Can’t sign everyone for big $$$. Extend Carter , Reed can be replaced by a another cheaper corner.

There's another reason to keep Carter. The Jets starting defense is really nickel and they can do that because Reed is so good against the run that they don't lose much by keeping him on the field instead of a 3rd LB in running situations. Carter really doubles as very light 3rd linebacker and having a nickel that can do that is very valuable in the Jets scheme.

Love both players, but like you said - the best choice would be to extend MCII. He'll be cheaper, is younger, and is one of the top players at nickel. Also, there's something to be said about drafting, developing, and extending your players. From a team building POV, I imagine that's what GMs dream of. I wish we could find a way to keep both but at the very least, next years draft is going to be a lot deeper at CB than this year. Wouldn't shock me if we take one in the first 3 rounds.
