- Hozier is one of the most promising and talented singer songwriters to emerge from Ireland in recent years. Utilising influences of soul, blues and jazz, the resulting repertoire is original, unique and memorable.
Only Hozier can take ancient folklore and weave them into these beautiful songs at the same time making them sound romantic and lovely as if intended for a lover. Many of his songs have references to mythical beings ('It will come back') but they are quite subtle. This one surprisingly is quite straightforward and daring ('started to smile so i showed my teeth') - (A creature that would terrify any child that i used to be) - (if there is no heaven and there is no soul).
I love the fact that these are open to interpretations and its amazing how one can write this way at such young age. Reminds me of the similar ingenuity of Emily Dickinson's poems.
I have never posted comments on RUclips before or anywhere else. This is the first time I am this awestruck by another person and his art. I am 22 and too old to be crazy and obsess over someone but he is something else. I am sure I will remember this guy and his music until the end of my time.
