Ross Kemp on Roland!
Thanks for answering my question! I do agree that the the TB-3's modern age flexibility (MIDI, USB etc.) maybe more important than the actual emulation. Apart from that I heard some lines that sounded pretty impressive. And yes, the smile on the face is almost instant. :) What I really don't understand/like is the lack of dedicated Env. Mod. and Decay knobs. Anyways, the smile is what matters, I guess. :) Thanks for the videos again...
BTW great review guys!
(i own both now!) really happy with them!
The separate track thing on the TR-8 is awesome cos I did 1 track where i recorded a kick share and hats all at once and it sounded like shit intact until I learned the separate channel thing I layered my percussion. I own both of these and am happy with them both ..
According to this demo - TR 707 sounds will be available in a future firmware update. Roland TR-8 Demonstration
Yes I do know what you mean
So we're just gonna ignore this dudes MacBook has a mustache?
man, the addition of 707 samples made me make a very loud noise. 707 has some of my favorite drum sounds on it.
The biggest shame with this is the lack of memory slots and the lack of per step parameter locks like the old korg electribes and elektron machinedrum.
@Linear A &TheSoundEngineAF: imagine they propose many sound libraries (ACB based) from all classic TR and even allow sound designers to have access to the code to provide more stuffs (as NI with maschine bundles).
This will be smart, kind of AppStore in the music hardware instruments world (if quality is there), success guaranteed.
This is maybe why price is quite attractive ...
Could samples be imported to the Tb-3 when plugged into the computer with a software like machine 2.0. This would open the possibilities to a larger library of sounds when performing live using it as a sequencer.
is this the guy from general midi?
akillas karamitros Oh yes ;-)
Ross Kemp knows his shit...
You can tune overall pitch of the 808 kick, great! You can't with the 909 kick? Or can you? Haven't seen or heard it in any if the demonstrations so far!
Great vid. One question. Can you access the 808 congas, claves and maracas as these were shared and switchable on the original tr 808?
Best video ever !!!!!!!!
I really like them...but 16 saveable pattern just sucks!!! I sometimes use close to 16 patterns on ONE track. Intro-break-main-fillin1/2 that's already 5! With memory cheap these days that should be unlimited.
*****
Yeah... I don't agree with that. I have mine for over a month now and only 16 patterns it is a stupid limitation. It actually limits the creativity on live play because I program 16 patterns in less than 15 min. Other than that I love this drum machine.
It has 32 Pattern = 16 Pattern in x 2 Memory Banks anyway. So it is not all that bad. But I just feel like the times of erasing data should be over even on a retro machine!
*****
I do muting and all the little tricks. Muting doesn't create a new pattern of the same instrument. Only a new pattern does that. Further in live play I work with at least 2 extra synth and there are not enough hands to trigger mute buttons and play the synth. For example a good fill-in snare roll itself can take 4 different Patterns!
Do you know if all the knobs/sliders/buttons send and receive MIDI data or just the drum kit buttons? Ideally, looking to see if one could MIDI record a 'performance' on the td-8 into a DAW.
Has Roland set a release date yet? I haven't seen it anywhere
If you had a TR-8 and two TB-3's how could you link them up? There is only one USB socket on each? Or can you link the TR-8 and the 1st TB-3 using USB and add the extra TB-3 using a midi cable?
Hi Guys and Girls
I was wondering can i pan my tb3 patterns individually?
Bye Merijn!
at the 25 min mark, They recorded separate tracks... is that audio track coming out through USB? I want to record my in Logic through usb...
With the original TR-808 you were able to create a Zap sound via the Trigger Outs this sound was made iconic by Electro Producer (Egyptian Lover) Is this zap sound possible with the TR8 or did the people at Roland completely miss out on this essential element of the TR-808?
What exactly do you mean "via the trigger outs"? Sounds like he sent this sound to an external processor that turned it into a zap. You can only get the same sound if you have the same processor he used.
in logic pro9 if I create 14 tracks ( when the TR-8 is the sound card ) I don't get any signal from the master of the TR-8 in Logic so I am not able to record any of the fx from the device or the scatter to chop up at a later date ...resample etc. .. is my unit broken? because if it is it needs to go back.
Hi can the TB-3 transmit all its real time functions over midi? to external sequencer etc?
Does the TR8 have the ability to spread pitch of indvidual sounds over a external keyboard or sequencer? For example If i am using a external sequencer it would be more than handy to play an drum sound as a bass line.
would love to know if anyone has sucsessfully midi sync'd the tr8 with a boss rc300...
whats up with system-1?
anyone know if you can send a midi out for an external instrument control while retaining the use of the other sound ie how the 808,909 could be used to trigger something like a sh101
Is the USB Cable delivered with the TR8 or must I buy an extra one? I did not find any information about this. My second question: If I connect the TR8 to the TB3 via midi (TR8 out to TB3 in) and press start/stop on the TR8 will the TB3 also start/stop playing? just asking because I'm a midi noob ;)
yes it does work both start and stop together tr8 out to tb3 in that's how I did it anyway and usb lead = no you don't get a lead with either machines
Can one connect all the AIRA family via midi and will they will sync in time?
Yes both the TR-8 and TB-3 will sync via MIDI. There's also a separate Roland Sync box coming that will sync with the old hardware.
Point Blank Music School Thanks!
I don't SEE what you mean. I do HEAR what you mean though 😂
can somebody please tell me how i can save my patterns on the tr-8?
thanks!
Did you ever find out how one can save patterns on the td-8??? I'd really like to know!! thx
Christina Amar yeah i did, you cant save them on the tr-8
The patterns you make are as is when you power off..when powered back on those patterns are there, but when you make changes the pattern is "overwritten" and stays so untill you make further changes. You can have up to 16 patterns if i am correct.
In the new firmware you can now save your patterns, only they call it "locking" your patterns. Just keep pattern select pressed while turning the tempo dial to locked or off.
hi im wanting to sync a tr8 and tb3 is it amatter of just plugging cable in or do I have to alter any settings any info would help
MIDI out of the TR 8 to MIDI in of the TB 3. If this doesn't already work the way you want, check the MIDI settings of the TR 8. Keep pattern select pressed while switching on. You get access to the boot mode settings. Make sure step keys one and two are lit and move the tempo dial to select a MIDI channel number (default is 10), just make sure this is not set to off! Press play (blinking) to get to play mode. The TB 3 should now start along with the TR 8 when you're playing a pattern. If this still doesn't work you might have to change the MIDI settings of your TB 3, select a channel and maybe set the clock from internal to external but I don't have the TB 3, so I can't tell you exactly how that works there. You don't need to set the TB 3 to the same channel number as the TR 8 if you want to tempo sync, only if you want to send note messages, which wouldn't make much sense.
thanks for reply quite a long bit of info you gave me many thanks I run the midi lead from tr8 out to the tb3 in pressed start and both worked, im really glad you took the time to do your videos to explain to people many thanks
ask him what he means
do you think sample import might be possible ?
the only thing stopping me from buying one, seriously needs more sounds on the drums than whats stock...
I'm not holding my breathe about it, but I would love that as some super-secret firmware update in the future. Like that plug out function in the system-1. I'm still buying one :)
***** Well if there's a way for them to put in new sounds...someone will figure something out. It would be nice to have 808 style envelope control on any sample.
SORRY BUT (KORG) ARE THE MASTERS OF MUSIC PRODUCTION AND DRUM MACHINES THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING THESE FOR YEARS SO IF YOU WANT THE BEST TYPE (KORG) IN YOUR RUclips SEARCH..
+DARREN STONE MUSIC Most of the classic tracks use Roland gear, so...
