The largest population of Chinese are in Taiwan followed by NYC. How can you tell tea is amazing while it is still blistering your mouth and scalding the taste buds? There is no bean curd inside a bean curd wrap. The wrap is made of bean curd into a noodle like consistency.. Sheeeeeeesh!
Chinese food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world. It is known for its diverse flavors, use of fresh ingredients, and emphasis on balance and harmony in each dish. From spicy Sichuan dishes to delicate Cantonese dim sum, Chinese cuisine offers a wide range of options for any palate. Additionally, many Chinese dishes have a long history and cultural significance, making them not only delicious but also rich in tradition. Whether enjoyed at a local restaurant or cooked at home, Chinese food is sure to satisfy
The Egg Tarts (Pastéis de Nata) are actually from Macau, a former Portuguese Colony near Hong Kong and were introduced to the Chinese by the Portuguese. You can still find the egg tarts in Portugal and Brazil as well. Remnant of the Portuguese Empire!
Sam Woo's is a place of pilgrimage. I like how you go through the kitchen to get into the restaurant. It is so surreal. Not sure what to make of that Feng Shui setting. In any case, Sam Woo's is a party place. Can't get enough of it.
3:25 - That looks like Cheung Fun, a specialty of Guangdong province in China. I live in Dongguan and you can find this made out on the streets in the morning! So good!
Dim sum is great with numerous varieties. Even pork bun could be steamed or deep fried at the bun base added with white wine. That's an invention by Hong Kong chef. Try!
Wow, what a tour, some unique food especially honey prawns with walnuts, at least I never heard about this combination of prawn and dry fruit. Some of the Chinese dishes might contain almonds and peanuts.
Many of the Chinese food in America that does not exist in China do exist in the Philippines (beef brocoli, chopsuey, egg rolls, Chowmien noodles cooked in American style, orange chicken....etc.)
I am Chinese live in central California and I go to SF few times a year...I eat and buy things that I can't buy where I live...I miss all the dim sum and bakery foods... Yummmmm...👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤❤😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
FYI: NYC has the largest Chinese population outside of Asia. It also has the largest Chinatown in the USA. San Francisco is the oldest Chinatown in the US. Google it, I just did out of curiosity. Great video. Keep up the great work. 😊
Wow the SF Chinatown website said its the oldest and that it has the largest Chinese population: thank you for letting me know I was wrong. Can’t always be right looking online 😓
Davidsbeenhere I am retired in Las Vegas but have family in NY. When I visit my family, they take me to the two Chinatown’s that NY has. The Old Chinatown in Manhattan and the New Chinatown in Brooklyn. Don’t need google, just look around and see for yourself. Been to Shanghai, China. The shopping for Chinese items and for Chinese food is even better in NY than in Shanghai. Go figure. Enjoy your videos. 😊
The dragon show is so cool, man! We have a Chinatown here in Chicago, and it's one of my favorite places to visit. Love seeing all of the culture and artwork there. There are so many options on that first menu, it would probably take me forever to decide what I wanted! Looks like you made some awesome choices. The rice noodle roll looks and sounds outstanding, and so does the skin roll. I've never had egg custard, let alone in a tart, but I've heard lots of great things about it. I love fortune cookies, though, and I know I would lose my mind if I had that big one! My stomach literally started growling the moment I saw the honey walnut prawns. Haha, I think I need to go eat dinner! 😂 Great video as always, and I'm looking forward to the rest of your California adventure!
S.F Chinatown for me is such a comfortable place to be. I have been all over the Chinese speaking world. But the world of S.F Chinatown is like no other. It is like a whole different planet. I know the places you've been to in your video. I go there many times. I always have good conversations with the older generation. They have a brilliant sense of humor. I like when they get sarcastic. They are so hilarious. If you ever get to know anybody of the older generation, go to their favorite Dim Sum restaurant. The men are easy going. But, the grandmas pounce on the basket trolly that just came out of the kitchen. DON'T GET IN THEIR WAY. I have seen fights break out. Not too bad. But hilarious. If you ever go to Dublin, California, go to the Willow Tree. There is a Shrimp and Walnut dish that is out of this world. I don't know what they do to the walnuts, they are not crunchy. They are fluffy and airy inside. The mix of the Shrimp and Airy walnuts are like you have gone to Heaven. I am not sure how they make the walnuts that way. I am still experimenting. Also, Fire Cracker soup. My favorite. I am still experimenting with the way they make the rice for the soup. If you haven't tried it, do so. You will fall in love with that soup.
Great video David. Yeah SF has the oldest Chinatown in America and its great location, but have you ever visted the oldest Chinatown in the world, in Manila Philippines, its over 450 years old? I visited a few years back, its all updated but great fun, not as large area wise as the SF Chinatown.
Davidsbeenhere Sorry David to correct you again but that is a lion costume, not dragon, believe me. You can Google Chinese lion dance and will see photos of lion dance and costume. Chinese lion dances are traditionally performed in ceremonies to bring good luck and fortune such as Chinese New Year, business grand openings, weddings, etc.
One thing I was told about food (No matter where you go), DON'T ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS. I have seen how foods are made all over the world. Yes, if it says Pork and Shrimp dish. YEEAH, just shut up, eat, and let the fantasy of pork and shrimp take over. Thus, advise, always let the placebo effect of pork and shrimp make you drift off to the world of fantasy.
This made me very hungry. I loved dumplings and pork buns in Shanghai but in South Africa theres not much choice available, basically pork and chives but 90 percent chives

Walnuts and shrimps must be delicious.

Sam Woo's is great too. A smaller restaurant though and no dim sum

除非去华人开的店,而且顾客大部分是华人的店才能吃到真正的中国菜,否则都是改良过的美式中国菜
Too much noise in restaurant when you was eating , I think it would be better if you dub it latar.
Those were lions, not dragons
Odd how those kids have lion dance shirts on but you keep saying dragon dance.
Jadet T You got it all wrong.. It's called a Lion Dance, Dragon dance is a whole different thing
