  • In this video I go over the 4 wood planters i have created on this channel. These woodworking projects sell great in the spring, summer, and fall time. They are all made with cheap fence pickets and produce a high profit when selling these project. The best part is the demand for these is always through the roof! People love them.

    Just made one for the wife and it turned out awesome. I passed all pickets through the planer multiple times to make it smooth, which made a HUGE difference if you’re going to stain like I did. Tks!

    I put 4 together over the weekend. Posted them on marketplace. I put my twist on them and painted the legs and top trim black.

    Hey brother great videos! I'm curious though about the moisture content of the pickets. In my area you can not find dry pickets at all. They are usually sitting outside in the garden center SOAKING wet. Are you buying them dry or letting them dry indoors first? Being as wet as they come, I think they would warp pretty bad.

    One of my side hustles is selling plants. I propagate them, grow them to a high value size and pot them. Then I have a couple big plant sales every spring. It would be a perfect opportunity to sell some planters to increase my profits. One thing I would do that you don't is make them from cedar pickets instead of pressure treated. Cedar fence pickets cost about $4.50 each if I buy a pallet of 560. Anything made of cedar sells for 25% more than the same item made of PT.

    • @BradyHommel
      @BradyHommel  2 месяца назад +1

      Someone from my hometown actually opened up a store front doing what your doing! Yes Cedar is a great way to make a more quality planter definitely! The last one I made I was trying to find cedar pickets and after 2 lowes trips and a home depot trip I could only find PT. I was surprised. Also would not have to stain with cedar as it is beautiful as is.

    • @dropndeal
      @dropndeal 2 месяца назад

      The cedar pickets from Lowe’s are typically warped, checked, and cupped. The Lowe’s here in coastal Alabama store them out in the garden area, whereas HD stores them inside with other lumber.
      I haven’t found where the cedar outsells PT planters, but it’s still a good strategy to offer them side by side.

    • @zone4garlicfarm
      @zone4garlicfarm 2 месяца назад

      @@dropndeal Around here cedar is the most popular wood for most outdoor furniture from adirondack chairs to picnic tables. Also for trellises, window box planters and some styles of fences. I haven't looked closely at free standing planters to know if it's true for them. What I do know is people who prefer cedar will pay a premium for it.

    • @dropndeal
      @dropndeal 2 месяца назад

      @@zone4garlicfarm Aside from a couple of heavy PT timber benches, I haven’t ventured into outdoor furniture, but agree cedar is favorable and offers timeless beauty.
      I also make window boxes and a variety of planters. Some are sold through consignment with local markets with a lot of pass-through traffic. I’ve experienced about 50/50 sales on PT vs Cedar and the occasional cypress (plenty of that in the Mobile delta region). In those cases, I’ll only offer one or the other so as not to compete with myself, plus inventory is simpler.
