A single catastrophe - the underpass at the radio tower

It was once possible to quickly and safely cross under the road at the exhibition center. Part of the development was connected to the former ICC congress center.
The listed underpass makes a sad impression: elevators that no longer run, escalators that stand still. Dirty corners and blocked exits. It smells like urine. Homeless people always set up camp here. Some of the fluorescent tubes of the 70s-style lamps are flickering towards their last breath or have already died. Women have been avoiding this for a long time and it is also an imposition for Berlin tourists. Not a nice figurehead for Berlin. Every corner here seems to be “poor and unsexy”. Once a showpiece for Berlin, now more of a transit point so you don't have to linger here. The underpass is a listed building and is worth protecting, but obviously people prefer the simple solution and let this place fall into a deep sleep.
Whether the underpass will ever be reactivated remains unclear for now. But until that happens, the hard-working traffic light men will regulate pedestrian traffic without any trade union break.
