Congrats on 10 years Ben. Yours is one of the first channels that inspired me to make some videos of my own (not to mention the book deal). And I won't feign that my channel's generic-sounding name and orange insignia aren't just a little bit derivative. Here's to 10 more!
You copied his hair too didn't you. I'm on to you.
Ah I just thought about you before I decided to look at the comments
Both of your channels have some of the best content I have ever gotten to enjoy on this site
I love it when Science Dad comments on Science Uncle's videos! y'all are both amazing
@@StormBurnX hahaha, personally, I think of the guy from Tech Ingredients as Science Dad, and Grady as Science Uncle. Which I guess makes Ben Doc Brown. He even has the DeLorean.
@@GigsVT Hot active brain needs to cool down, evolution.
The honesty and effort in this channel is much appreciated!
I can only imagine the reaction of his 2011 audience: " Next week we will diverge a little from our usual content, and instead of baking a new cake, I will show you how to build your very own electron scanning microscope!"
dude, your 10 years of youtube content are a credit to humanity. you demonstrate all the best qualities of a person: hard work, intelligence, creativity, curiosity, fearless action, humor, and humility. much thanks for all the amazement and inspiration! *respect.*
Perfect comment 👌🏽
Indeed. Thank you Ben. 🙏🏻
What Douglas said.
Here here!
"Doing a phase-change is one of the party tricks that I was known for" what an incredibly interesting sentence
What you put on this website in 10 years would take me 100. The amount of human knowledge on display is truly staggering, and your straightforward and candid presentation has doubtless inspired thousands to try their hand at seemingly impossible tasks.
Thank you.
He is proof an education is worth while. You never know what is waiting for you until you know the right questions to ask. edit: im going back as a dropout, and im pursuing my degree because of people like him.
Getting a degree can be worth it. But even more than that, it's about a drive to understand how the world actually works, and how to build things
@@DavidKristoffersson
I think we are all in agreement here if we simply point out that "education" does not only take place in "schools". And that "degrees" are not a true measurement a persons "education level" and much less their level of knowledge and abilities.
Best regards.
Do not undervalue yourself. You would be shocked at what is possible to learn if you start reading research papers and frantically googling everything you don't understand, consult a textbook or two, and filter it through a reality check of actually executing a project. The most difficult part is to believe in your own capacity to progress that far enough to take failures as enjoyable challenges to overcome rather than walls you slam into.
This level of understanding is what, how and why things can be interpreted as Actual Intelligence and Intuition proof-disproof by doing a working model, and having the Artificial Intelligence of practicing what you think you understand until you have an operational Principle of testable theory and not so much absolutism that is actually subject to Uncertainty Principle approximation, all-ways here-now-forever.
Way to go on ten years!
It's really nice to see all of science youtubers coming together
What drew me to you was the fact that you're a maker who didn't stop at LED's
Oh my god, yes.
@@filipenicoli_ right? Like don't get me wrong it's great if you can make something shiney but I want something that's mind boggling. Like making your own liquified air.
Easily one of the most impressive efforts of a single person reproducing science AND we get to watch. Here’s to another 10 years!
10 years! There are several videos I need to go back and watch. I love the idea that you originally just wanted to show something on the internet doesn't really seem to be showcased. I try to keep track of those moments where I'm searching for inspiration for something, a project, etc. and there just doesn't seem to be any information on the subject. I know its something I should do, or build, myself.
10 years of the best content on YT. Thanks Ben.
Congratulations on 10 years to one my my favorite RUclipsrs! Have you ever thought about doing any projects with Terahertz radiation emitters and detectors (like those in airport body scanners)? I feel like it's one of those things with very little information about online, and would be really cool if you can pull it off in a home shop. Industrial devices are really expensive and not easily accessible. Seems like the perfect formula for your channel!
I, too, would love to see something like this.
yes please.. Thz is the dark gap on the astronomy spectrum too!
A cool video would be discussing some of the most challenging things you've overcome to complete a project, or interesting solutions to problems.
My personal favorite :
- How corrosion inhibitors protect metal
- Electro-osmosis
- DIY Raman Spectroscopy
- DIY Mass Spectrometer measuring potassium in dietary salt substitute
You mentioned tMS, but what about doing a project on tDCS?
Raman spectroscopy to me always sounds like you're analysing noodles 😉
Congratulations! You are a great inspiration. The aerogel experiments brought me to your channel
Dude you don't even know how much good you brought to the world by doing what you like :)
I had no idea you worked at Valve. That’s pretty awesome! Congrats on 10 years!
I would love to hear more about his experience working there.
HL3 confirmed!
Their company structure is very flawed and apparently quite hostile. Competitive but nasty. I'm not envious.
I'm happy there's an upload
Too bad the cookie individualizer wasn't all that well received. That video introduced me to Applied Science and is one of my favorites.
Same here :D
I actually really loved the cookie machine. Its such an interesting idea, and it really showed the development process that goes into a brand new piece of equipment.
every apprentice had to make a masterpiece to be accepted by his peers as a qualified craftsman. the microscope was your magnus opus announcing yourself to the world. Congratulations on some incredible content. And have another ten years of amazing machines.
2:10 *let’s all take a moment to appreciate that Applied Science was one of the FIRST people on social media and internet video archives to share how to make a fondant cakes and etc* . And started the tiktok Snapchat and instagram bakery confectionary scene literally years before there were tens of millions of videos and millions upon millions of flashy colorful baked goods videos
The first video I ever watched of yours was the Rubber Band Refrigerator. It was featured in some article like the Verge or something and it drew me in. Been subscribed ever since.
Awesome projects and videos. Boy, do I miss Maker Faire. We should try to revive that thing.
2 years down already, 8 more to go til part 2. Can’t tell you how much we appreciate you and what you do. You’re one the only reasons I watch RUclips. The rest are the likeminded creators who comment here occasionally
I'm still waiting for you to turn the Delorean into an actual time machine. :p
"So anyway I happened to have a flux capacitor lying around from a video that never came to fruition, which was perfect for this opportunity"
It already is a time machine, it's how he got here from the future.
@@rocketsocks Suddenly it all makes sense. :p
He did it back in 2026. You must have missed it.
Technically he already has.
Glad you are still making videos, I've enjoyed every single one and some of my college classes have referenced your videos!
I always enjoy your video's Ben! Thanks for taking the time to share your projects and experiments with us!
This overview brings back a lot of good memories. Personally I think the electron microscope project got me hooked to your channel. Looking forward to more exciting projects.
10 years! Nice achievement!
BTW, there WAS a video of someone pouring LOx onto a lit barbecue that I saw about 25 years ago. George Goble from Purdue University, the inventor of one of the first HFC's to replace CFC's in refrigeration, published a video of himself pouring a gallon of LOx onto a barbecue. He did it a couple of times the same year - until the local fire department asked him not to do it again.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane Ben.
You and Jeri were my favorites back then.
What a lovely retrospective
Ben, your channel has long been one of my absolute favorites, not just for the content (which is amazing) but also your somewhat “no frills” approach to video post-production. You present information clearly, intelligently, and in a manner that doesn’t patronize or lecture your audience. It’s reminiscent of having a cool neighbor or cousin who’s always got a project going, and wants to show you something interesting in his garage shop-and I mean that in the most complimentary way.
Also, I sincerely appreciate a channel that doesn’t overtly clickbait, and doesn’t need a minute-long, boilerplate, intro/extro sequence. I wish more creators would just abruptly end videos with “See ya next time, bye!” ...that makes me smile every time.
Your methodology and projects drew me in of course, but the video style kept me coming back for more.
Applied Science, Practical Engineering, and NileRed remain tied for my three favorite channels. Keep up the amazing work, and thanks for all you do!
'The cake is NOT a lie'
Finally. I had waited so long.
Imagine that viewer eagerly waiting for the next cake video and there's a SEM instead.
And not one cake video (apart from some sweets) afterwards! Now we know where those 2 dislikes come from.
He worked at Valve! The cake is a lie!
The fact that you don't have 10 million subscribers is proof positive that this site's algorithm does not select for quality or information value. You're the best practical science videographer on the planet.
Realizing this now was an entire decade made me feel older than i want to admit :D
My favorite was the cryogenic treatment of drill hits personally
My favourites:
- vacuum chamber with sputtering.
- the cold trap refrigerator thing.
- the magneto-optical effect of oil
- silicon wafer etching.
-hologram on chocolate
AND
- the AM transmitter thing in the vintage truck.
One of my favorite videos was the rubber band refrigerator. First of your videos I ever saw.
_"Doing a phase change in front of everyone became one of the party tricks that i was known for."_
*Hydro-Man confirmed*
Congratulations on 10 years! It has been very fun, educational and inspirational. Hope you stay with us for lots of more years.
Thank you for everything!
10 years. Man, what a journey. Thank you, Ben, for an amazing channel that always expands the mind.
"at home" gets me every time .. love your projects, you're a real world "Reodor Felgen" which is just the coolest character ever.
Amazing channel! Can't wait for 10 more!
Congrats! 10 years doing really cool and inspirational videos... Simple "thank you" is just not enough!
And to be honest, you are one of the best people, that inspired me to take on similar hobby.
I subscribed since vinyl record under microscope video. Since then, I have never regretted and never cease to be surprised by each new video!
I really dig the format and would love to hear more background stories about the projects you have done so far!
Thanks for an amazing 10 years.
Your ability to go to any lengths necessary to create things people would normally only expect to see come out of a university lab. Have inspired me and i'm sure many others to stretch their own personal boundaries on what is possible for a home gamer.
Thanks Ben, Really great to be reminded of these again! Hope they keep coming for another 10 years!
Congrats on the milestone! Thanks for uploading your incredible projects and interests, it's wonderful to watch and learn
Happy 10 years! Ive been watching for about 7 of those and I have learned some very obscure things from this channel. Very inspirational! Thank you.
Thank you Ben for all those interesting videos. Every video is super high quality and always a pleasure to watch!
Thanks for 10 years Ben, your videos are always interesting, usually very novel, and highly memorable. I don't think there's a single one of the highlighted clips that I don't remember watching with excitement and coming out of it inspired.
I absolutely love your videos, always looking forward to the next one. Keep up the good work!
The Apollo DSKY gets my vote. It was the first of Bens videos I watched and I would have thrown my toys out of the pram at escape velocity over that one. I am *so* glad we have more content on the way! Ben rocks. Well, pop rocks... :-)
Amazing! Thank you for all your efforts Ben, always a pleasure to watch your videos
Happy anniversary, Ben! And thanks for your amazing channel, teaching us mere mortals how to apply proper science!
Congrats.
You've done some truly inspiring projects over the years, and often unique from everything else out there.
And you go more in-depth into the theory than most, but still manage to keep it entertaining and fascinating throughout.
Thanks, Ben. ;)
Everything you upload is pure gold and I just love hearing about what you have to say, even if it's "just" about videos you've already done. They were interesting and so are your thoughts on them. I just wish you'd upload more, but of course there's only so much a single person can work on. Your channel is by far my favorite of the >200 I'm subscribed to and I'm really looking forward to your future videos.
Thank you for creating and maintaining a great channel! It's one of my top 10 favorite RUclips channels.
Time moves so fast. I've been following your projects for 8-ish of those ten years, it feels like a treat every time there's something new from you. You have shown me many genuinely interesting things and I appreciate your perseverance and curiosity. Thanks Ben!
Thanks, Ben. You're the best! Keep them coming.
Your best project in my opinion are... all them. But that from sputtering are one that I watching about 100 times.
Congratulations for the 10 years, I love to see your videos! :)
Congrats Ben! What an awesome collection of videos.
Thanks Ben and wish you another 10 happy applied science years! I am amazed by the diversity of knowledge and skills you present.
I’m sad that it took me so long to discover your channel, but I’m stoked that I can now binge watch 10 years worth of videos! Congratulations on the success of your channel.
Oh, congratulations! That's a great milestone.
Every single one of your vids is a total banger. Your videos and topics are so fascinating and I learned so much by watching you.
This video earned my subscription. I'm excited to have discovered your channel and look forward to future videos!
Ben, I love your channel. Thank you for putting this out there.
I just found your channel lately, and I find it great. Keep up the good work man!!!
Such an inspiration for creatives all around. Keep doing what you're doing Ben!
Thanks for letting me in on this awesome 10 year journey. I've learned so much about stuff I never would have thought to look into myself. I know the act of getting the footage and editing it has been no small investment of time and energy, thank you for doing it. I hope to see you around for 10 more years. All the best.
This channel continues to be my favorite on RUclips. Unquestionably the most informative and advanced science being done on the platform. We’re honored to be able to watch it
Congrats Ben !!!! You have done such amazing work over the years. I always look forward to what project you'll be discussing next and I find myself completely impressed at the level of detail you reach in every single project. You've done some truly brilliant work and I admire your talent. I'm so happy for you that you've been able to make a career of this on youtube. You do such a great job sharing the information and taking us along each adventure you go on. I hope you remain curious and inquisitive for decades to come !
Congratulations Ben! I’ve been a subscriber for quite some time and honestly this channel has taught me so much. I never went into engineering but the things I’ve seen on here are things that make me understand the things around me and imagine things
Love this. As a fellow maker / content creator, I don't know how you find the time and energy to do all this research and make your videos but I'm super thankful that you do. Some of the best stuff on RUclips, IMO!
Your content is the best on YT. Thanks for all the great projects!!
You are the best. It's been a blast. Thanks for everything you do!
Thank you so much and congratulations on 10 years. Every episode blows me away. I just finished school and I only hope one day I have your methodology and knowledge for problem solving.
Congrats on 10 years, and 250+ great videos. Love your channel, and we always learn and explore.
10 years! Makes me feel so old. I discovered this channel around 10 years ago when I wanted to understand impedance and found your great video on the subject. I have gotten so much joy from your channel even though 90% goes over my head. Here's to the next 10 years, thank you very much!
Congrats Ben! Here's to many more years of very cool stuff.
some of the best stuff on youtube. i’m not very smart, but i walk away with more knowledge after seeing the stuff you do. these things may not ever be applicable to me, but are still super inspiring. always stoked to see you upload.
I haven't been here for the entire 10 years but i have been here for a while. Congratulations on 10 years on youtube, I hope you will continue to produce the same amazing content.
Oh man, you're one of coolest RUclips makers. Like you've done things I didn't believe were possible for an individual to do. That's what inspiration is about.
Been a long-time follower, Ben and two things I appreciate most about your videos is how honest your are about successes and failures and the way you stretch in your projects with an I-should-be-able-to-do-that fearlessness. Inspiring. Here's to another 10 years and more. Many thanks. Respect.
This was a very nice retrospective. I have not seen some of your earlier videos. I'm going to go back at watch them.
Super interesting! Thanks for sharing and uploading all these experiment! All the best for the next 10 years!
five years ago the head of the robot team at work suggested you, not disappointed. You see the atomic world and explain it magnificently , The cavity mixing laser, and the double cycle fridge, I would be interested to see more cold experiments . I think these are not as popular as making plasma but maybe a more unexplored domain ?Love your work,
Thank you for all your work to make these fascinating videos!
happy 10 years ! And yes viewer favorite to hear backstory would be a hit imo, I for sure gonna watch them :D Looking forward for another 10 years Ben ! Thanks again for your dedication :)
I’m down for another one of these.
I don’t have time to watch all of your videos so it’s great to see a lot of them in one pace. For the videos that I have seen it’s still fun to re-experience them.
Ben, thank you very much for being so entertaining, skillful host and yet incredibly modest. You make youtube watching worth our time. Thank you, and yes are waiting for next coolness and will celebrate with you another anniversary!
thank you, your videos are one of the most humbling
Really cool to see the variety and depth of the channel. Here's to another 10 yrs!
Ben, you are phenomenal ! congrats on 10 years.
I've been watching since your home made SEM video came out. You are definitely one of my favorite channels on here, and I'm so glad that you keep uploading your videos!
Looking forward to the next one!
