- Graham Allison is the former Dean of the @HarvardKennedySchool and an important voice in American foreign and security policy. Together with the former Director of the CIA, General David Petraeus, Allisson joined the #MSC2020 to discuss the great power rivalry between the United States and China. Assessing interstate dynamics between two hegemons since the times of Thucydides, Allison provides his analysis on why and how Washington and Beijing should learn from history and cooperate with each other.

During Korea war, Chinese had created a genius way to avoid full scale war with US when they help their ally North Korea. China sent their troops and call them Chinese people voluteer army. Then the Korea war was limited in peninsula and it did not escalating to nuclear war. If US decide to stop PLA take over Taiwan, they can send American people voluteer army to Taiwan.
President Trump will agree with this idea, as Taiwan will pay "American people voluteer Army".
Is there a common "land" border between US and Taiwan? If no, the troops carrying ships and C17 planes will serve as sitting ducks and wild geese for the PLA missiles!
That would be a totally difference. To take over Taiwan for Chinese, is a fatal battle, for American, it's just one of battles in overseas. from this view, you will know who will win. but for china, we don't do that by now, we need to develop ourself. the much strong we are, the more worries American govertment will balance to send the volutter army to TW.
They already do this in Ukraine! I think China will send the Chinese People Volunteer Army to US soil instead.
I think the more salient larger point of Thucydides went over your head. When you referenced Steve Bannon as one of your consults, that explained it. Thucydides was a general and historian who lost everything and was an expat when he wrote his book. His perview was vast and detailed with great depth and humanity. Allison and Bannon are clowns by comparison. You don't understand anything about Thucydides, humanity, or war. Steve Bannon????? Give me a break!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

China has only one objective and that is to provide a comfortable life for its citizens and to protect her territories which includes Taiwan and some small islands in the South China Sea. The Chinese keep saying that they want a peaceful world to do business, of manufacturing goods and services to increase its GDP. Their powerful weapons are for self defense only not to use for invading any country at all. As a person of ethnic Chinese origin born and raised in another country and understanding some Chinese culture, that throughout the 4000 years of history it is not their interest at all to take over another country. I hope with the current constant and repetitive narrative by Donald Trump about Covid 19 is from Wuhan and wanting to search for the evidence; very much like the case of Iraq when US keep saying that Iraq have the nuclear weapon ending up a war against Iraq but not finding any nuclear weapon. The only difference is, this time the risk is so high that even if US win there will be nobody left both in US and China. Xi mentioned that China will not attack anybody first but she will response with all they have if they are being attack. It is better to study and understand the Chinese culture and negotiate and win-win deal for the sake of humanity.

Brainwashed chinese. China does not have peaceful relationship with HK and Taiwan. Expansion will not stop there as they manipulate governments, social media platforms and extradite those that disagree to re-education camps.

@@hodoprime u need to educate yourself. Both China and the west have their own faults. But if history is an indicator, western imperialism is far more destructive than what China is trying to do. China is pouring in billions to help countries develop and eradicate poverty. The west is accusing this as a debt trap, a new form of colonialism. If that is the case, why dont they simply try to match the billions that china gave to these countries to help them develop?
@Agus Wijaya am sick and tired of hearing China not invading other country/countries, look at their own history first. A great civilization is imposing one's ideas, beliefs, traditions and even their race to even to their vanquished nation. That is true for the Greek, Roman and true for the first dynastic rule of the Middle Kingdom. Even the Americans wanted everyone to eat McDonald's.
