I think plains/fields/prairie would be better option. Easier to build in and expand as necessary without having to do extensive terraforming, and far easier to navigate around. Also, there would probably be less predators to eat your face. If you like mods, you may want to consider Extra Overlays - it adds a health bar for entities, very handy. Another one is Carry On mod, that way you can actually move your containers without having to empty them out; and added bonus is that you can carry a chest on your back, which will give you extra space, though to access it you will have to set it down. I use it myself and I find it mighty useful. You can carry on your back a reed basket, a storage vessel, and wooden chest, though the vessel and chest will slow you down a bit and might increase your hunger. I haven't really paid that much attention.
also also! when getting cuttings from fruit trees, don't chop the stem, only what is labelled as a 'branch'. That way it can regrow if the ones you plant die.
another thing! i would suggest first making a cooking pot and some bowls before doing anything else, since cooking veggies (including mushrooms), meat, and/or grains together gives you so much more saturation than eating each of them individually
okay last thing i promise lol, but every item that can be traded has a range of potential values it can be sold/bought for. you might want to look up the best deals for certain items, although it's up to you! if you don't then that's perfectly fine.
I'm loving your series so far! I'm super excited to get back into the game soon, and you're one of the few people that've been getting me hyped up! You've presented the more tedious tasks in the game in such a fun light. ^_^
I like buildiing into a hilltop where I can terraform and terrace some interesting stuff. Its also harder for drifters to get to you if you limit your pathways down and gate them off.
This is such a great series keep it going please. This game is amazing just subscribed after watching your first two episodes. Also build in the plains
I straight up thought this was a mc modpack at first, i just finshed watching all the episodes up to this point, can't wait for the next one, oh, and I think the lake base (Forest) would look cooler, though the plains is probably safer and it does look pretty in this game, so... Unhelpful, but i like both ideas, lol.
Loving your videos, just wanted to let you know if you have stuff in your offhand, your hunger rate increases. You can cut your old reed baskets back into reeds in your crafting grid with a knife. Would also recommend to physically mark your copper deposits with a hole or pillar because you might struggle to pinpoint it from the map.
Great suggestions, thank you! I’m still pretty new to this game, and I didn’t know I could salvage my reed baskets. You probably won’t see me apply this advice till episode 5 because episode 4 is already filmed though 😆
While the fields are easier to build in I think a forest house would be unique and interesting plus, like you said, its only annoying at first. I can't wait for the next episode!
I suggest you settle outside of the forest. It really isn't worth it - just go to the forest if you want wood. As for the lore, you're right about the damage to the universe, but not about why it happened. Read the lore books, tapestries, and other things you find, and keep an eye out for any mentions of a certain "Jonas Falx" fellow.
I know nothing about the game so take this with a grain of salt. I think you should build in the plains at 15:12 because its a wide open space and there's a mountain right there so you can see the area
Never *ever* settle in forest, for reasons that have started to become abundantly clear to you. You always want open country -- and you preferably want to settle on top of a flat-topped mesa or steep hill near a relatively shallow pond. If you put your base up on top of a hill or mesa (not too high) it's easy to keep the drifters away from your walls; they're stopped by a two-block height. Also, wolves can't jump two spaces, and bears can't climb three -- so, if you terraform the hill or mesa, and keep plenty of torches/lanterns going, you can keep the bad things away from you. Moreover, if you have a shallow pond, nearby, you just turn that into your farm.
Bears and wolves DO spawn in the forest. If you settle in the forest, they will keep respawning and believe me, that gets old fast as youll have to fight wolves and bears every few days, and they CAN spawn inside your houses...
I forgot to mention the pleistocene mod gives a lot more meat, fa, and bones then the base game. Their reasoning was it's more realistic pound for pound since most of an animal went to waste most of the time during the stone age anyway and VS isn't very realistic in it's giving of animal products. This can make the game easier assuming the predators aren't horribly deadly. I only ever got the Rhinos mod and it definitely did when they didn't one shot me.
@@azungu1190 I meant to say they come in individually downloadable animal packs. It's supposed to be a full fuana replacer eventually. Everything from Dogs to cats, to deer, rhinos, and I think Manatees of all things for now. All of which have different species of the same creature. So dogs would have wolves, foxes, and domesticable dogs. I only got the Rhino one for a farm idea. My Experience with it is: They're loud and you can hear them from a long way off. Even better Rhinos hate drifters and if a drifter walk into them they take a chunk of damage. You can also run from them. Finally occasionally a specail corpse will spawn if you kill enough that stop future spawns so you can clear an area. You can destroy it to renable them. Neutral: they give unique hides for decorating and can be taxidermied. Bad thing is if you get to close they will take most of not all your health without armor. They also get stuck in weird AI loops and run around in circles. Finally have a ton of health obviously.
I didnt mean I didnt believe you the wolves prove that it is true failure is always in full view while success waits till we are alone and almost defeated😁
if you're in or even near a forest you *will* be attacked by wolves and/or bears, that's where they spawn and live lol. imo it's better to live in the plains or mountains for less predators, better visibility, and ease of building.
A but to late to say maybe but cattails don’t respawn. The best to do is gather roots and plant them in your area to have them on hand. Since you need a lot even late game

Between reeds basket and leather backpacks there's a middle inventory level, linen sacks, you have what you need to make some. Look it up
also also! when getting cuttings from fruit trees, don't chop the stem, only what is labelled as a 'branch'. That way it can regrow if the ones you plant die.
Oops 😐
If you build in the Forrest then know that goats are safe from bears, sheep are not. Keep your animals safe.
another thing! i would suggest first making a cooking pot and some bowls before doing anything else, since cooking veggies (including mushrooms), meat, and/or grains together gives you so much more saturation than eating each of them individually
you can't put bushmeat in meals though, unless you have a mod for it.

Love these videos. Keep it up!

Can't wait for part 4
Amazing as always! I think the plains would be the better option.
I think you’re right. Time to move to the plains!
i love these videos, can't wait for part 4 :)
Part 4 is coming soon!
Came home from work and Yass! There he is! It is so entertaining to watch your videos!
Welcome back from work!
Loving the series. Hope there will be more!

Thanks, and welcome!

The lore is very interesting 🤔

My vote is for the prairie, as it is much more open and easy to traverse.
Thanks for the feedback! Based on what everyone is saying, I think I need to move to the prairie 😆
I would have to throw my hat into the ring for building outside the forest during early game.

If I’m constantly running for my dear life getting chased by rhinos and big cats, the bigger loot should be perfectly balanced 😆

Those are Bighorn Sheep. The goats are different. 👍👍
Yeah, I hadn’t seen goats yet at that point and thought these were goats, haha
enjoying it yet why is it everyone always has great luck off camera
To be fair I have pretty good luck on camera too 😆
I didnt mean I didnt believe you the wolves prove that it is true failure is always in full view while success waits till we are alone and almost defeated😁

Good point
You will need a hammer to extract the copper nuggets from the chunks you will be mining.
Definitely live in the plains-easier to see predators. 😳
Can you make a bow so that fighting mobs would be easier
Oh yeah I should do that
Forest is more dangerous, seriously dangerous
Are you keeping your words that the forest is as safe as outside forest ? 😅
Maybe? 😂
@@azungu1190 i vote to build your base outside the forest. Mostly for your sake (and I see enough branches and bushes in my world, never fun)
A but to late to say maybe but cattails don’t respawn. The best to do is gather roots and plant them in your area to have them on hand. Since you need a lot even late game
Dont live in the forest. Its a pain
Ewe is pronounced 'you' and they are sheep, not goats.
