Since they didn’t have time to cover it, if anyone is curious about the context of this speedrun: Oldschool RuneScape is an MMORPG, which doesn’t really make for a speedrun, but this is a specific raid within the game. The runner is using a pre-made character (these take hundreds/thousands of hours to level) and optimized gear (except for the donation incentive, mole slippers). The raid is designed for multiple players to complete it, but RuneScape players would never pass up an opportunity to make something harder in order to play alone. Soloing the raid is hard, but learnable by pretty much any player who dedicates time to it. He’s doing a special “Challenge Mode” version of the raid that is harder than standard raids and includes every single room in a set order (standard CoX raids are usually randomly generated using a few of the possible rooms) Since players have to complete these raids thousands of times to achieve end game goals, they optimize for speed for more kills/hr. Some players go beyond just trying to efficiently clear raids and speedrun for a PB or WR, which means optimizing for speed (not necessarily efficiency or repeatability) and resetting attempts, like other speedruns. Just wanted to explain a bit for people who aren’t as familiar with the game and don’t know how an MMORPG could be speedrun! The current WR appears to be 24:47 by Rastaman, to put this run into context. It was an extremely good run, but to challenge the WR it would have needed better luck and riskier play (which really means lots and lots of attempts). For a marathon run, it was excellent 🎉

Get JCB to do a Ironman max cape speedrun next year! Just lock him in a closet a bout 1600 hours in advance and bring him out for the last hours, he probably won't mind!

Old School Runescape has never been better it's by far the best MMO. Every week there's game updates and every month or so we have big game updates. While Guthix Sleeps comes out next week, Solo Slayer boss Araxxor is coming soon, Part 2 of Varlamore is coming with a group boss, and a massive herblore minigame coming out as well. I can't wait until HD, Sailing, and the rest of the roadmap revealed comes to the game. I loved playing back in 2006-2011 days but I think runescape is in its golden era right now. Never too late to join. :D
I know OSRS can get complicated going into ticks and such, but I would have liked a bit more general explanation for things, even if I already know them. Couch talked over each other quite a bit early, little annoying. But overall amazing run for a marathon setting, love seeing RS at GDQ and hope it continues
Good stuff cold, I don’t watch pvm much because I like pking, but this was a solid speed run for chambers. I’m not fimiliar with this channel but osrs speed runners definitely need to be in this type of environment. The is some extreme mechanics and game knowledge.
Omg I'm so happy to see OSRS here at GDQ! I'm very passionate about the game myself, maxed with infernal and all that, but I do wanna shill for A Cold One and say if you're new/interested in osrs content he really does great content, I'd highly recommend the Grandmaster/Zuk helm speedrun series! To finish GM in the first place is an amazing feat that not a ton of people ever accomplish, let alone in a speedrun setting (which btw still adds up to weeks of in game time)
Olm 8:1 and 12:0 is pretty hard to learn without tile markers, respect to cold for willing to showcase a more natural game experience, not shitting on plugins but it shows he cares for how the game is perceived
Very osrs, at the same time there is 1) very high-end show of skill, 2) a UIM afking crabs whilst watching someone else play osrs and 3) the wholesome community pulling some shenanigans. Amazing!
