  • The Red Arrows practice in the winter season with REDS 1-5 along with REDS 6&7, practicing their designated sequences.
This is the Red Arrows final season at RAF Scampton, where they will move to Waddo (RAF Waddington). The Royal Air Force Aerobatics Team (RAFAT) or better known to us all as The Red Arrows, practice their excellence to keep being excellent. Their motto carries the word "ECLAT" meaning excellence, but you cannot just earn it alone, you must be that very word. The Red Arrows today, practice daily, to be that very motto, be that brilliance in the sky, be that precision, be that very display that WE all LOVE.
Serial numbers in the video are:
    Reds 6 and 7:
    XX323
    XX325
    Reds 1-5
    XX295
    XX219
    XX232
    XX245
    XX319
    The Pilots:
Red 1 : Sqn Ldr Tom Bould
Red 2: Flt Lt Stuart Roberts
Red 3: Flt Lt Patrick Kershaw
Red 4: Flt Lt Will Cambridge
Red 5: Sqn Ldr Nick Critchell
Red 6: Sqn Ldr Gregor Ogston
Red 7: Flt Lt James Turner
Red 8: Flt Lt Damon 'DAMO' Green
Red 9: Flt Lt David Simmonds
Officer Commanding: Wing Commander David Montenegro OBE MA RAF
With head to head, spaghetti breaks and that performance and sounds of that Hawk T1, you’ll love this video. Team Ted were also trying out a new lens from Olympus and we are naming it the "Ted Lens" because it covers 12-100mm (MFT) and saves us a lens change.
So a little history of the Red Arrows that some may or may not know. So the Reds were founded in 1964 at RAF Fairford. Just before things turned red, the Reds were unofficially yellow so to speak. There were unofficial display teams and one in particular were the RAF YellowJacks Display team. They were an unofficial display team using yellow Folland Gnats. When the Red Arrows were officially founded, they used the Folland Gnat (inherited from the YellowJacks) as their display aircraft with a team of 7. They chose a colour change to red. In 1966, the team increased to 9 and therefore significantly developing their 'Diamond Formation'. Then in 1979, the Reds changed aircraft to the Hawk that we see today. However, the Hawk T1, which the Red Arrows use, is due to be retired from service March 2022. So what will the Red Arrows fly instead? Well, the Red Arrows have been granted to use the Hawk T1 until around 2030, so we can still enjoy the T1 for a few more years. My guess, and purely a guess is that they might use the Hawk T2.
The Red Arrows have also changed home a few times too, starting at RAF Little Rissington, RAF Cranwell and with the current home at RAF Scampton, they are due to move to RAF Waddington at the end of 2022.
A RED 10? Yes, there actually is a tenth pilot and Hawk. Not only is the pilot fully trained acting as a supervisor, the jet too can become a reserve in itself. The pilot of Red 10 is the safety supervisor and these days, they have with them a photographer or videographer. This year's Red 10 is SQUADRON LEADER ADAM COLLINS, who has had the privilege of flying Ted! Yes, Ted has flown with the Red Arrows on the 5th September 2021 from Bournemouth to RAF Scampton in XX188.
Yes, it’s true, the TED CONINGSBY SQUADRON patch is now available on PRE-ORDER and will be ready mid JANUARY 2022. Superbly made by SQUADRON PRINTS, who supply genuine RAF patches, this is exciting times for everyone who has been supporting Ted throughout his journey. Now that's what I'm talking about. The RAF jewels. Red Arrows practice! They move like magic as if the Display is performed on rails. Symmetry and motion in perfect harmony. Makes you proud.

We were trying out a new lens too on this day too. The team have called it the "Ted Lens"! It can be wide for my scenes, and then they can zoom in for the aircraft!
      Thanks again
