  • Those of you who've played a few tunes with me at a session have invariably commented on the sad state of my current flute case. Long story short, it did its job one fateful day and paid the iron price to protect my flute and I've repaid that sacrifice by keeping it held together with velcro straps all these years.
But I'm finally sending it to Valhalla and replacing it with this new custom rig from MyCaseBuilder. Not an ad, I just bought it cause I needed it. And I think it's gonna work out alright.
Check out mycasebuilder.com if you're interested in one yourself.

Your flute case did its job in protecting your flute. Twenty odd years ago I made a case for my small Baffetti melodeon (2 row diatonic button accordion), and shortly afterwards it got dropped in the street and the bottom of the case broke ... the melodeon however was unharmed, the case did its job. Since it was made out of plywood I was able to repair the case and my melodeon still gets carried around in it.

What do you do to store the wooden flutes when they need some additional humidity? Ive been doing whistle forever and just ordered a wooden flute and it comes with a fabric case but wondered how that would work with a sponge if it gets too dry

Do you still have the Mopane Windward? How does that fit into all of this?

I do - and it stays home most of the time because I need the keys of my McGee for gigs. The Windward is what I play/practice on most of the time though.

You say the low F is the biggest whistle you’ve got. Don’t you own a low D Sean? P.S. Great case mate 😊

Ahhh I do - the F is just the biggest that I travel/play gigs with. In fact I'm pretty sure my low D hasn't left the house since I moved into it 15 years ago.
