I totally agree with you. Such a solid guitar for under 1000 euros is a dream. Off course you don’t get all the fancy appointments you get from Suhr or higher end Ibanez AZ guitars, but for that price I can definitely tolerate a few minor flaws... on the other hand, gotoh 510 bridge, alder body, duncans, luminlays, graphtech nut, roasted maple neck. There’s not much left to be desired.
Luca Weinem I always hated HSH because I was touching the single coil with the pick when playing hard, but I don't notice anything on this one - maybe my playing has changed! I do like the Straty sound the single coil gives you :)
I'm a Ibanez guy. I've owned 20+ Ibanez's through the years but, I bought the pink HSS DK24. I love it! There are a lot of cool features like the volume pot, input jack, etc...
Just bought an HSS in shell pink yesterday. Never thought I’d buy a pink guitar but it’s stunning and I absolutely love it. My daughter loves the pink too.
I own one, bought in November. Easily the best $1000 ever. Plays amazing, sounds great and easy to work on. Negative is the finishing craftsmanship has some issue but all in all extremely happy. Plays great, sounds great, and looks great....very difficult to beat for price
The tone pot is a no load pot. The detent at the up position essentially bypasses the tone pot, so you should notice a significant treble increase when it’s turned all the way up.
Now this is an amazing guitar I love charvel guitars love them for real great tone and that green is freaking awesome I've never seen a green look that good that neck does the trick on making its look even better very very nice
Thank you for this video! I got to try one of these guitars earlier this year, and I was blown away by how comfortable and great sounding it was. I've been planning to order one since then, but they're out of stock like everywhere. I didn't know about this backbox thing until you showed it here in the video. It seems like it could solve all the problems that come with changing tunings while having a floating bridge. I'd love to see a video of how it works for you :)
Nice review. I got this a while back but kind of forgot to give it proper love since then. Rediscovering it‘s advantages right now. Rippin mine in D-Standard 🙌
Actually the tone knob doesn't lock it in place, when it's on 10 and "locked" it takes the tone knob out of the circuit. I forget what this is called but it's definitely not locking it in place. Plus that gap in the neck joint is a little concerning cause it doesn't have a tight neck cavity.
It's soo nice. I like that Charvel has finally come down from the neon eighties, and learnt some subtlety 😁 ...Cos, as awesome as they sound - and play - I could never see myself rocking a hot pink strat. Just, *NO!* 😂
If you put tuning machines with height compensated/staggered posts, that would eliminate the need for string trees. Planet Waves makes some great ones. Put them on a few of my Stats.
Did you leave the string trees off? That would be the best move if you're not having a problem popping the strings out of the nut doing bends in the lower fret register. Less friction points the better. How did the Goldo Backbox work out? I have one installed, works pretty well. I actually used Google to translate the instructions from German haha. I'm always concerned that little felt pad will fall out lol. Of course. it never did. I also like the ESP style stabilizer. The genuine ESP one is expsensive, around $30 USD. I found one half the price that works just as well.
JoeyRapps1 Actually put the original ones back on because of the look and also strings popping out at hard playing. The backbox is stupid in my eyes, the charvel's cavity is not flat and I couldn't install it properly, so I just blocked the trem entirely with wood pieces.
If you leave the string trees off you will notice tuning degradation as your strings age (even after a day or two) particularly if you're not fully blocking the trem. The Neck gap won't affect the sound or playability in the "real" world. If you're concerned about it you can always watch a few stewmac vids and reset your neck (it's wood it flexes there is no such thing as zero tolerance)
Why not experiment and build a guitar with a Humbucker P90 configuration. So you get chunky chugs and leads on the bridge and crisp cleans on the neck with grit on crunch and drive.
Hey, can you tell me if you can achieve a low action with your Charvel? I'm on my second one(sent the first back) and both cannot be set as low as I would like. Not even close. The fretwork on these in my opinion are pretty crappy for a $1000 guitar and I also had tuning issues until I installed some Graphtech string trees. I do love the feel of the neck and it sounds great but it doesn't play as well as my $300 Jackson Dinky.
Stratisfied Hi, yeah I've set mine pretty low, there's a bit more buzz on the low string than usual, but it hasn't affected tone or playability. The string trees are annoying, I changed the tuners for staggered ones so the strings are not being pulled at a super hard angle.
Soulhenge Thanks bud. Charvels used to be known for being able to set a low action so I’m sure it’s just a mediocre fret job. It’s a shame a $1000 guitar needs work from a luthier but that’s what I get for buying a Fender product. Take care my friend
Did you have to file the nut so the thicker strings would fit? thinking about getting one myself and i would also like to tune it lower with thicker strings
It's slowly start to show already because it's my main guitar and I've been playing it a lot, however I don't really care that much. I still love this guitar, if it gets too bad I might have it resprayed in some other colour!
Soulhenge Thanks for the response, I ordered the guitar as well. I am willing to sacrifice the colour issue cause the guitar checks every other box. Thanks for the video
Your tuning issue is the nut slots. Your strings ate huge and they don't cut the slots for strings that big. Either take it in and get it done professionally or risk doing it your self
Great honest review! I have the same guitar in grey, HSS configuration. It has same gap, same place as your guitar does. So disappointing, should not happen on 1000 euro guitar. What are you going to to with the gap? Will you try to fill it? Thanks for the tip on HB spring trees, i will get these too. Otherwise its a killer axe.
Hello, great vid, thumb up. I m interested in this guitar. But I m affraid a Dinky shape is too small for me. I m 1,88m and i find strat very confortable. Do you feel a big difference between a regular strat shape and this Charvel ? Thank you.
This is really close to a normal Strat I would say. I am 2cm smaller than you and I can't see any problem with this, it such a comfortable guitar in any aspect!
I'm about to get one of these guitars. I'm between the DK24 HSS in pink finish or the HH in the similar colour. What do you recommend me? Your video helps me a lot to decide on this guitar 'cause I use low tunings too
Hey bro, great review! I am kind of confused between the DK24 and an Ibanez RG of a similar price (RG 550). I see that you have played a ton of guitars, so do you have any recommendations between the two? Thanks!
Funnily enough, I owned this for a good year before switching to an RG550 in 2020 and stayed with that ever since. The Charvel has more character and an excellent neck and good upper fret access. I switched to the RG because of the locking tremolo system that brings greater tuning stability and the desired flutters. However I had to upgrade the pickups, but now it's definitely the better guitar (for me) although I do sometimes miss the Charvel.
Been dying to try one of these out. Unfortunately I moved to a small city and they don't stock Charvel's in any of the music stores here, ugh. These look sick, I would kill for the shell pink HSS model.
I think you just sold me on this exact model and color. It was between this and an AZ2402. For the $1,000 difference I think this will do me just fine. Plus I literally have like 10 other Japanese made Ibanez "metal" guitars.
I have the same model. I must have got lucky. Only issue I have is that over time I've started to hate the finish, but I sent it away to a good painter and now it's teal holographic metal flake. Other than that, everything else is absolutely awesome for the money and I am very happy with the guitar. I can't put it down.
Hi! Now you've had the guitar for more than a year. Are you still enthusistic about it? I'm looking for a superstrat guitar and the Charvell is one of the potential candidates. Tnx for the answer and keep on releasing your great contents. Great channel!
I sold it to get an Ibanez RG550, however I do sometimes miss the sound and feel of this guitar, so there's a little regret I must admit. I was just annoyed by the fact that this has the 2-point non-locking trem, which wouldn't stay in tune if you went lower in tuning, nor would it feel ideal when blocked with wood. I'd prefer either a fixed bridge or a proper Floyd Rose style bridge. Overall I really enjoyed playing this guitar though.
Great review, great sounds, great knowledge, great playing! I subscribe for your future videos, keep it up... P.s. it is not a vintage trem, it's considered a modern trem cos of 2 pivots :)
I have the same Charvel but in burnt orange. I gotta say, I'll never go back to the typical Ibanez/Schecter shredder guitar. It's just so much more inspiring to play on a Charvel than I'm used to! You might agree after spending some time with it. ❤
Hello, I was wondering how you can use that guitar with drop tunings? I have the same guitar but in the HSS configuration with the same tremolo and I cannot do any alternate tunings. Every time I would try to drop tune it, it would simply go completely out of tune.
If you drop tune or generally change the tuning you need to do a new setup for the guitar. You need balance the string tension with the tension of the springs in the back.
Ivan Starikov I'm really bad at judging neck profiles because I get along with absolutlely anything, maybe I could describe it as slim C. It's not Ibanez Prestige - thin though.
im pretty sure you meant 7 string set 11 to 64 because you use the same set i use im pretty sure. D' Addario NYXL's, the purple set. i also use the biggest 6 strings and tune down super low on my 6 string. you cant go wrong with NYXLs, they last forever.
@@MilianMalivukMusic oh wow, really? they're pretty much the same price at sweetwater here in the states, but since I started having to buy bass strings too, I only buy the NYXls for my main 7 string. I get Ernie ball 7 and 8 string packs that are on clearance for my les paul and use whatever I need out the set for diffrent tunings. Its highly modified for much bigger gauge strings anyway to get that perfect amount of tension in drop A or drop F#. especially when you only got 24.75in scale length on Les Pauls its critical.
@@MilianMalivukMusic i agree. unless they can keep a bright tone for more than 3 months, they're not worth it. Perhaps we could spread the word and rally up d addario players to call the company and ask for a little relief on the price or maybe a some free packs even, because we love them so much, but can no longer keep our axes strung fresh with their product like some of us have for years. lol
As much as I love my MIM San Dimas, I had to put quite a bit of money into it to get it where I like it. Gotoh floyd rose upgrade, titanium floyd locking nut screws, better pickups (personal taste), upgraded brass floyd block, etc. It's a killer instrument and SUCH a solid and reliable gigging instrument but I could have bought a nice used Prestige Ibanez and still had money left over.
It has sustain for days, it does have some fretbuzz which kinda appeared today, but I guess the neck is still adapting to the heavy string gauge, and I haven't fully set it up yet since I only got it just a few days ago :)
Which attributes do you consider as cons in this particular instrument? I am in the market for a new instrument and i would love to know more. Thanks in advance.

i played this guitar in store and would have bought it immediately, if I had the money. great super guitar, still thinking every week about it.
its always a good day when you upload
Emeric Meilhon agreed👌🏻
On the subject of string trees, you could always buy staggered locking tuners eliminating the need for string trees all together.
Great point! Yet Charvel/Fender made the decision to not equip them and drill holes in the headstock for string deet-de-dees.
String trees are a lot cheaper than new tuners (if you find good ones that don't cause tuning issues)
I'm not a fan of HSH configuration. I prefer two pick ups. HH or HS. But other than this guitar is gorgeous
