I just saw this same recipe on Emmymade's yt channel today, too. I find it interesting that she ate the tuna salad on crackers, so that provided the crunch and salt like your potato chips did. She also said the peas and corn were kinda weird, but was super excited about the fried jalapeños. Thanks for your take on it.
I love different restaurants and local spots and holes in the wall. So when I took a job in Austin in 2000, I was happy to see that American Airlines magazine (remember when planes had magazines?) had an interview with Matthew McConaughey about his favorite things in Austin. I read the article, excited to get to the part where he talks about the best restaurants in Austin…and he says “yeah there are good places in Austin, but for me nothing beats Sonic.” And that was all he said. I still haven’t forgiven him.
How did you like The Den Barry?? I was gutted that I was out of town for your big Chicago gig, but that venue is amazing in my opinion... such a great addition to the city!
I first heard about this very recently from Emmymade's channel. But, she made it into a salad and not a sandwich. I'd much rather eat it as a sandwich and will be trying it soon myself.
this seems like the main conflict of interest here if the fried chiles are supposed to be crispy. but i imagine they probably do start thawing fast which also chills the salad faster if desired, which seems nice to me. i imagine i wouldn't be offended by a /slightly/ icy pea. less than i tend to be with a fully room temperature tuna salad.
@@laurameisenhelter9186 McConoughey says that the salad is better the next day so I imagine that leaving the salad in the fridge overnight to marinate will unfreeze the peas
I will assume those frozen peas were thawed first, lol. This doesn't sound bad... I have a chicken salad recipe with avocado, dill, and corn, and it's super tasty. Saw the email today with the new tour dates.... and DC is on there!! So excited. I should be able to make it.
Hey Barry! Looks like Matt M. ate at a Polish/Ukrainian restaurant, ordered one of their cold vegetable salads w/meat or fish, put it on the basket of provided bread, and decided it was a sandwich. Nothing wrong with that at all!
My mom makes the best tuna salad Ingredients: 2 pouches of tuna. 12 hard-boiled eggs. 1 1/2 a jar of khosher dill rellish. 1 1/2 a teaspoon of red pepper flakes. 2 tablespoons of brown or dijon mustard. 1 1/4 teaspoon of salt. 1 teaspoon of black pepper. 1 bottle of zesty italian dressing, or 3 heaping dollops of Miracle Whip. 1 tablespoon of fresh crushed garlic. 1 teaspoon of grated red onion. 1 1/4 tablespoons of parsley. Instructions: Hard boil a dozen eggs, cool and peel them, add them to a large bowl or container, and mash them. Next, add 2 pouches of tuna. Next, add 1 1/2 of a jar of rellish, 2 tablespoons of brown or dijon mustard, and 1 bottle of zesty italian dressing. (You could also sustitute 3 dollops of Miracle Whip or sandwich spread, but zesty italian just tastes better.) Time for the seasonings. First, add 1 tablespoon of crushed garlic, then 1 teaspoon of grated red onion, a teaspoon of black pepper, 1/2 a teaspoon of salt, 1/2 a teaspoon of red pepper flakes, and lastly 1/4 a tablespoon of parsley. Now sturr and fold this until evenly mixed, cover it, and chill it for a few hours, (2 to 3 is best,) and it's ready.
Your Canadian multiverse version, Sandwich Dad, made the budget version on his channel using some tuna from a can that I suspect was sourced from a bomb shelter's pantry! My memories from carnivore days are full of tuna sunshine! I would proudly say in mixed company "I loved my mom's tuna!" with only the merest hint of smirk! It was for years the only thing to get at Subway, wherein I always dressed the sandwich with Ruffles Sour Cream & Onion chips.

Thx for the video I enjoyed it even though it wasn't about some really old sandwich , having said that sticking to the same tuna sandwich's been making since leaving home at 16 , bread tuna mayo , it's food an tastes ok , at times add mustard for some kick an chopped up pickle think even a chopped up date once but face it a basic tuna sandwich will put a smile on your face at lunchtime , Matt's sandwich well he can keep it and hope he doesn't give up his day job because he won't get another working a lunch counter 🙂
Yeah, nah man, ain't my bag dude.I'm pretty much a purist when it comes to tuna salad-celery pickles and mayo. And Barry,I don't think ANYONE knows where you're headed with plus ups.Sumthin new every time!
Hello bro, greetings from Malaysia, 🇲🇾 ❤ 🇺🇸. and the name of gua ammar or mr. amsyar, use my mother's cell phone. hehehe, yes. btw bro, can I make a request for you that is ( make car paninic from family guy ) .
Thought for sure the plus up would be Barry taking off his shirt and smoking a joint.
Bongos!
It would make the sandwich taste better.
Be a lot cooler if he did lol
😂
Epic comment!
This sandwich is alright alright alright
Hey, watch the leather, man.
My grandmother made tuna salad with crushed pineapple and finely diced apple. It had raw bell pepper for crunch.
I believe he uses jalapeño chips in his version
I regularly add horseradish to tuna salad, but never thought about wasabi, or the other stuff. Sounds good!
Not much different then: most "wasabi" are usually just dyed horseradish. The real deal is quite expensive and can be hard to come by outside Japan.
I have never added horseradish to tuna before and now I must try this.

my mom used to make tuna salad with green peas and cubed cheddar cheese! it was great!
I’m confused…do you defrost the frozen peas or are they just little hard frozen chunks you have to bite into?
I thought it was supposed to set for a while, let the flavors blend together. But maybe not.
Frozen peas aren't that bad and they basically defrost instantly in your mouth
yes
they're supposed to be mixed frozen, but probably defrost pretty fast so they're not frozen solid when you eat them

As soon as I saw this making the rounds I looked forward to your version! Looks great.
I guessed potato chips for the plus up! I'm going to play the lottery!
the SANDWICH lottery

Don’t sleep on Tostitos with a tuna sandwich. They pair so well together.
My mom always made her tuna salad with diced celery.
My wife taught me tuna apple - peeled chopped apples, tuna, mayo. It's simple, but it's really tasty.
Pickly pop with Wooderson, babycakes! I get older, the sandwiches stay the same age!
Everybody's dogging Matt for this tuna salad... but I'd eat it.
It looks delicious to me.
Dude puts corn in it. 😂😂😂
Super grateful you've brought this to life ✌
1:53 “Tuna Sandwich Salad” Alright, alright, alright. 😅❤
Just came home from watching Interstellar on IMAX to this. The universe must be telling me to make this.

seems like better eaten as a salad rather than as a sandwich. Definitely add the crispy jalapenos at the last second
Yeah, I thought it would be better filled into a tomato over lettuce.
I put Wasabi/horseradish in my tuna sandwiches too. It's a delight
Thank you for covering this. Maybe a little bit of cheese as well?
Love the chippy plus-up!
This feels like it needs a remix. Or five
the best part of this sandwich is that no matter how old you get the score will stay the same
I legit believed you were friends with matthew McConaughey for a second, wouldn't surprise me for a second really considering the past guests
Nate Bargatze was randomly next up in my suggestions, so now wondering about his sandwiches.

I could have sworn he had chips in his recipe. And he let it sit overnight. Some crazy tuna salad
Pickled jalapenos are my go to for tuna salad. Even some of the hot carrots (zanahorias) are tasty, too!
Frozen peas...like little rocks yum.
I was expecting a prickly pop!
Excellent sammy from MacConaughey!
The plus up is Wise! (Pun intended)
I think he meant crushed jalapeño potato chips, and also said to let it sit overnight
Almost like a tuna casserole in a sandwich.
The only tuna salad I have ever considred trying.
guisantes no
maíz si
Corn and peas plus agave no 😮. The rest sounds legit.

But was there a pickley pop?
I like the idea of fried jalapenos, but probably just use jalapeno potato chips. Also know agave and no corn/peas. Using the apples for sweetness
Was that a hint that in the crisps, sorry, chips will be back in action? Or just need to get rid of some chips before they go soggy?

Glad to see a critical review of this!
I get older but the sandwiches stay the same age. Alright, alright alright!
Mathew Mconaughey: please make my sandwich.
Sandwich Guy: Meh.

I’d definitely eat that .
Sub out the fried jalapeños for jalapeño kettle chips
You forgot all the extra salt GO DAWGS!
But without peas AND corn, it doesn't have succotash!
"Jah Lah Peno" Potato chips instead of fried "Ha La Peinyo" next time
alright sandwich alright sandwich alrightttt sandwichhhhhh
I thought he called for jalapeno potato chips to begin with?
You forgot the nacho chips
You forgot the italian dressing.
Man should’ve added a hard boiled egg.
Leave it in the fridge overnight before putting it on a sandwich.
Crisps on a sandwich? You closet Brit! Prawn Cocktail work best for me. Also, ever done a Chip Butty?

NOpe
Like McConaughy, it's fishy , oily and should never have been allowed out of the can.
you're mean't to defrost the peas!!!!! unless you want stomach ache or broken teeth.
Hmm - the original seems a bit of a mess. Bit too many bits and bobs. Also...peas in a sandwich???
