This might sound weird, but we have a murder here in Iowa called the: "tattoed lady murder". The victim was named Margaret (Peggy) Treese. She was killed in the late 40s, and her brutal killing is unsolved. The reason I think you would be very interested in the case, is the cultural context of the killing. The focus seemed to always be on Margaret's tattoos, the fact she was found naked, that some of the tats were in intimate areas, and that she had multiple husband's, not on her slaying, or finding her killer.

It sounds typical to slut shaming.Back in the day a lady with tattoos was considered a “fast woman”, Holy heck if the tattoo s were in a “private area”. Anyone married more than 2x was bad to the bone or a movie star or heiress someone who needed money or other needed her money. Lol. But married multiple times could be someone who lives in Texas or Las Vegas where it’s easy to marry & divorce .Having multiple tattoos could mean a former jail or prison inmate ,a carni or someone who’s husband is a tattoo artist ? What a conundrum.

Thank you for covering this. I was a freshman at Oak Hills High Schoool (right up the road) when this happened. You are so right about everyone being terrified of the Cincinnati Strangler and when this happened, it was HUGE! I moved to that neighborhood in 1980 and lived there 7 years and folks were still talking about it...and often. I lived a few streets over and had to pass that home often. To this day, people who were around then are so baffled and so wish they'd solve it. Of course, the neighborhood always blamed the good Vet, but I read JT's book and met him. I hope Ancestry or 123 can help us find answers. You did a fabulous job describing how disturbing this was...and still is!

I looked into this case a couple years ago and read then that the wife only worked briefly for the vet... and that she said that he had raped her... Gabby, first of all, this is a "horrific" family murder case, that I hope will be solved in the near future, period! I personally believe that the Bricca family was killed by someone they knew and who was close to them. The fact that their two dogs didn't bark and were locked in a room, seems like the dogs were familiar with the murderer. The "despicable" way in which they were murdered seems like a crime of passion and strong hatred for the family, too. Great investigating, presentation and photos, too. You always do an awesome job in the stories that you present. Take care 🦋

I didn't know you lived in KY! I live in metro Cincinnati. So...I think it’s fitting to tell you about the time my husband and I almost bought the Bricca house.
A few years ago, my husband and I were looking for our house. I had an idea of what I wanted: something on the Westside near our jobs and, preferably, an older house: 1910s - mid-century modern. I saw this beautiful mid-century house on a website and it was at a good price. I emailed the Realtor and asked if we could walk through it.
The next morning, I was showing my husband the listing and as I was looking through the photos, I began to feel uneasy. I just had a bad feeling about the house as I flipped through the photos. Something felt off. I told my husband that I think we should pass on the listing. Shortly after that, I looked up the address on Google and found out it was the Bricca house.
Neither I nor my husband knew anything about the case. Both of us were born in the 80s and I wasn't originally from Cincinnati.
I grew up in a haunted house and have been sensitive to environments for as long as I can remember. I'm not saying the house is haunted, but there is something negative looming over it. I think we dodged something for sure.

The Strangler sounds like a no-go. His victims were older, and it sounds like they either lived alone or at least were alone when killed. The Briccas were younger, lived together, and in a different kind of neighborhood. 'Satanic Panic'? Nope.

    • @julz3tt3
      @julz3tt3 2 года назад +5

Exactly. The Strangler was an opportunist, he didn't enter homes AND I'm sure the dogs would have barked like hell. The Cincinnati Strangler would have ran away from the dogs unless he was familiar with animals in some way? The M.O of his crimes is different from the Family murder of an affluent family in a good neighborhood. The Strangler went for women only in open areas, usually of low socioeconomic status because sadly back then he thought noone would care about poor women being killed which is horrid but true of the 1960s.

great video as always!! I read JT Townsends book and a few things stood out..1.) earlier in that year they were separated, they had alot of troubles in their marriage apparently. 2) Leininger that night of the murders also had a mysterious "medical event" that he should have gone to the hospital but he never did . 3) the female neighbors really didn't like Linda Bricca, she was known for being kind of flirty and very pretty and washed her car in her driveway in her bathing suit so the guys in the neighborhood were always taking a second look at her and the wives were kinda jealous. 4) Jerry said a couple days before the murders he was going to beat up Leininger and he really hated him 5.) 2 men and a woman or a man wearing a wig were seen in a car that night of murders in the Briccas driveway at 10:30 PM. 6.) Right down the street from the Bricca house, a storekeeper said Fred was in there late that evening and seemed highly anxious and hiding his left hand in his pocket ...this book has a ton of interviews and facts about the case. I highly recommend it.

The evidence does seem to point to someone whom they knew and whom they had invited into their home before. It's also noteworthy that almost none of the neighbors noticed anyone or anything suspicious on the night of the murders, other than the one person who saw someone pacing but couldn't see them clearly. It makes me wonder if this was done by someone who lived in the neighborhood or who was there so regularly that no one thought anything of them being there.
Whoever this was seems to have gotten into the house without a struggle, subdued the dogs without alerting the family, possibly acquired the knife and rope from inside the house BEFORE attacking the family, committed the murder (and any other crimes committed that night), and then got out of the house just as quietly and easily as they entered, once again without anyone noticing them.
Did they sneak in while the family was sleeping and catch them completely unawares? If so, why were they not murdered in their beds while they slept but apparently first woken, taped and bound, and then murdered, thereby increasing the risk of discovery or escape? If the family was still awake when the murderer entered the home, how did they manage to subdue the whole family without the neighbors hearing a thing? Why were the tape and bindings removed? If it was done before the murder, that would have risked them shouting for help or escaping. If it was done after the murder, what purpose did it serve, especially if the rope had come from within their own home? The daughter being killed in her own room--next to, but not IN her bed--makes me think that she didn't surprise the killer in the midst of attacking her parents but was killed separately from them. That could indicate that she was always an intended target, but if so, why? There are so many strange elements to this, the more you consider all the details.

Linda was wearing a coat over her nightgown? Unusual and significant. This indicates to me that she was ready for bed or in bed and someone rang the doorbell. She pulled on a coat before answering the door and probably let the murderer in, (as there were apparently no signs of force or struggle at the front door); in other words she knew him. It's strange however that the husband didn't answer the door -- when someone's at the door late at night, usually it's the husband who goes to the door, for safety reasons. But, whatever, the coat is a clue to me, although not one that helps identify the killer.

However, I think that it's possible that he was struggling with his mental health and being questioned and accused of this crime may have been too much for him. It's possible that the police questioning triggered some anxiety or depression and that's why he stopped cooperating. Life under this intense scrutiny finally became to much for him and he committed suicide. Just an alternative theory.

The neighborhood says her boyfriend did it. It really did sort of take away the innocence of Greenhills. Nobody ever got over it. I still get shivers when I walk over the spot where her body was found....its one of those stories that creep you out, and everybody in the village knows the tale. You ought to research it...its never been officially solved, except by popular opinion (whatever that's worth).

They should have ask those simple questions in the first 2 interviews. Those questions were so basic it sounds like the police wanted to ask the same questions in order to trip him up. There is no way back then that they could proved the hair in the victims palm was the vet’s hair. I would assume they collected the vet’s hair to see if it was similar to the hair in the victims palm. I believe the suspicion on the vet led to him drinking more and more and him taking his own life.

I am hearing Linda was born in January of 1966, yet she married Jerry, born in 1938, in 1961 with daughter born 1962. I replayed it several times. What year was Linda born?

Yay you're back. Been watching your content and awesome hair changes since 2017 ☺️❣️
This case is horrific. An entire family brutally murdered including a four year old girl 😐😡 disgraceful.
I'm suspecting the Vet. Linda left that job because he reportedly raped her..and the dogs didn't make a sound when this person entered. The dogs were sedated? Who would have access to animal sedation and then be able to calmly take them into another room? Also be able to enter the home without scaring the family? At first the Veterinarian would appear known to them and I don't think Linda would have disclosed the sexual assault to her daughter, perhaps even her Husband didn't know either. It's in the case files if anyone's interested.
That seems the most plausible. I hope DNA testing blows this wide open. It was certainly a passionate crime.
It may very well be that the Awful company where Jerry worked was a distracting red herring???

I can't remember if Townsend touched on this subject in his book or subsequent interviews, but swinging and wife swapping were very prevalent in that era, especially among more affluent couples. Being a young and attractive couple, the Bricca's might have gotten involved in that lifestyle and someone got jealous. The murders seem very personal to me and might explain why seman not belonging to her husband was found.

I must be honest....i had a best friend who tried to take my life because he was my beneficiary. Well, he didn't know i had changed it actually. This kind of shit doesn't surprise me anymore. Maybe whoever did this to this family were the beneficiary of their estate. That would explain knowing the dogs.

Who would have the ability to kill a child but not the dogs? The dogs, in my opinion, are an important factor in this case. This makes the doctor even more suspicious although, I doubt it was an affair. Did Linda maybe discover he was involved in something criminal?

    Just reading through some comments.
Regardless of whether dogs know a person or not, if they are conscious and locked in a room (like in this case) or put outside and they hear a commotion going on in the house that is unfamiliar, they will react. Scratching at doors, barking, howling, whimpering. Especially being that these dogs were apparently protective. I am inclined to think that the dogs were either drugged or they were hurt by this person and therefore fearful to defend or make a noise until the threat was gone. A dog is more likely able to be silenced by command or violence by someone they know or recognise, than by a stranger.
I'd be more concerned and looking in to the the husbands place of employment. Monsanto are one of the most evil and diabolical companies on the planet. A law unto themselves.

This case hits close to home! I’m one hour from Cincinnati, and it happened exactly 25 years to the day before I was born.
I have a high suspicion it was the veterinarian. Medical tape, him being close with the daughter, the dogs not barking because of possible sedation. Not to mention, why didn’t he raise any flags when she just didn’t show up to work for two days?

    • @julz3tt3

I found your channel and watched the Pearl Bryan case, and thought how awesome, you were covering a case linked to Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. There's quite a few cases in the area like the Agrues and Dink Carter. He was executed in the 1940s for killing his wife's family. This took place in Indiana, right across the river from Northern Kentucky. He took the lives of his father and mother in law, their two sons and an 11yr old girl.

I’m thinking, since mom and daughter were n pajamas and dad without shoes, the family could have originally been ready for bed.. and the killer showed up knowing dad which is why he was the only one dressed.. I’m thinking mom probably wasn’t raped since she was wearing a coat over her pajamas, and since women were so much more modest back then, that she hurried up and put on or that the killer allowed her to cover herself... the only reasoning I can assume for killing the daughter is because she knew the killer
