That's great - it looks like her husband is crying. That's why contestants chose Richard 99% of the time. He understood that the people were playing for life-changing amounts of money and he tried his best to help them win.
People chose Richard first most of the time, so of course he had better answers. Then after coming up with more #1 answers, they would naturally choose him form the big money round. People also chose Richard because he was more consistently funny than anyone else. And the women wanted kisses. Can you imagine if Brett Somers insisted on frenching every guy on the show?
As we know, William Shatner was at this time in a new TV show, "Barbary Coast", which was short-lived. Most Trekkies remember him as Captain James T. Kirk. Lee Meriwether is best known as Betty in "Barnaby Jones", but some may remember her as Tracy in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. By the way, it was funny to see them tease Joyce Bulifant for her spelling. Finally, the contestant got her wish to give a kiss to Richard Dawson after winning big.
I always admired Lee Meriweather. This show was so original and funny. I've never seen a host fixing something on the set before. It can only happen on Match Game with Gene Rayburn.
I think the guests are just naive in a sexual innuendo question format. After all, no one in the 70's is a super pervert like everyone is these days. People didn't send pictures of their dick to the whole world back then.
Daniel Hislop Not always. Sometimes it was the audience who were morons. I've seen occasions where they booed answers that turned out to be the $500 response and their asses felt stupid.
I can see where a person might take that view, if this were an ordinary game show. But it wasn't; the real point of the show was the the interaction of the panelists, and whatever ensued... The actual game play was totally secondary. The primary reason of the show was the hijinks of the participants. It really wouldn't have been much fun if they'd just played the game straight. They were encouraged to misbehave, and it was expected that they would. That's why it aired for so many years!
If William Shatner was on Match Game, was there an episode of Match Game with Leonard Nimoy, the guy that played Mr. Spock on Star Trek as a celebrity? If there was, that would be awesome, but if not, its good to have William Shatner, the guy that played Captain Kerk!
+ns4270railfan Lee Meriwether, sitting in front of William Shatner, co-starred in an episode of Star Trek with him. The episode title is "That Which Survives", from Star Trek's 3rd and final season.
@@31Mike That was one of my most favorite episode. Lee is one of the true Hollywood beauties--real women, like Maureen O'Hara & Sophia Loren, not today's skinny bimbos with no hips, tits, or wits.
An updated Match Game, with the right mix of today's 'celebrities,' would work, I think. But it would be unwatchable by those of us who value quality and eschew what passes for humour today.
Is it weird that I'd rather have a hug from Brett then a kiss from Dawson? I absolutely love her. As I do all the panel but Brett was always my favorite.
It absolutely would! Based on Mastermold's assessment, anyway. Because today we have nothing BUT "ridiculously self-indulgent" celebrities! In fact, I believe that's a prerequisite for fame in these times.
I really have to wonder how some of these contestants even made it onto the show with the stupid answers that they give sometimes!!! Buns never even occurred to her!
Has anyone ever noticed how sexy Joyce Bulifant was? Especially her voice, and the rest of her too! They missed out having Mary Tyler Moore on the show. RIP's go out to most of the celebrities & Gene Rayburn (Heart Attack).
I remember watching this show in my mom’s bedroom on her color tv. I ❤ed it!
And I ❤ed the theme music 🎶🎼
Jimmy Durante said, "Come to my room . . . and bring some rye bread" to Mary Wicks in "The Man Who Came to Dinner." Excellent, funny film.
Lee Meriwether, still alive and kicking at age 87.
Can’t believe I just discovered this episode and it’s posted more than a decade ago 😮
No chairs were thrown in the making of this video.
1:22 Gene: It'll go small, it'll go big.
-- That's the Sony ECM-51 microphone for ya'. I happen to have 2 of that I won on eBay in 2011 and 2012.

Ugh
A Trekkie's dream, Shatner and Meriwether worked together in the STAR TREK episode That Which Survives, filmed in 1968, aired in 1969.
Dottie has that Doris Day look. ❤️this show ...a time capsule gem!
Charles saying about Brett... "can't we get her her own show?"
Ever notice when the female contestants said they’re single the camera cuts to Richard? Lol
That guy was the coolest!
Building is the answer!
Considering how much time has past, the three non-regular panelists are still with us...
They had so much fun thats what it's all about magnificent!!!!
Simply the best, most delightful game show in history. 💛🙏🏼
Great for her! Great player!!

Gene: "You're all a beautiful, gifted, gay bunch."
Brett: "Not all of us." :)
good thing they didn't have Paul Linde as a panelist, he would have given Gene his famous line "Watchit Fella! " LOL
+DUSTERDUDE238 Lol that would've been funny. He was on Hollywood Squares, though. Something similar to this but I see where you're coming from lolol
@@dusterdude238 Paul would have been perfect for this show. Did he ever?
@@dusterdude238 And he would of put rubber lips 👄 Dawson to shame. Dawson would keep his mouth shut 🤫.

Gene's final words of the episode say it all: "Join us next time for more laughs and excitement...!" That's what the show was ALL about!
William Shatner has a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame.
He should have one here too. If he doesn't, that's B.S.
I enjoy the pace of this PM version more than the daytime.
I always admired Lee Meriweather. This show was so original and funny. I've never seen a host fixing something on the set before. It can only happen on Match Game with Gene Rayburn.
When I was a Kid, William Shatner was on RESCUE 911.
I remember TJ Hooker.
I watched RESCUE 911 too.
I want to live in their world, todays world is too sensitive
20:56 Richard Dawson: "I Want A Kiss!"
William Dunphy sounded like Batman when he said that 😂
Lol...yeah, but it was just a tad bit creepy.
I’d have lost
Stick of dynamite
@2:57- "Well, I'm originally from New Jersey..."
The hell you say? 😂😆😂
Sometimes the answers contestants give make me wonder if they've watched the show before :)
I wish I had a copy of this show.I know that the box set exists, but I would love to have all of these episodes.
14:05 "I'll have a bloody marry" lol :)
Gene Rayburn looks as great as the day he started.
To see "Metal Gear Solid" alumni here,is both a trip AND a treat!!!!
The audience is pretty critical of peoples answers. The comment section before the internet.
That's because the contestants are usually morons.
I think the guests are just naive in a sexual innuendo question format. After all, no one in the 70's is a super pervert like everyone is these days. People didn't send pictures of their dick to the whole world back then.

Do you happen to have the first episode of Match Game PM from 1975? If so, can you please post it? Thank you!

Amazing era, where people would kiss other people with such abandon. Would never happen in today's society.
Kirk Unit.
Gene Rayburn to the rescue! Mic check one two.
Morris the Cat is the Original Angry Cat! 👻
Morris wasn't a grumpy cat, he was a very pleasant cat in commercials and on cat food boxes and bags
William Shatter should have given the answer" turbo" lift,.
Joyce was / is sooooo Adorable!🤓
I Like that KING KONG Question.
I wanna ask William shattner if a paladin can be or become Jewish. Lol
This is how she spells tie. ROFL TEA
When did Match Game PM go from two rounds to three?
Second season I believe. Sometime in '76.

Match Game PM's only episode without a Male Contestant.
what is it about The Match Game PM that the contestants seem so thick compared to the mormal match game.
I mean hot dog - bed?
Contestants could guess the match at the end based on how long it took the star to write. ie. Stick of Gum verses Stick of Dynamite
lordy,ths audience was a tough crowd :)
William Shatner of T.J. Hooker (1982-1986) (Also he drives a one awesome 1979 4 Door Black and White Dodge St. Regis) and Rescue 911 (1989-1996) Fame
Don't forget Star Trek
Karen looked pretty miffed about something. wonder what the "behind the scenes" was on that?
I thought that too... I don't think it was the answers, hers were pretty bad.
She was probably pissed at the lousy answers they were giving her.

A building stuck in his teeth was excellent...
Some Hippies in the crowd to say Fritz the cat....
of course her husband is in the audience clapping as richard slaps his lips onto hers. weird.
I'd kiss Shatner anytime.
Only the Movie Series
