I think he did. He had some personal issues and lost his regular place up front. A problem was Whelan would play well alongside Dion Dublin up front. But wouldn't play that well alongside Huckerby. I think it's because Dion was a holding player who would help set up other forwards. They ended up playing Whelan as an attacking midfielder or as a sub towards the end of his time at Coventry, which didn't suit him well. Had they kept him alongside Dion i think Whelan would have started scoring again.
BVargas78 great post mate. When I saw whelan come through at Leeds i thought he was destined for the top. Must have been exciting times for Coventry fans 1996 with the players Ron Atkinson was signing
Yeah, he put together a good side, Gordon Strachan, Gary Mac etc etc. Wonder why it never really jelled. Always had a soft spot for Coventry after you beat Tottscum in the 1987 FA Cup Final. (I'm Arsenal).
Five seasons in the Midlands does that to a man. I agree he does have the tone of a journey in his accent. Definitely not the usual twang of a lad born in Leeds.
@@lesrowley1 it's really strange, sounds sort of South African at times. Still a great player and a good lad, who didn't quite hit the heights his talent deserved
Legend our noel get innnnn!!!!
As a Coventry fan I remember the good old days with young Noel Whelan. A great guy.
BVargas78 do you think he done well at Coventry

Yeah, it was. And even though our positions in the tables back then didn't always reflect it, we were playing some exciting football.

Whelan, Whelan, whelan
Whelan come back to Cov mate as we are suffering a goal famine.
Whelan's accent is really weird, not sure if he picked up a mix of dialects living in the Midlands
