    With the whole living world thing I hope they actually deliver instead of it just being corporate hype speak.

    As a big Paradox Studios fan, I understand very much that a game with many moving parts is often released in a state of "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle". I commend them for trying many different things with the game, but I fear it may be a few things too many. Hopefully the game is friendly to modders, who are often the ones left adding depth to mechanics form overly ambitious developers.
    Truly best of luck, Ara team. I hope the team looks into a staged Early Access phase where people can try some of these novel mecahnics in a bit more isolation, giving the team time to iterate.

    Not a fan of the prestige system - I don't quite get why should a player be removed from the game if they fail to attain enough prestige. I mean, Egypt experienced periods of decline followed by periods of ascendancy. Why not something like that here?

    • @TheGoreforce
      @TheGoreforce Год назад +1

  • @lanteanboy
    @lanteanboy Год назад +4

    That Prestige system is interesting but can be pretty unforgiving for some players since it means, that you can't just turtle up for the first two acts and then release all your potential to achieve max prestige in the final act

    • @christopherpoet458
      @christopherpoet458 Год назад

      I am going to stand to disagree.
      You probably could, but you can't just be sitting around doing nothing. What it does do it is incentivizes the player to be focused on some measure of continued growth of their civilization. Games like the Civ series give you a bit of a pass because you can turtle up and lock yourself into a state of contentment to go in for bigger punches later, but those are also games with a larger focus on military expansion and not really all that focused on the civilization itself. In Civ you can almost become an inactive player and just wait things out. This won't let you get away with that and I think that is very much needed for its objective of play style.
      That said, there will still probably be ways that you can prepare yourself for better strides in the later parts of the game. But those actions still require you to be an active player. Rather than reactive or idle.

    One thing that is not really reflected well in some of these world games is scarcity of resources. Lack of resources often led to wars and migration. This could adversely effect the prosperity of your civilization more than anything.

    • @TheGoreforce
      @TheGoreforce Год назад

      you litterally don't have the resource if you don't get it by means of trade, or means of production, with out it you wouldn't be able to make good buildings, special buildings, or equipment for your military. You can easily have more men, and not enough weapons to make your armies and lose because you where not prepared due to the scarcity of resources. Therefore ransacking supplies becomes a thing in this game. See the iron node, and destroy it, no more iron tech units.

    based off this video i think the problem is that the game will play itself too often only giving a single player an optimal choice. As they said migration is natural and not controlled by the player. While realistically it makes sense, in function it might take away control from the player. Same with resources you don't really have to play around resources in civ 6 but that's what makes its it fun you can play around anything you want. I feel like ara is going to force players to play around their surroundings too hard instead of letting them do what they want.

    • @christopherpoet458
      @christopherpoet458 Год назад

      Based on the presentation, that appears to be intentional, not a mistake.
      If the goal of this game is to share qualities of games like the Civ series but also give the game a deeper feel of simulation in the management of a civilizations growth, this is how it is done. You have to work with what you have. You can't conjure materials that do not exist in the area around you. This is how civilizations started in the past. Secondly, this does not appear to be aiming for the same play style that you are referencing. Actions will have restrictions and consequences, which is more than I can say for most Civilization based games I have come across. And third, you appear to have misunderstood the section of the video about migration. It is a natural thing with no direct or immediate control, yes. But you DO have ways to affect it. Aspects of your civilization that you can make desirable by comparison to others that boost or improve your rate of immigration. There may not be a hard number you are affecting, but that does not mean it is outside of your influence.

Gee, can't you think of anyone else in Greek history maybe worthy of leading them? So, woke alert; that'd be like having the US led by Dylan Mulvaney. Perhaps leadership is just a reflection of your goals, Sappho becomes your leader if you choose expression, but maybe you get Alexander if you take Greece down the military path.
