I don't mind the videos on reviewing products and getting paid to do so as long as you are honest in your review on the pros and cons of the product. To me, truly selling out is some of these other RUclipsrs trying to grift their viewer to buy their course or someone else's sponsored product. Your credibility is your #1 asset.
I used to watch your videos waaaay back in the day. Seeing your channel today, it does seem unfortunate that every video is a sponsored one. It's up to you. Everyone has the right to do what they will with their channel.
Sponsored videos = no problem. I got some of my best purchases from sponsored posts / reviews. I won't buy something I don't need but for example it was YOU who alerted me to the possibility of getting a really low cost phone service. I now pay $15-ish a month for a more than adequate data allowance that I don't even need. Or someone else (on another YT channel) picked up a specific item in the exact week that I was looking for something just like that. Or living in California we are always concerned about power outages, so reviews of batteries and / or solar options definitely are something that one day I might come back here and binge watch. .. a few years ago I needed a folding bicycle. If you had had a sponsored product video reviewing a folding bicycle then it would have been super useful. So you do whatever works for you, it is impossible to make everyone happy all the time.
Really appreciate this video, to be blunt which I hope is helpful I used to watch the channel a lot and it totally feels like a series of commercials lately. The proportion is so heavily biased toward both full videos ads, and cutaways where it feels like the content was just winged with the real purpose being a shout out to a sponsor, it affects credibility and makes you feel less genuine. Like this isn't a community your building around you with some monetizing sprinkled in, but the only interest is to farm affiliate links or something. It's your channel so it's yours to use as you like, but that's where at least my mind is and I miss the genuine content enough to type all this stuff. This video makes me happy.
Yes I like the idea of using the electric bike and you showing us the location... More interesting that you reviewing the bike in your garage... To see it use is much more interesting.. Always thoughtful content Francis!
A real example of me finding a sponsored video useful and actually bought from the sponsor is Ali Abdaal's video. He incorporated it so well its useful for audiences like us. That's inspiring for me in terms of learning how Ali incorporated the sponsorship into his videos.
Really glad you addressed the FIRE issue. I always thought it was odd that you say you are retired but then you're spending all this time making videos. That's not retired. When I did FIRE I did it for real. I stopped working. That said, I really do enjoy your videos, even the product reviews. I think it would be better if you really bought, liked, used the product but that's not realistic all the time. As long as you are being honest and not trying to just sell me something. I love your DIY videos too! I hope you continue to make relevant content as you are one of my favorite RUclipsrs.
I like the idea of a tour or something that you would buy full price and an announcement that this is sponsored, but you really want to support the product. TY
I wished RUclips would force creators to tag the promo part of the videos so it would be automatically trimmed out for Premium subscribers just like regular adds. I find really thoughtful when some creators put a timer or a progress bar during the promo part of the video, makes a little easier to fast forward. The meme "When your advertising interrupts my video...It just makes me hate your product" is for real IMHO".
I think product review videos are fine as long as the product isn't something that's clearly harmful and the information you are providing is truthful. I actually enjoyed your vacuum robot video. It was detailed and funny.
I watch your videos for your financial and engineering views. If you can make a review with these as the basis for your reviews. I don’t mind sponsored videos too. That would be a unique angle too. Talk about the engineering side of the product and then the financial part both for the company and the end user ❤️😊
Hey Francis, I really wished you held on to all your TSLA stock a while back. We bought at around the same time. I went all in TSLA when it was $15 split adjusted and now the investment is multi-million in value. I am now selling covered calls on them to generate around $300-600k in passive income each year. I could have sold them at the peak at $400, but I would have to pay huge taxes. Now with passive incomes generated from covered calls, I get recurring incomes without having to sell my shares. I will keep collecting premiums while I wait for my strike price to hit.
I watch Dr. Dray dermatologist and she the only one I trust when it comes to prime day. If she says I need something I buy it 😂. Because she back up her claims with first hand knowledge and just mention products she done videos on. Also she made an Amazon list with about 5 items. That’s it. To be honest I kinda trust you. I even follow you on Amazon. As long as you use the item; back up your claims with details are the only things I care about. I follow other creators and even though I see what they are pushing I fast forward and only see if they find something on sale that I already want to buy. Other than that I don’t buy it. And there’s some creators that every month the come out with my best Amazon finds. 😅 ever month is too much on top of her every video being sponsored. I use to the videos being sponsored but I trust more those that hardly have sponsors and then let me know what they find on occasion.
Just curious, when you create other channels, do you create it under the same main channel email address? Like a brand channel? or do you use a separate gmail address?
The people who made their money in the stock market or influencing the last 10 years will be hard to replicate in the future. Those were historical gains.
Do you recall what subscriber count you were when you had your first sponsor? How much did they pay you? And what helped you get that first sponsor - were you plugging it as an ask in the videos?
Hi there! I don’t mind sponsored videos, unless it is a video solely about the product and pushing this product to buy it, however, I do feel that if a product will be used for a video idea that you have or have had before, and this product will enable this idea to materialize, that would be awesome.
I think sponsored videos are okay from non-sales-minded creators such as yourself. I watch you because of similar mindset around frugalness, and I appreciate your experimental side. I see sponsored videos as a way of supporting you, which I am in favor of.
I agree with the Adobe guy. I will watch your e-bike video but my feedback may not matter on that one because I don't like to watch sightseeing videos.
Please do "Day of a Starbucks/Peets coffe Barista" or " Day as a Uber/Lyft/Instacart driver " I think you might want to challenge yourself. BTW i first came accross your Channel on " Day as a Amazon warehouse employee " Alternatively consider making a non-video podcast with your FIRE friends if they are comfortable. Best wishes💐
This has got to be the first video in a long time show up in my subscriber feed. I thought you just dropped off of RUclips. I have no problems with sponsorships. I think the problem I have as a viewer is that most RUclipsrs or social media content creators don't intergrate product properly or it becomes obvious the company has brought you out for your audience. I don't care about or need a generator or Ebike but if it's integrated properly it doesn't matter. For example, using something that ties into frugal living, sightseeing or activity. It's not weird to see an Ebike sponsorship as you are strolling to see all the bank, restaurant or business closings in an area. It's not weird to see meal service sponsorship if you are showing meal prep for week, frugal recipes or talk about cost effectiveness when food inflation is here. I watched a frugal Virginia homesteading channel who perfectly intergrated a generator and tool sponsorship by showing how they prepped before leaving and fixing property after hurricane. Sponsorships have to make sense with video topic and integration or you lose subscribers as it does come across as "selling out"
I think every youtuber should make this kind of video. I think with the landscape of the internet it's totally normal to do sponsored videos. If you're taking sponsors what your viewers don't care about then they're just going to skip over it and continue with the video. I think many people now have the expectation that the youtube they're watching is going to have some kind of ad in their videos at some point. So in that sense I don't think you sold out. If you did the crypto stuff or partnered with a company that has a shady past like betterhelp, then personally I would be disappointed and/or unsub. So as long as they're non-intrusive and short for ads you don't have a real passion for it's fine. If you have a genuine interest I'd like to see longer videos like some of the battery reviews. I don't know if I agree with the consensus that I/we don't want any sponsored videos. Mainly cause I understand it take time /money to make videos so in a sense I would expect there to be some kind of sponsor in the videos. However, it's exactly like you said it should be something you actually support, maybe you're a fan of, something you're passionate about etc.. that makes the sponsorship a little more tolerable.
There's nothing wrong with honest sponsored videos. I just watch the videos I like and skip the others. I liked the vacuum and the lawn mower videos but I skipped the power station videos. I don't see a problem unless you tell us to buy a shitcoin to get rich quick or something crazy like that.
If you had a separate pay to view channel with 100% promo free content, no one complaining would actually pay to watch. 😂. Cut back some and enjoy yourself!
I have no respect and will never return to a "financial" channel that sells out. One recent case I'm made aware of is "Ticker Symbol: You". He was an awful investor before, and now he sold out to some penny stock from Canada.

BeatTheBush, just put a disclosure and tell us its a sponsored product and keep doing sponsors. I only have issues is you lie about using it or tell us its really good but it isn't or if its FTX.. 😊
I don't understand how you're still so stressed. With your investments shouldn't you have been seeing your net worth grow or remain the same? I think you need to do a calculation on time left to live versus net worth and you will notice you are much shorter on time than the money. Perhaps try to change your view on having to listen to those who want to dangle money in your face differently as they don't realize that the time left hugging trees greatly exceeds the time left doing the nonsense they want you under.
I'm not watching this crap make something about me saving dollars and getting out of poverty and give me a click bait title so I don't regret every time I told someone about your channel
use and sponsor whatever you want as it effects your life or makes your life easier/funner
Graham Stephan used to push anything for a few grand.
didn't he shill a youtuber bank thing
One of the worse in term of ethic.
And this is why i unsubscribe to these channels. This channel was good and I was learning a lot.
Graham Stephan randomly starting tell people to vote Republican because of tax policy and that was the last straw lol
I don’t think he intentionally pushed bad sponsors he just thought the cash was worth it and the sponsors were frauds
"Sometimes they need this money to live on." YIKES! Honestly can't believe you said that with a straight face.
I don't mind the videos on reviewing products and getting paid to do so as long as you are honest in your review on the pros and cons of the product. Yup, good move. It's nice to see real-life application of products in a review

Sponsorblock chrome extension.
@@dave597 it works but unfortunately I pretty much watch RUclips from my Appletv.
@@SrIF365ah, on TV I use fire stick and smarttube which comes with sponsorblock
The new skip feature is somewhat effective, it allows you to skip the sections other users often do (usually the ad read)
seriously sponsorblock is life changing. Its community driven but generally pretty good especially for videos with lots of views.
Just be your self ! I like when you talk about finances
I personally usually don't watch those videos. Of course, there should be some kind of balance. Just follow your heart.
Good move. Pushing cheap Chinese junk is a depressing lifestyle.
Yeah plus makes terrible content

Hard word results in achievements that lasts much longer than hedonistic pursuits.
