    Great video but I wouldn’t take the Priority Pass benefit and €200 sixt credits at face value. Priority Pass is a moot point if you are redeeming your Amex points for e.g. business class because lounge access is included in these tickets. Also virtually nobody traveling in economy will pay for Priority Pass entries, not when the Priority Pass lounges are usually packed like sardines, at least in major European and American airports.
    The sixt credits is also a bit of a booby trap because it’s way more expensive than common ride hailing services such as Uber/Bolt/Freenow/etc. and so you’re basically forcing yourself to spend more just to be able to utilize the credits.

    Hello there Srijith, really nice video. A quick question I am an EU citizen living in Germany. I already have Barclays with a high limit. My question is, do you think directly applying to Platinum is logical, or should I follow the path of Gold and then Platinum? My concern is If you have more than two credit cards, it affects your Schufa in a bad way as the system is quite differs from the US I am confused about how to act.

    Hi! Would you help me here with couple of points?
    Is Amex in Germany available in English?
    I am considering Amex Platinum and Revolut Ultra.
    What would you say about those 2?

      Hey, To answer your questions, I couldn't find any option to change language on the app or the website from German to English. And compared to Revolut, Amex platinum has many more perks to consider, from free credits to the flexibility of transferring points to many airlines. Also if you travel frequently, Amex Platinum's included priority pass is actually better, as you get 1 free guest per visit. Even more if you make use of the free supplementary card as that includes the same access for that card holder, including the +1 guest. You also get access to lounges not included in priority pass. Anyhow I will do a detailed review on Revolut soon. So stay tuned :)

    Hey Srijith, is the free lounge access removed from the Platinum card benefits? I can't seem to find it now. It just says Priority Pass but i guess that will come at some cost?

    • @SrijithKariyattil

      Hi Rashem, Aside from dedicated American Express lounges (which can be accessed with the Platinum Card), lounge access is available through Priority Pass, which is included with the Platinum Card at no extra cost.

      Hey, I think Amex Platinum has more perks to offer than Revolut Ultra. From free credits to insurance to a vast choice of point transfer partners, Amex is more suited for my use case. But I will look into the Revolut card and will make a video about it soon. Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)

    I'm a Blue Card holder in Germany. Can I still apply or only PR is required?

    • @SrijithKariyattil
      @SrijithKariyattil  3 месяца назад

      Thanks for your question! It’s not that straightforward, as the decision to issue a platinum card depends on various factors like your SCHUFA score, your personal situation, and more. It’s best to go ahead and apply, as Amex will assess your individual circumstances and make a decision accordingly. Good luck!

    Boring like the UK too - a Mastercard world elite is few and far between usually being locked behind heavy criteria banks accounts - Amex has cornered the market in the UK - plus most Brits buy everything with their debit cards - they seem to have contempt for the credit card concept

    • @SrijithKariyattil
      @SrijithKariyattil  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for sharing your insights! It's interesting to see how different countries approach credit card usage. The dominance of Amex in the UK and the preference for debit cards over credit cards is definitely notable.
      Do you think there's a shift happening, or will debit cards continue to dominate? I'd love to hear more about your perspective on this :)

    Even Indian credit card has better programs than almost all German credit cards. Calling them boring is an understatement. In India, even premium cards that are chargeable, with cool benefits can become totally free with waivers offered to customers with good credit score and couple of years long history. No such benefit in any German credit card including Amex.

    • @SrijithKariyattil
      @SrijithKariyattil  9 месяцев назад +1

      Totally agree. Last day, I was researching some credit cards in India with reward points and found the offers far better than what's available here in Germany. One reason could be that credit card rewards are normally funded by the payment processing fees merchants pay to the credit card companies. And compared to the US and other countries, the European Union passed a law to cap these fees at a very low level, so there is no money to pay for the rewards. But yeah, we need to make the most of what we have. :)

    • @EmileVictor
      @EmileVictor 9 месяцев назад +1

      EU has laws which limit how much Amex can gouge vendors. So their main income stream is neutered. Realistically, this is good because it means that poor people aren't taxed to fund points for richer individuals.

    • @SrijithKariyattil
      @SrijithKariyattil  9 месяцев назад

      Hey Emile, I don't totally agree with the fact about "poor funding the rich".There is no evidence that merchants raise their prices to accept Amex if that's what you meant. There are clear benefits to merchants from accepting Amex, such as expanding their customer base and generating more revenue. Therefore, they don't necessarily have to raise prices to accommodate the higher fee. But I could be wrong. :)
