you can see right here how he and Chick Corea would have such an affinity for playing together. just saw them performing duets and it was unbelieveable.

It makes me sad how most non percussionists never give this instrument its full recognition...this truly is a beautiful instrument and should be recognized for what it really is especially since the very famous jazz vibraphonists Gary Burton and Lionel Hampton played this instrument.

Just finishing up his autobiography. A must read for anyone considering a career in music, even a Jazz Violinist. Not practicing, not learning scales, learning by playing. He had excellent instruction. His first teacher had Gary making up his own Intros and Interludes, and always playing in front of people. Good advice.

Wow, this is Burton Grip at it's finest. His height, and effectively his hand position, help explain why Burton Grip is the optimal grip.
This video helps me grasp his style from when he was younger.
To understand that he has refined his playing into who he is now from what you see in this video is absolutely fascinating and remarkable!

  • @danieljanca

It does but I wouldn't regard that being off tempo. You wouldn't find many recordings that match with a metronome for more than 30 seconds, I guess even those that you refer to as having a steady tempo don't.

Even if you hold a metronome up to it and it gets off, you still can at least feel the beat within. It is not like it is not at a steady tempo but it isn't perfect either.
