I'll agree it's effective when done right, like in Police Academy, but in a stand-up routine, just repeating the same thing over and over, it just doesn't work. If he had downplayed it a bit and if he would've had more actual material, and had bursted out with better timing, it could've been great.

After that, I think people just saw it as someone being fake and bad comedians who had to create absurd personas to get laughs. His Share the Warmth special was one of my favorite stand up specials of all time. All of the jokes that miss here hit in that special. He was much better at what he did at that time. Dee Snider was in the audience too when twisted sister were at their peak
As great and talented as he would turnout to be, you can see why many in the beginning, including me, thought he was just a gimmick, then he'd hit a joke, like the job joke, or the father line, quotable, funny shit and I slowly started to turn. Then I remember seeing his short film "Making of bikini school 3" and thinking this guys genius.
I saw Bobcat perform live in early June 1986 at the former Circle Star Theater in Redwood City, CA. His routine was so funny. When he had a hair in his mouth, he said "Look, mental floss!" whilst pulling one of his hairs on his head.

His Share the Warmth special was one of my favorite stand up specials of all time. All of the jokes that miss here hit in that special. He was much better at what he did at that time. Dee Snider was in the audience too when twisted sister were at their peak

Absolute genius.
As great and talented as he would turnout to be, you can see why many in the beginning, including me, thought he was just a gimmick, then he'd hit a joke, like the job joke, or the father line, quotable, funny shit and I slowly started to turn. Then I remember seeing his short film "Making of bikini school 3" and thinking this guys genius.
Nah, I was sold on the delivery alone. The part where he tries to bite out 'I lost my job' was 100% pure punk rock.
If I paid to see this I'd screamed to get my money back!!!!! I guess if I had to give him a positive it would be first commitment to the character.

I saw Bobcat perform live in early June 1986 at the former Circle Star Theater in Redwood City, CA. His routine was so funny. When he had a hair in his mouth, he said "Look, mental floss!" whilst pulling one of his hairs on his head.
