    It’s Icy Strait Point, part of Chichagof island. There are other small communities on this island but ISP, short distance of town of Hoonah, is cruise ship destination. Very good coverage. I am glad you didn’t miss the town, many people do. That little island you pointed out is sacred place where locals burry their family members. No visitors, and accessible by boats only. I hope you’ll come back to ISP and Hoonah. It’s a magical place.

    Thanks for sharing. This is one of the best videos I've seen on Icy Strait Point! Very informative and helps to plan our day in port. Question for you, if you know, do guides always go with groups walking the trail, or did he just happen to be there? We're wondering about bear spray, because if we're walking the trail up on the mountain alone, I'd feel more comfortable with bear spray on us - especially after seeing this. 😉Do you know if they sell or rent it?

    • @TooMuchLuggage
      @TooMuchLuggage  2 года назад +1

      I don’t think you’d be allowed to bring bear spray with you on the cruise ship. But A friend of mine said he brought his diving knife and he would collect it from security when he left the ship to go dive, But check. We were under the impression we would be allowed to walk down without a guide if there were no bears in the area. I think there is always bears in the area . At the top there was a security guard not a guide well armed to make sure the bears didn’t come up to the top and that people didn’t attempt to hike down. Thank you so much for the nice comment and the kind words about our video. We feel so wonderful when we read comments like this. We are always glad to help.

    • @TooMuchLuggage
      @TooMuchLuggage  2 года назад +1

      I did see bear spray for sale in some of the towns like Ketchikan and Juneau. But I don’t remember seeing it at one of the gift shops in icy straight point

    • @angbee72
      @angbee72 2 года назад +1

      @@TooMuchLuggage Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking ... we probably wouldn't be able to bring it back on the ship, so it'd be fabulous if places like this would just rent it out. But I hadn't seen any videos where people showed that in Hoonah. I'd love to do the mountain gondola, but like you all mentioned - probably wouldn't if trails weren't open ... and if they were, I'd really want some bear spray or a guide nearby.🙂 I'll look into whether the ship lets you check it with security. Thank you very much for your detailed response and have a great night.
