  • As a lifelong Halo fan, it's been rough watching the wild ride of 343's Halo games, but that doesn't mean it's too late to bring it all back together. From Forerunners and the Didact, to Precursors and the Flood, I firmly believe it is possible to write the next Halo game in a way that all story lines are wrapped up providing us all a well deserved conclusion to Halo and Master Chief's story.

Quite frankly I don’t think Halo has to end, it’s a large enough story to continue indefinitely like Star Wars or Warhammer 40k. The key is, instead of stretching out one arc indefinitely is working on many arcs horizontally

The human covenant war lasted like 28 years. That is such a massive stretch of time to have stories in be it games, books, shows, movies. Halo legends had the vast majority of their short stories set in this time period.
A new ODST game where your part of a squad of ODST’s late in the war using experimental semi powered armor, or a animated series following just the exploits of Blue team and can have episodes centered around them, the covenant, and even special ones around Johnson cause he is very much active during this time as well.
Halo does not have to keep perpetually moving forward when there is just so much setting to work with and make games and stories out of.

I agree that the Master Chief's storyline needs to come to an end. Halo of course can continue on in various forms due to the vast amounts of lore out there. There are plenty of opportunities to set a new series of games elsewhere in the story.
For the most part, I enjoyed your outline. I'm not a fan of the Xalanyn being closely associated with the Precusors though. Furthermore, I would love if Cortana was saved somehow. It's possible that fragments of her are still out there. Having her by John's side for his death would be a perfect ending.

Nah I don't think we can fix Halo's story at this point. Everything 343 does is walk back on previous plot points they themselves set up! While doubling down and keeping it canon. Doing this for a decade has this big mess of plot entanglement. I'd prefer a great purge it is a shame since there are individual stories that are enjoyable but the base infrastructure of lore and story isn't very strong under 343's management.

I really don't want Halo to end, but the story is definitely something that needs to end before 343 adds more plot points that lead nowhere and are dumped in poor ways and amount to nothing in the end.
The writing really needs some improvement to hopefully be great. One single plotline, no abandonment after one game, just keeping forward inspite of what's going on just so we get a proper conclusion for the story.

343 definitely made a huge mistake in never really making side story games like ODST or reach (besides HW2). Something like ODST 2 or another game set in the human Covenant war is sorely needed instead of just going forward nonstop with the Chief. Hell, if they want to stay with the Chief, go back and tell stories with him like First Strike or something. Not that they likely ever will when they've just started a new narrative with Infinite

  • @valzicplayz3845

343 can't used the old Bungie Halo stories since 343 rewritten the lore for Bungie Halo. Which is one of the reasons Halo 5 story sucked since they had to use random elements of the lore they rewritten.
Now mainline Halo I do believe has to come to a end and we should get Halo games of other story types such as:
    *• UNSC vs Insurrection*
*• Forrunner/ Human/ Flood war* ---> even though I don't like the change for the Forruners to be their own species you can still make a FPS game of that.
*• Banish vs the Arbiter faction*
Branch Halo to have other campaigns that doesn't always have to be UNSC vs Covenant type factions.
I would have been more interested if there were humans to fight in the Banish. Better yet let me play as a marine fighting the Insurrection.

And the best part? They FAILED to contain the flood, that last paragraph where it’s told from the floods point of view, that happens AFTER the nukes are dropped……and the flood/spartan…..they find a condor, condors have slip space capability
In all likelihood that flood took the condor to some isolated colony, and since this happened before the events of Halo 5 they probably laid low and moved slowly in that colony to not draw attention from the whatever lived on that planet……and then Cortana EMP blasted all of human planets
If we assume the flood used the Spartans knowledge to take the condor to a remote human colony laid low building its numbers veeeeery slowly and then Cortana EMP blasted that colony so they couldn’t get a warning out to anyone when the flood decided it could act without alerting the wider galaxy.
It’s VERY likely there is an entire human colony that has gone silent and everyone was so preoccupied with Cortana, the created, Atriox. No one bothered to investigate it. If that’s the case that planet beyond a shadow of a doubt already has a gravemind on it

So, the conflicts seen throughout the games, in your eyes, is a contest to the Precursors, to see who’s worthy to take on the Mantle Of Responsibility. Interesting. 👍🏻 Also, Chief’s story will eventually come to an end. That’s for certain. But, Halo is a vast universe with many stories to tell. So, 343 could make an anthology series of Halo games, chronicling some major events that happened in the lore outside of Reach, ODST, and Halo Wars 1 and 2. I would love to see games based on Contact Harvest, the rise of The Banished, the Human-Forerunner war, or even a game based on Arbiter Thel’ Vadam. So, the possibilities for Halo’s future after Chief are, no pun intended, infinite.

They need to create a game series for Halo based upon the early years of the galaxy. Have you play as an ancient human, precursor or forerunner in the game. And finish the storyline with Halo Infinite, and maybe come out with a new story that could follow the Eternity. They also could create a Post UNSC/Covenant war storyline, there are so many good books out there that could become awesome Halo games if they do it correctly. We just have to wait and see what 343 does with the games.

I think the next Halo game should be one where he finds the rest of Blue team on the other side of Zeta Halo and in the end, he dies saving Kelly from a big brute or Atriox or something. Or like, he dies to kill Atriox. Like Chief and Atriox are on the same Banished ship, Blue team and Chief have found the ship with Atriox on it and have fought their way to the control room where they find out it has a huge cannon. So they get the idea to blow up the ship with the cannon or crabs it and escape before it crashes or whatever. But, Atriox appears in the room just after Kelly and the rest have escaped. They fight to the death and Chief is on his last breath when he manages to crash the ship, killing BOTH him and Atriox

The chief has a good 40-50 years of service left in him. I would want to see him die or retire near the end of that at least. But halo as a universe shouldn’t end. It’s too vast, and it’s essentially Xbox’s only good franchise right now.

Doesn't need to end it just needs to follow and be coherent not completely flip the story and abandon the previous narrative with every new "Campaign" development. Most Halo fans will never listen to an audiobook much less read A book or comic. There is plenty to build off of for storytelling. Pre-Reach Noble 6, Grey Team, and/or the "Headhunters" is where I would start

    • @simpsondr12

I've got six of the books, and I certainly read more than the average person. I totally agree, they should not be acting like every single person has played every game (including ones in a totally different genre, Banished.) and read every book when they write the stories.
It's weird, because games that are actually adapted from books are generally easier to follow than the current Halo plot.
I like Infinite, I'd say the plot is better than 4 and much better than 5, but I still dream of a time that we could go back to the Forerunners being human, and other stuff that got retconned for no good reason

  • @3mpt7

The Halo storyline needs to be completely re-written, starting at Halo 3. Halo 3 has some of the best missions in the campaign, The Storm, The Ark, and The Covenant, but also some of the worst writing outside of the 343i games. It was more than a satisfactory ending for the Halo Trilogy--but the death of Miranda Keyes and Sergeant Johnson crippled the franchise (Miranda, in turn being a replacement for Jacob Keyes). The Ensemble writers for Halo Wars had the sense to plan for Sergeant Forge's return in Halo Wars 2--because they knew the story needed his support as a character to continue, rather than wither and make no progress like the Halo Wars we got. Also, killing off the Brutes and the Prophets in the Limited Extras was to wrap things up.

I got to disagree with you Cabezon.
there is no way to wrap up Halo without making the ending feel very ham-fisted (unless you retcon everything that came after 4 (except maybe the Xalanyn) need lots of rewriting). your proposed solution whilst I understand is a rough suggestion, is filled with unfillable plot holes and would feel very lacklustre. for example, the Xalanyn suddenly having a fleet, the created just up and vanishing (What about the prometheans and Warden Eternal?) or everyone getting along because of the flood (The forerunners couldn't even, and they were the same species with more or less one ideology, are you really going to just expect several different species, each with several different ideologies to act in mutual interest due to a common threat? ONI would use the reasoning (whether true or not) "that ship was infected with the flood" To cripple everyone but themselves, and they wouldn't be the only group to get this bright idea), suddenly finding another Janus key? finding Maethrillion and Abaddon? Finding Charom Hakor (which is missing btw)? suddenly finding a way to splinter the flood's hivemind (I do think this is actually a really good way to defeat the flood overall)? suddenly reconnecting with the forces on the ark? suddenly finding offensive Bias? there is just far too much going on for 3 games, might even be too much for 6 games. the biggest problems with halo 4, 5, and infinite, is a bunch of new shit coming out of nowhere, this is over 6 games of "new shit from nowhere". you can't unfuck the current mess the narrative is in by throwing literally everything into it, the many current plot threads need to be resolved or at least untwined before we even think about starting the final saga.
furthermore whilst Steve Downs is an amazing Master Chief, I have to disagree with characters being tied to their actors, recasts can be done very well if handled by competent people and given some narrative justification (like injuries making the voice a bit more Hoarse for VA, or aging characters changing their voice and appearance), the Star wars Prequels, Original Trilogy, and Clone Wars are a prime example of this (3 iterations of several characters that all make sense).
Finally your narrative analyse is lacking and knowledge subpar. The 3 act structure is an incredibly general observation, most stories only loosely follow it. Halo 2 & 3 don't really follow a 3-act structure because of how much of a shitshow development was, they are more (at least narratively) 2 parts of 1 narrative. you are absolutely right about the mantle being an overarching narrative of halo, but you portray some of your opinions (or misunderstandings) as facts in your recap of the Forerunner saga, that being said, I Strongly agree with the sentiment that the flood shouldn't (And don't) have any direct connection to the precursors. the Xalanyn-Precursor connection should mirror the Forerunner-Human connection (in case you don't know, forerunners and Humans share a common ancestor, it is hinted at that the precursors uplifted a species under the Homo genus (whether it be a different species or a portion of Homo Sapiens) performing genetic modifications to create a separate subservient species that will eventually inherit the galaxy once they move onto a different galaxy, but the forerunners were ultimately deemed inferior to humans). Chekov's Gun is ignores Red Herrings, a Mcguffin is something that drives the plot, but is unknown to the audience and doesn't get used, it isn't a step in resolving the conflict or the resolution of conflict, it's the goal, so in the situation you described, splintering the floods consciousness is the McGuffin. also, deaths don't add stakes in a story, because a death is final, you can't undo death without ruining your stakes and death itself just serves to show the stakes, unless the character which dies has some knowledge that only they know and is a crucial step in resolving the conflict. the deaths of Johnson, Miranda, and Noble Team are often considered a wise decision, but narratively speaking, their deaths only state, what has already been stated and shown several times, it is effectively fan-service for stakes. also you really want the finally to be Master Chief (a tier 3 entity) duelling with a Tier 0 entity, I can't possibly see how to not make this contrived? furthermore, your comparison to the Jesus sacrificing himself to rid humanity of the original sin is a bit misguided, the original sin is an obstacle, in the story of God and humanity, it isn't the end, it's more or less the end of act 2, humanity is now rid of the original sin, and now humanity prepares for judgment day, where they will all make it to heaven.
Also please for the love of God kill the pilot and the weapon, they are super annoying characters, I Severly dislike them.

    • @simpsondr12
      @simpsondr12 11 месяцев назад +1

The complaint that his knowledge is subpar is kind of hilarious. I've played every game, I've been a fan since I was a kid, I've read six books, I don't care to read all of them... I don't even know what "Xalanyn" is, I don't care at all what happened to the Eternal Warden.
You say that they need to resolve every thread... I don't think 343 cares. Like I'm not a generic 343 hater, I liked Infinite quite a lot, but given how much new stuff they add in every single game, without resolving the previous games... they aren't planning out a finale, they don't have a plan to resolve those things.
God I actually hope you're trolling, because you sound extremely pretentious.
Finally, what the hell is wrong with the weapon and the pilot? They were more likeable than any new character introduced in the last two games.

I've been working on an FPS that started as a spiritual sequel to Halo 3. It's about Humanity intervening in the Covenant Civil War on the side of the Sangheli. Except it's actually the League of Nations, and the aliens were not bound by religion, but by nationalism, economic reasons, and overwhelming military force. The League of Nations in this universe prevented WWII, and Stalin never ruled the Soviet Union. Something happened to the Japanese Empire, but I'm not sure what.
343 broke Halo the moment they threw out the obvious sequel hook in Halo 3. They threw away the most interesting possible story, and a good way to de-escalate the stakes. Imagine fighting in A Sangheli city, surrounded by a truly alien culture, but understanding that they are our only hope for an ally. Against the massive Covenant Loyalist forces of about 12 ships. Because the rest were destroyed. Or are busy putting down rebellions.
