on RUclips. That's 46 years I didn't even know this song existed. Crazy! I guess I should thank RUclips.
Now that's the song I have not heard since 1983 it came to mind this morning 🌅 so I thought out of Google it. So I did then I listened to it and it was just as awesome as I heard it the first time which was way before 1983 great band! Great song!❤❤❤
An eclectic sounding rock fusion band with dwindling sales and threats of cancellation meets up with a classic rocker, inspired by Sam Cooke. They've never sounded anything like this, yet they feel him. On their first album together, they come up with a masterpiece with a melody compatible with all times and ends with an Infinity. I always felt that Perry artistic depth was really a lamentoso crying in lieu of his mother, due to the absence of his father. He's crying for her. It echoes an eternity here in this piece.
The year I turned14, Steve Perry joined Journey and this was my favorite song and album. Loved Queen News of the World and Fleetwood Mac Rumours. But Steve Perry was amazing. I saw them live In 1979 in Oakland, and we were shocked,Steve Perry was better live than on the Album. Neal and Greg came from Santana and they were from San Francisco, I grew up in the South Bay Area. Then they got Steve from the central vally. 30 minutes in we came out of shock. His long dark hair and black tuxedo tales I remember telling my friend, "He's a fucking raven. Who sings like that!? Impossible." Neal is amazing on the guitar, he made it sing. He and Steve would go back and forth guitar and vocal - incredible. Well, I'm 60 now. I remeber. Listening to this I'm 13 again, and the greatest band is from our city. Thanks you guys, old guy became young again. Much love.
Absolute masterpiece! As a drummer it is a journey through several different worlds in one song! Aynseley Dunbar nailed it! And PAiSTe 2oo2 cymbals too! The Hammond solo really gets your adrenaline pumping too! I have a C-3 with a Leslie 122 as well! And yes, I play PAiSTe 2oo2 as well! Merry Christmas all!
I covered you with roses Like the stars at night I covered you with love Like a blanket on a cold winter's night I covered you with joy To make your lifetime big and bright You touched me with your eyes Soft as an evening breeze You held me in your arms As the winds rushed through the trees You are my child You make my lifetime big and bright You are my child You came like the winds of March With all the love in your eyes You are my child You came like the morning lights With all your love, in your eyes You are my child You came like the morning light With all your love, in your eyes
My mother just passed away in January. She dedicated this song to me when I was a kid. I was due to arrive in March but arrived in February. Her name was Deb Hager.
Really, wow! I am almost envious to hear you just discovered it. I would like to have that experience again, but am glad I have been able to enjoy it all these years.
This song means so much for me.@steve sings this song so beautiful. And I listen to it every night before I go to sleep.it will always be in my heart.thank you @steve for this beautiful song.love Janet rodrock.your fan forever.

Not underrated, just unknown.
The whole album is 🔥-the 💣, really.
Journey was my first concert and I saw the Infinity tour. When they played Winds of March I stood there and cried. Not from sorrow but from beauty and joy. As the long notes carried off, I could hear the Pacific ocean crashing on the beach (Ventura County Fairgrounds, CA). I was 15. Magical.
Yes ,I wholeheartedly agree! Neil's solo is an intensely fiery yet melodic expression of emotion. Just beautiful!
I agree!!! One of the most beautiful songs ever!!!

Wow!
Conheci a banda há apenas uns dois meses. Desde então não parei mais de escutar. Ouço todos os dias.
I was there from 1980-1982 Hanau
Pershing?
"Infinity' such a good album..and Steve Perrys vocals.. perfection ..
Their best album, right there with Moving Pictures and Dark Side of the Moon
I think the best!!+
The best album ever by journey
That breath control from 2:17-2:43 is unfathomable
🎯 Excellent observation; I’ve thought the same thing for decades and love to replay that section repeatedly because Steve’s control is so staggering and mesmerizing. ♥️ It’s a fabulous diaphragmatic breathing exercise.
He is an amazing singer/vocalist. His high notes are incredible. This is a great period for them.
And he wasn't appreciated by the band. Loved him and Greg Rolie.
Wow I never really listened to it that closely. Nice observation bro.
Right??? Gives me chills!
I sung this song to my son when he was tiny. He was born early March in the morning. Such a loving guy he was and still is! One of the loves of my life!
Me too. My girl was born in March. The song kills me.
Best song in the album. Ridiculously underrated.
Great album. Nothing underrated. Schon has a ball playing guitar. I love patiently
Couldn't agree more
💯 agree! It's so beautiful it makes me cry.
And never hear it on any radio stations.
Check out Twilight Zone,/Rush and experience the same reality.
78-79 ahh the memories. This song always make feel tears. Yep even in 2024
❤
der ganze Song ist eine göttliche Offenbarung!
Can not imagine anyone else ever singing this song. The vocals are amazing that only Steve can deliver.
@Neal Schon Hey Neal, great to hear from you. My favourite band of all time,
@Neal Schon I cant believe that its really you!!! You are such an icon in the music world, Journey is everything that I love! especially back in the 80's.
I wore this album out back in the day. I forgot how much I loved it until right now.....I'm so grateful I grew up when I did. Best music ever.
This song and Steve Perry's vocals are perfection!
I dedicated this song to my son Keith when he was born. He's 31 yrs old now. He loves this song. 🔥
My goodness! This man's voice!! Mesmerizing!!💙🩵💜
It's a testament to the band's portfolio that a song like this is overlooked because so many other songs are worthy of attention.

It just crushes!
This song reminds me of the spring of 1979….. what a wonderful time.

Indeed, this was the first Journey album with Steve Perry, and the beginning of the end for Gregg who co-founded the band.

This is my absolute favorite Journey song. My dad and I spent hours listening to this album on road trips together, and this song was always ours
Great song to have memories with.
Greatest of all time🤘💯🎶1978
I just came across this song while watching a 1978 Soundstage Journey concert on RUclips. That's 46 years I didn't even know this song existed. Crazy! I guess I should thank RUclips.

Listening to this today, put me in the same space as “Castle Walls” by Styx.
Not the lyrics, but in a tonal sense.
I've played this to all 12 of my kids when they were babies/toddlers. I'm playing it for the youngest 4 of 'em right now!

This is the first time I have heard this beautiful song
My mother just passed away in January. She dedicated this song to me when I was a kid. I was due to arrive in March but arrived in February. Her name was Deb Hager.
This is their best album I think it is up their with Moving Pictures by Rush as a perfect work with no bad songs
Really, wow! I am almost envious to hear you just discovered it. I would like to have that experience again, but am glad I have been able to enjoy it all these years.
The best!❤. Love Steve❤
Why don't they play this kind of music on the radio.???!!!!
Greg Rolies keyboard is amazing, half this band played in Santana. Classic!
I request it on the station I listen to every March 1st and they NEVER PLAY IT!!!!😡🤬
Sempre lembrarei do meu sol e estrelas, Ariel, para sempre lhe carregarei em meu coração. ☀️
Guitar hitting around 2:28 oh ya. Then at 2:57 wow
I saw Journey perform the Infinity Album at the Summer Blowout in the early 80's. In CA.

Love you, always.
My Dad played Journey when I was a baby
Seen Journey at least 10 times, however I wished I had seen them previous to the Escape album.
When I heard this album in Germany, I'd thought the heavenly hosts were singing back up.
❤❤❤
The best Steve Perry era🎧❤️❤️❤️
My favorite song of and its beautiful!❤❤❤
From 3:02 to 4:11 Neal and Gregg gave a nod to their Santana days minus the percussion
One of my all-time faves!!!!!❤❤❤
I had the biggest crush on Steve Perry back in the 80s. Luv Luv
Love 😘
It's March, perfect! Oh what winds. War, earthquakes, and typhoons in Africa.
A child bears the price.
♥️♥️♥️
If you really want to hear some amazing Steve Perry, listen to Winds of March, Patiently and also Little Girl from the Japanese movie soundtrack for Dteam After Dream.
The Genius app couldn’t tell me what this song was about. It’s beautiful. It has to be about some child though. 🥺
It’s about grieving the loss of a child. The covered you with roses meant placing roses ona child’s casket
Wrong,Wrong and Wrong....
@@wizbang8193The song is in past tense. "I covered you in love to make your lifetime big and bright". The child's lifetime is over.
Extremely wrong
This is definitely a father singing about his child's funeral, right?
Raise your hand if you can hit the high note:
Anyone:
I love you Lauren Morales
Was it not??? Ides of March - I saw the show when Perry came on, weird he used to say Ides of March??? Now I'm tripping 😮😮😮??? #Mandella??? ❤❤❤😂😂😂😊😊😊
