One thing I love about the Collector's theme is that it is completely different from anything heard previously on the show. My jaw dropped when I heard the techno beats for the first time. It really emphasized how different the Collector was to anyone else in the show, even from his string & woodwind-heavy theme during his appearances behind the mirror, when his true nature was not revealed to us and we only knew him as Bill Cipher with the mentality of a kid. I also like how, given that this theme feels a bit like something you'd find in a 90s video game, he was the player character in a world now subject to his games, setting up the parallel they have with Luz, who previously saw herself as essentially the main character in an isekai RPG at the show's start.
i've just watched the whole owl house series and i have to say that the boiling isles under collector's control are like weirdmaggedon from gravity falls, but the reverse one. every single detail: turning people into puppets like bill turned people into statues, a huge castle in the sky, but only everything is filled with childish naivety. it's like the apocalypse, only inside out, and I love it so much... the collector is like if bill was mixed with mabel or like reverse bill, it's so cool
they really cooked with the collectors games. such a good theme. generally speaking, the collector is such a good villain. he's not particularly evil, it's just that he values life less than any character or human ever could. everything is just for his entertainment.
I love him as a foil to belos, because meanwhile they both don't value life, in Belos case it's due to maliciousness. In the collector's case it's literally because he doesn't know better.
my favorite collector lines are "to you who stray so far from home, to me who's trapped beneath these bones, we'll play forever me and you when you paint the land in 9 bright hues" and "i just wanted a friend who wouldn't lie to me or trick me but everyone's the same.. king lied belos lied even they lied" "the archivists my siblings "Oh.. lets play a game" they said "lets play hide AND SEEK" "you go down there and ask if the titans wanna play",so i played and it was great! the baby titans were the cutest just like king.. and they were all so welcoming! but the archivists were scared of their power, so one by one they disappeared.. until there was 1 titan left and he thought I was the bad guy so he hid his egg from me a-and trapped me but i showed them.. i showed all of them! even when those trapper jerks started acting weird I FOUND KING, I FOUND THE LAST TITAN AND HES MY FRIEND NOW! i dont care if its just pretend.. ill pretend for AS LONG AS I WANT"
All the songs perfectly show his curious yet dangerous nature. He’s friendly, but doesn’t understand how mortals work. He turns people into puppets to use as his toys and doesn’t understand why what he’s doing is bad. And when he was trapped with Belos, he saw acting evil as a good thing, a way to make a friend. But of course Belos was just pretending. He was not his friend. 17:21 also, this part sounds like the other few but then it randomly decides to become a banger

Ok, you know what, I don’t think people realize how beautifully orchestrated this show is, and don’t get me wrong, it’s VERY EASY to notice the music, but when you listen to it without any of the dialog or sound effects, you get an excellent score
chapter over I such a relaxing one for me as it sounded like something very similar i heard in season 1 and brought back many happy memories of the show and how much it helped me when i was going through a rough time in my life p.s when i watched the finally i cried soo hard my mum who shares a room with me was very concerned
I find it really interesting that before being released, The Collector is almost entirely represented by woodwinds, and then after being released, his themes primarily have the bass synth and the clicky sounding percussion, along with multiple other instruments. It’s like their theme before hand was being severely suppressed. Maybe to represent the Collector’s trapped state?

I also see the Collector as being loosely inspired by Yugo from Wakfu with King also being loosely inspired by Adamai and his dad, the Titan, being super duper loosely inspired by Grougaloragran (I'd say he has way more insporations from elsewhere but a vaguely similar role. I admit this is where it breaks down the most and then probably nothing else is similar beyond those three lol.) Second edit: er if anyone is confused I agree with the Bill Cypher comments most people have here but I was thinking of this so I typed it lol.

I just slightly altered the colours, to be particular - Collector's skin colour. But to do him entirely would cost me lots of time, and... i didn't want to loose too much time on one pic. So there is that. But also, great insight on Collector's inspiration! Definately brings a lot of ideas on the table. It's still surprising to me, how much could be said about the character and his background based on this much appearances.

It felt like any cruelty he was displaying was either do to a lack of understanding, or just mimicking Belos to get him to like him. When he is released his character completely shifts, and we see who he really is. He's no longer trying to mimic anyone and is just being his playful naive self. (Albeit with maliciousness toward Belos, and did attempt to "break" him. Even without the concept of death.)
Can't agree more! Though, i always liked his "more intimidating" demeanor in shadow form, even if he was only pretending for Belos. His first appearance in "Hollow Mind" really made an impression for me. But at the same time, i think that his childish behavior is what makes him unique, and... not as much of a threat as everyone thought he could have been.

I might be slightly crazy, but belos-zilla actually sounds like it has some of the godzilla motif in it.
