0:56 - 1:06 (and all other parts in the song that repeats that melody) reminds me strongly of Death Mountain in A Link To The Past (I looked it up and confirmed). I don't see any Metroid in it, though.
Before I get any replies, listen to "ひもろぎ、むらさきにもえ" (Stage 4 theme of Story of Eastern Wonderland) and then listen to the boss theme of Final Fantasy 3.

I had never really listened to the original song, until now.
The remix is very good, but a small bit of the melody reminded me a bit of Legend of Zelda, but I can't but my finger on which song.
