A History Of Australia's Railways
Six different state railways, all running on different gauges made freight handling at borders a circus. It took World War II to force Australia to recognise its break of gauge problems.
This story deals with the way each of the six British colonies developed railways systems all of their own.

It's funny in hindsight how watching this series as a child ended up getting me into a career in Railway History and eventually brinigng it full circle by writing my dissertation on the very topic of the Australian Rail Gauge Crisis of WWII that this episode covers, diving deep into the Australian archives and political papers to deeply examine how state rivalry exacerbated a major transportation issue.
