I heard there is a bipartisan bill that says if they government shuts down that no one in Congress will get paid. It'll never pass though...
Unfortunately, it is written into the Constitution (Article I, Section 6) that Congress members are to be paid/compensated so I don't know if there is anything to be done to prevent them being paid short of rewriting that part of the Constitution. When our country's founding fathers wrote that into the Constitution I doubt that they ever fathomed the idea of those in power shutting down the government, let alone possibly doing it as a form of political retribution.

Word-Salad-Sara turned the conversation from the hot topic to balancing the budget. She included Obama in her rant but failed to mention the economy and the labor market had long periods of stable growth during Obama’s presidency.
She also failed to mention the Obama inherited an economy in the great recession from Bush. Also the last few years Obama had far smaller deficits and had Trump not blown a hole in the budget by giving massive tax cuts and his terrible response to COVID, we might have approached a balanced budget...

What’s so interesting is the constitution only states “the house must choose its speaker”. It doesn’t say anything about the Speaker needing to be an elected representative in the House. I’m very curious to see who will be put in.

I think the show realized that if they let Alyssa speak and others opine, not argue, the conversations are SO good. All of them have such great viewpoints and just need to learn to disagree at times. I’m a democrat but honestly was very tired of the unnecessary over talking. I hope this sort of stability stays on. As for the ousting … this whole disaster of a government is feeling like the beginning of mayhem. 44 days.
The “give Alyssa more talking time” shtick is getting old. She’s been doing a lot of monologuing and cutting people off lately.
Unfortunately they only let her speak this time because they agree with her on this topic. I’m with you, these conversations are so much more productive when there are robust, representative perspectives from more sides than just one. I think it’s silly to restrict conversations about these issues to an echo chamber of voices that only agree with a single opinion. If all they’re going to do is largely agree, then what’s the point of dialoguing at all?
