i now recommend that you use the UDP config file installed. It might be a bit tedious if you want to have different countries, but running an VPN executable in the background seems more troublesome: protonvpn.com/support/vpn-config-download/
This was very helpful sir. Thank you. One question though, how do I get a different ip address every time I run the command? Right now I get the same spoof ip. Do you get the same ip everytime as well?
Mark Perez you genius, thanks man. Simplified the whole process!! Everything works as of 05/05/2020, follow the video tutorial Got yourself a new subscriber ❤️
Hi Mark! Thanks for the tutorial. What is the command to turn off? you showed us at the end but I didn't catch it) And If I want to turn on I should do the whole process again? Sorry I'm new with linux.
to stop the vpn press ctrl and c to start vpn write: sudo openvpn filename(write the first two letters of the vpn file name then press tab key and it will autofill) I hope this helps, if not please contact me and I will be happy to help my friend.
Thank you so much! But I have a question. Is it normal if my wifi on LInux doesnt works after I ended the vpn session, even if i am connected with the wifi. I tried to ping google. com and it didnt work, but pinging googles Dns server works. Anyways i fixed the problem. But the question remains, if this was only a coincidence or does this problem accure after every vpn session? However this was a great tutorial and keep it up! Good job well done.
thanks for your video. Is there a way that after reboot it auto-starts and auto-connects like on Debian? For now I need to start it manually after each reboot. Is there somewhere to check the options auto-start and auto-connect?
When I got to the last step I got a message saying this: Wed Jul 15 23:43:08 2020 AUTH: Received control message: AUTH_FAILED Wed Jul 15 23:43:08 2020 SIGTERM[soft,auth-failure] received, process exiting How do I get past this
Its better you can also install the proton app and can change vpn servers... If you are in KDE then you will need to make allow always when promped and then you can use it as same in Windows... So this is the harder process and Proton VPN always lacks up-time in servers so that is more had to keep saving server...and run it through terminal... Hope this helps you...😅
Thank you for your help. I literally installed linux TODAY ... I'm a total noob with command line and so on .... I followed this just fine and it works, thank you. Can you tell me how to start the program after I restart linux? will I have to type something in command line?
when I run this command sudo openvpn us-free-01.protonvpn.com.udp.ovpn I got this error Options error: --up script fails with '/etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf': No such file or directory (errno=2) Options error: Please correct this error. any help, please?
very misleading, protonvpn only works with systemd init system while there are (surprise surprise) many different init systems availible which arent supported by this vpn.
Hi Mark. I'm such an old novice I probly shouldn't be attempting this. When I enter 'cd downloads/' it says 'bash: cd: downloads/: No such file or directory' Any ideas where I'm going wrong? I have definitely downloaded the openvpn file.
better to just download the gui application for linux, theres also multiple free servers available without subscription. Much easier to use, dont have to keep terminal open

have u tried the new GUI app? it looks pretty good: protonvpn.com/support/linux-vpn-setup/#linux_app i always preferred a frontend, but this was not available back then (i think it recently came out)
@@markster1904 Hey...I need one help can you help me out?? I am a fedora user but I want an Linux Distro which is only based for gaming, meaning I can do better gaming than gaming on windows. to be honest, performance depends on ur hardware, so u can use any distro (it depends how easy it is to install drivers) using an ubuntu/arch-based distro are easy to configure, but arch distros can give u slightly better performance - i would recommend manjaro (gnome flavour) since it's pretty easy to install: manjaro.org/download/#gnome
NONE of these "free" servers work. It doesn't matter if you use the terminal set or try to install through the VPN setup on your Network Connections. All the zip file does is give an "error" install "could not create a new connection" warning. FAIL
