As a former club DJ, I can appreciate his mad skills on the turntables. Just some friendly advice for aspiring DJ's. Check out all his tutorials. They are clear, precise and very informative. Pay very close attention to what he is saying and doing. He knows his stuff. Be patient, persistent and most of all, practice...a lot. In time, with perseverance, you may just surprise yourself with your own turntable skills.
I've been DJ since 2001, the boom of the CD players/Controllers. But really wanted to get back to the turntables. DJ Angelo and this course is going to help me. You a beast on them 2's. Thanks DJ Angelo
I hear a lot of new djs ask this. Which hand should i use to scratch the record with and which hand should i use to work the fader? My advice is to learn & be equally as good on both sides. when you start getting comfortable with one hand working the fader and the other on the record, switch to the other side so your weaker hand can get trained at working the cross fader as well as your strong hand. I am not ambidexterous, but i can cut the fader left handed as good as i can right handed.
This video is seriously awesome - it’s obvious that DJing is in your blood and that you care so much to teach other people what you’ve learned. And it makes me nostalgic for my vinyl days! “A simple two-channel mixer like this is all you really need” - how times have changed! 😂🔥💜
Welcome to the DJ Tutor family! Your turntablism tutorials are by far the best I've seen on RUclips. It is obvious that you put a lot of work into your videos. I have no doubt that your popularity is going to sky-rocket. Looking forward to what you do in the future.
L I K E IN 2020!!! Quase 12 anos atrás e continua sendo 1 big vídeo kkk explicações que sempre fazem diferença e ajudam muitos com certeza. PARABÉNS pela humildade, inteligência e dom!!!
Angelo, This was great!! I have watched your tutorials numerous times over the years, but never watched this first one. Only because I already knew how to setup my turntables. I have never set my Cartridges at the 23 degree angle, but I am now gonna try it. Thanks for breaking it down... Your the best, as well as one of the original DJ's with tutorials that have so much knowledge and are broken down so well... ✌️
That wasn't a "boring" tutorial at all. Awesome info. I've been scratching for 20 years and never understood the straight arm vs curved arm concepts. I will have to try setting the needle at an angle!
great job angelo very organized vid ,useful tips and pro insulation instruction ,i just luv each part of ur lesson dude ,your not only talented dj ,but also the best teacher ever youtube known keep on the amazing job ,we will remember your name for decades ..cheers from los angeles
Hey buddy, great question! Cheap mixers that don't have a curve adjustment on the crossfader are clearly not designed for scratching and the chances are, they won't be sharp enough for the majority of scratch techniques. Also, the build quality is likely to be poor so the faders will probably break or start to bleed (leak unwanted sound) after only a bit of use. Crossfader curve controls are starting to be a standard feature on even budget mixers so shop around and you may surprise yourself!
i stopped djing for a long ass time became an emt....but i suddenly got the urge to do it again...finally someone on youtube that has great tutorials scratching normally and not hamster : )
thanks for the tutorials man they help out heaps i only just got myself a numark ns7 .. hopefully get turntables soon but your videos help heaps cheers man
You get what you pay for in DJ gear and some lower end stuff just won't be able to handle the rigors of turntablism. If you can, I would suggest finding a decent 2nd hand set of Technics and/or Vestax equipment. Ebay never fails!
Yes it does help. Many have done it, and even most of Battle scratchers also. You'll see with small pieces of tape on diff parts of the vinyl in past battle videos.
haha. ya know what!! ive been into dj'ing for about 14 yrs now and (as i know it all) i did not know what the antiskate was for, (duh) plus ive never thought of setting my carts at an angle either, (again,,,,cos i know it all) oh well, i learn something new everyday. nice one angelo. cool mate.
I got so much experience watching you DJ bro I’ll be practicing on my phone but I have real turntables I’m going to buy some more with the CD just keep on studying the art of DJing that’s wassup bro I’m a share your video
I'm not familiar with the Gemini TT02's but I hear the torque is pretty good on them. Generally speaking though, you get what you pay for with turntables...
More weight does mean more wear on your records but the Shure M-447s are pretty good at preserving your vinyl. As a rule, you should try and use the least amount of weight to achieve maximum grip of your needles. In my experience, maximum weight works well but you may not need as much. Just remember, the nature of turntablism means that some record wear is unavoidable.
If you want a little cheaper solution, you can go with M-Audio Torq or Traktor Scratch Duo. But if you want to buy the best from the start, get the new Serato SL3 (or get the TTM57-SL mixer so you dont have to worry about breakout boxes.
@BigNoseMusic The vinyl will get damaged (or "burned") by constantly rubbing or scratching it against the needle. The slipmat just helps the record to move more freely. PS. If you want to start scratching or turntablism in general get Spherical needles & not Eliptical. Eliptical are pointed whereas Spherical are round. The Spherical will be a lot easier on your records. Peace.
i am using the turntable tutorial to practice the numark mixdeck but i am having much difficulties in the scratch and combination of the cross fader, can u help me out
I have several questions to ask U if U don't mind. 1st what setup do U recommend to the average beginner and it's cost? 2nd, Where do U get your vinyls? and can U buy them from any music store? Any info would be appreciated. thnx!
this is so legit. all your videos are really accurate and well explained and i just have one question. if i am getting a mixer that is for scratching, but im in a budget, so it wont have a "curve", will the crosssfader still be sharp enough to scratch?
Hey how’s it going Angelo. I was wondering what turntables and mixers you recommend for beginners that work well. And where to shop for them. eBay etc. Like a whole setup basically that will do the job
Hello Angelo. I love your videos. I’m not sure the M-447’s were made just for turntablism though. You can see them in the movie “The Warriors”… long before turntablism began.
Here’s the scene where you can see the M-447’s. m.ruclips.net/video/58UD3jU86pY/видео.html&pp=ygUcVGhlIFdhcnJpb3JzIE5vd2hlcmUgdG8gcnVuIA%3D%3D the movie is from 1979 & hiphop started in ‘72 so maybe they were in fact made specifically for turntablism 🤷♂️
What are the required equipment for a simple turntable setup purely for scratching? Because a friend of mine said I need audio interface and software and such.

Thanks for looking me up and for appreciating what I'm doing.
Will definately be making more tutorials.
I edit the videos in Sony Vegas.

This series is the best thing for beginners like me
I've been DJ since 2001, the boom of the CD players/Controllers. But really wanted to get back to the turntables. DJ Angelo and this course is going to help me. You a beast on them 2's. Thanks DJ Angelo
You're welcome. Yes, I will upload gig footage when I can...

Brilliant! just took your advice on turning the cartridge, 100% improvement for the heavy handed!
Hey buddy, great question!

This tutorial is 11 years old, and still very good, just started getting into music production, and wanted to get into turntablism.
Thank you for your tutorials I have worked through them all, I've been having a lot of fun on my pioneer mp3 decks scratching.
nice job mate! really well explained
Yes. You could run your computer audio through one channel of your mixer and your turntable through the other and run a master output from the mixer
Every view taken seriously will turn a push plays into turntablism properly. Keep it up yall....
i stopped djing for a long ass time became an emt....but i suddenly got the urge to do it again...finally someone on youtube that has great tutorials scratching normally and not hamster : )

I was subscriber #55,555. *takes a bow* Thank you, Thank you...
Hi Angelo I love to learn how to scratch I love your juggling
Good advice. Like I said, it's always best to check with your mixer manufacturer if you're not sure
It's the instrumental of "So Sensitive" by Pete Miser. The same guitar sample was used on "Shake It Up" by Horace Brown.
You get what you pay for in DJ gear and some lower end stuff just won't be able to handle the rigors of turntablism. If you can, I would suggest finding a decent 2nd hand set of Technics and/or Vestax equipment. Ebay never fails!
I never knew that at 6:36, after 20 years of tables, I just learned something new.
like the smooth style - almost like every1's invited
Thanks for the slip matt tip! just improved my back spinning 10 fold :D
Yes it does help. Many have done it, and even most of Battle scratchers also. You'll see with small pieces of tape on diff parts of the vinyl in past battle videos.
I tried this on my Dad's stereo and he kicked my ass.
Something so simple. Thanks man top tip from video1.
Looking forward to the rest.
Thank you🫵👍
looking forward to more vidz!!!
that is the first time i have heard a reason, why angling the cartridge works so well, Brilliant!!!
haha. ya know what!! ive been into dj'ing for about 14 yrs now and (as i know it all) i did not know what the antiskate was for, (duh) plus ive never thought of setting my carts at an angle either, (again,,,,cos i know it all) oh well, i learn something new everyday. nice one angelo. cool mate.

This Video Is Great... Ur The Best Dj Angelo!!! Respect For This Video...
Great Tutorial!!! Awesome job!
I don't use lighting.
I DJ using turntables hooked up to Serato ScratchLIVE.
I'm not familiar with the Gemini TT02's but I hear the torque is pretty good on them.
Generally speaking though, you get what you pay for with turntables...

I'm pretty sure that the crossfader for the EX isn't compatible with the DX. You might wanna check with Technics to be sure though...
DUDE IS A BEAST!
